I used low assists for ages, drove like a drunk when I turned them off, so always turned them back on. Finally decided to turn them off and leave them off, learned how to drive properly. I'm so much faster now. Great advice for anyone starting to play... turn all assists off ASAP

Great video, ME. I recently kicked the Low Steering security blanket I’ve held onto for years, and you touched on how I did it - pick a track and learn to run it without ever touching the brakes. In my case, I run the 9-lap race at Monza a lot to farm M$. That race is so easy to win that I started challenging myself to run it with no brakes. I didn’t learn braking points; I learned “coasting” points...points where I let up on the gas to coast optimally into the chicanes and corners without having to brake. That taught me two things: (1) How to drive with no assists, and (2) how to approach a corner properly and exit it with speed. THAT is the secret to this game - come into a corner in control and leave it with speed. Granted, learning to do that is much easier with a Formula 1 car, but the same principle applies no matter what car you’re driving. I learned to drive that way at Monza with no assists and sensitivity 3, and now I just leave it there no matter what or where I’m driving. The big test was the recent Bugatti Divo event, and I won that event with no assists and sensitivity 3. It’s a great feeling to be able to drive with no assists, and it’s well worth the effort it takes to get there. You were my inspiration; consider me a success story in your efforts to teach others how to play this game. 👏

I really like hearing from you Larry. I really like that my videos have helped you. You are a testament to the fact that age doesn’t really matter in this game. People a lot younger than you complain that it’s too hard due to reaction times at older ages. In fact I think I was using that excuse when I was in my early 40s! 😂. But then there’s Larry, tackling and learning no assist driving in the retirement years. You make a fabulous point. You find speed out of the corner by approaching the corners carefully and in a calculated manner. Too many people plough to the corners fast and then can’t understand why they’re so slow on the next straight section. I think racing is almost entirely about the corners. It’s pretty easy to drive in a straight line. Thanks for your input and support Larry, I greatly appreciate it!

I used to use low steering assist and no others when i started getting better at the game. Learning the breaking points with it. Braking a little bit earlyer than the assist would. I was getting pretty good times. But the second i turned off all assist i was so much faster. The main reason was just be cause any assist wont let the car accelerate when your on the edge of grip. Now that i can do it it makes cornering way easyer as if i slide i can just power out of it.

Yup, that’s exactly what I found too. It’s hard to notice on a corner here in a corner there. However by the time you get to the end of the lap it all adds up and makes a big difference. Thanks for the input!

Oh boy. Thanks a tons for this video. I've been playing rr3 for 3 months and I started to turn off the braking assist and wow. I can't believe that I performed so good and so fast in every race like I don't need any guides rn. I'm starting to find the braking points of every single car and track. But I can't turn off the traction idk why but I'm just scared turning it off but braking assists is now pretty useless for me. I can now take cuts so good. Thanks for your videos man.

You’re welcome! Glad it helped. Interesting thing about traction control is that it pretty much only comes on when you lose traction. However it’s probably slowing you down a bit off track. When I was first learning no assists I would wait until I was far in the lead in some cup race, pause the race and turn off assists. Then if I got in trouble I would just turn them back on until I had the lead again.

Hey ME7, great video! Note on traction control... What I've noticed it does (since I stupidly used it for way too long) is it won't let you hit the gas if (how do I say this?)... you're breaking into a corner and you think it's time for the gas but if you press the pedal and it would cause you to loose control it won't "activate" right away (not until you are actually on a correct trajectory). When I first got off the assists (again, thanks for your inspiration) I noticed this on the F1 cars especially. GREAT VIDEO! #GetOffTheAssists (LOL!) OH! That time trial position (244 I think it was), thank you! I know you have a video but I wanted to show someone your AMAZING cars and there's no better way than going to a time trial and selecting "view cars". What a coincidence! I was looking for you in the weekly time trial but I gave up, LOL. You are an artist! Take care, -Eric 🏁🏎️

