Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area is located at No. 1 Longjing Road, Xihu District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is divided into Hubin District, Lake Center District, Beishan District, Nanshan District and Qiantang District, with a total area of 59.04 square kilometers, of which the lake surface is 6.38 square kilometers. The outer protected area covers an area of 35.64 square kilometers.
There are 122 main attractions in Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area, including: 26 special-level attractions, 25 first-level attractions, 39 second-level attractions, 21 third-level attractions, and 11 fourth-level attractions; there are 5 national key cultural relics protection units, provincial There are 35 national-level cultural relics protection units, 25 municipal-level cultural relics protection units, 39 cultural relics protection sites and various special museums dotted among them.
In 1985, Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area was selected as one of the "Top Ten Scenic Areas in the Country". In 2006, Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area was included in China's World Cultural Heritage Tentative List. In 2007, Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area was rated as a "National AAAAA Tourist Attraction". Li Shengjiao, a representative figure of Chinese traditional culture, once left a famous poem "Picking Mulberries: Four Odes of the West Lake" to describe the beautiful scenery of West Lake in Hangzhou throughout the four seasons. On June 24, 2011, at the 35th World Heritage Conference held in Paris, France, the cultural landscape of Hangzhou West Lake was included in the World Heritage List.
From January 1 to March 31, 2023, the West Lake Scenic Area will implement a free first ticket policy.