There's a Speed Snap event in "Lions of Leipzig" (either in Stage 4 or 5) that I just couldn't win because the brakes are being applied at the exit of the chicane (low brake assist). Had to turn it off, fail a couple of more times while trying to learn to drive without brake assist, and eventually I got 1st place. 99.9% of the time, I'm still on high steering assist + low brake assist and traction control off, though. But I will try to apply some of the knowledge that I got from this video. Thanks, ME7.
@ME7_RR3
@ME7_RR3 3 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome. The trick you mentioned can actually be used a lot. There are many shallow corners in the game where brake assist will turn on when you don’t need it. I used to pause the game, turn it off, drive through the section, pause the game, turn it on again. I eventually got so sick of doing that though, it was a big reason why I finally learned to race without assistance. I was trying to huge currency in the 10 lap Le Mans race but then I kept wasting time by turning assist off. Anyhow, it is still a great method to use when you’re trying to win cars or are in more currency in time trials. Thanks for sharing! 😎👍

Great video. Used 'B' and full assists for first week until the traction control kept engaging crossing the bricks on Indianapolis. Immediately went zero assists. Play with sensitivity at '0', but found on the tight courses like Monaco and Berlin that that '2' adds just enough turn in on the phone I use.

That’s a good point, increasing steering sensitivity for certain tracks. I ended up doing that at Monaco as well, after several people suggested I should. Being an actual driver with a lot of enthusiasm for it, I disabled all assists there is knowing it'd somehow slow me. Then turned on low brake assists since I needed some track familiarity, thanks to practice and this video, I turned it off back. I like RR3s controls as far as a mobile game can go, It definitely has the feeling for different engine/drive layouts, even the great subtle differences between same layouts, feeling of limited differantials etc. However, it lefts me desired of a staged gas pedal at least. Best to do in an RWD is to brake before the turn, coast through the corner, hit the gas as soon as you are about to exit. If you somewhat need some speed inside the turn, it lefts you desire to give a little taps to the gas, which may sent the car off-balance, especially with BMWs being very tail happy. Staged brakes are not much of a hassle for me but would be nice.
@ME7_RR3
@ME7_RR3 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, great comment! I agree with everything you said. I’ve tried some other mobile games but I find the handling or lack of it frustrating. I’ve play games where no matter what you do the back and won’t spin loose, that’s just not real. Of course you don’t want your rear ange to spend loose but I’d rather have that then just have my speed go down without any visual indication of the mistake. Staged pedals would be interesting. I don’t think they could add it to this game, would probably have to be done from scratch. It’s very interesting though.

Amazing video! As an experienced player, I find that driving without assists really does make you faster! 👍 I used to have all assists set to high with Tilt A controls for the first half of Pure Stock Challenge, and started lowering them as I progressed through the series. When I advanced to my next series, I started driving with all assists off and using Tilt B. It took me roughly less than a week to do this after just starting the game! Switching to no assists depends on your experience with these types of racing games. If you are familiar with, or an expert in, simcade or simulation racing games, this should definitely be an easy transition! 😁 Then, another reason to learn this type of driving is that there are also achievements in the game for driving without these assists, which reward extra gold for completing/winning up to 100 races without these assists. With that in mind, we should all be taking advantage of these achievements if not yet earned (I have already completed them)! 🏅

I kept on running for a very long time with tilt B - Sensitivity 2 - All assists off except Steering. I had almost made my mind that I will never be able to get rid of steering assists. One day I saw ME7 not using horizon tilt , turned it off finally after 2 years I felt comfortable with steering assists off. After that I focused on driving on tracks that are difficult using cars with low grip , focused on not to go off track and not to take damage. I was slow , always used to take early braking points , never won initially but for the first time felt some sense of achievement. This video indeed is helpful , you can't force yourself to become assist free in a day it's a gradual process for some journey is short for some it's long . But it is totally worth the effort.

Hello Michael, great to hear from you. This is a really long answer and I hope you don’t mind. I really can’t answer a question like this in a short way because I would be doing it an injustice. Also, I really appreciate your support and comments so I’m giving you the best answer I can. I could honestly do a one hour plus video on some thing like this but it just gets so difficult sometimes to figure out how to demonstrated, talk about it, edit it. Anyhow, let’s get into this: As far as feathering the throttle, I know exactly what you’re talking about. When I was a tilt A driver I used to feather the brakes through the corners. So then when I switched to Tilt B I ended up feathering the throttle a lot. However then I noticed that the faster drivers didn’t do that. So the trick is to find a place where you can go full throttle and keep it that way. The sooner you can go full throttle the better. If you’re feathering a lot in the corner it implies that you don’t feel like you can go full throttle yet. I would argue that you were braking too late or getting back to the throttle too early. However another factor is that you might not have the optimal trajectory through the corner. I’ve got an over simplified reference I heard once from NASCAR of all places. There’s a particular track where Kevin Harvick substantially outpaces the competition. It’s because there are some bigger parable type corners and he would brake early, coast for part of the corner and then get back to the throttle earlier than anyone else could do. Even though everyone else has access to his in car camera, they simply couldn’t match what he was doing. Darrell Waltrip said something so interesting and so simple. Brake and get your steering done early, then accelerate out of the corner. But that’s exactly yet. Get your steering done as you’re approaching the centre of the corner. Then you want to be able to straighten out that steering as you hammer down the throttle. You can have the perfect braking point but if you have the wrong trajectory it won’t matter. That is the one downside I found of a lot of braking point videos, they just show you when brakes go on, they don’t tell you that your car has to be exactly where their car is on the track, exact speed, exact angle, exact left to right orientation. The best thing you can do with braking point videos is use them as a reference. I would get on the brakes a little bit earlier than you see in braking point videos and then drive it in deeper and deeper each subsequent try. Lastly and probably the most important, give yourself permission to fail. I probably should’ve started with that! Give yourself permission to crash way more than you succeed. That’s the way it is in real life. People who win have actually lost more than a lot of other people. They just don’t let the losses intimidate them or defeat them. By the time you see a time trial Video from me, I have failed at the first corner probably a minimum of 50 times. And then I fail at the 2nd corner, then the 3rd corner… And so on. There’s no way you can replace the need for individual trial and error. A beautiful part of this game is that you can race peoples ghosts. The downside is of course the hacking. Honestly though, there aren’t that many hackers in the big picture. I’m saying this because you can pick some people to race against and learn a lot just from being near someone’s ghost. Just the other day a fellow asked me to place a time in the Porsche 919 Evo time trial at Le Mans. I started following his ghost. He was beating me by 0.4 seconds at the first chicane, and he had a car with less upgrades. It took me about 15 minutes of experiments to find out how hard I could push the car through that first section. I found that my braking point was wrong because my trajectory was wrong. Soon I was exiting the corner with a 0.3 second gain which means I improved by 0.7 seconds at the very first section. On a track that big you can imagine how much of a difference that makes!! What I learned from corner one I instantly applied to the rest of the track. That is that I could drive it deeper than I thought and that I would need to pay very careful attention to my trajectory. In a monster like the Porsche 919 hybrid Evo you have to get back to the gas as soon as possible. Mind you, that really is true for every car. 100th of a second delay getting back to the throttle can end up costing you tenths at the end of that next straight. I hope all that helps you. All the best to you out there on the track!

That’s still frightens me. I’ve tried at some times but I really prefer the ability to correct my skin so quickly with tilt B. I’ve noticed there are several top time trial drivers who use tilt A. It is a really good setting for endless endurance race is because you can relax your hands and wrists more so. If I’m doing the Ferrari FXX K at Porsche Short then I use that setting quite a lot. But for the monster MP4-X I still like Tilt B. Maybe someday I will feel that I’ve mastered that race enough that I can actually switch to tilt A. 😃

@@ME7_RR3 Trust me It's not that hard. Sounds scary and takes some time getting used to it. It forces you to be a better driver who thinks on and focuses how to take the corner correctly, not how to react when you take it incorrectly. I also heavily recommend using your left hand for braking just as you do in tilt B. Once you learn to do it it feels the same as turning more assists off and it even improves your tilt B driving. It makes the most difference on the mp4/x because it has so much acceleration and braking thus is the most sensitive to end of braking and start of acceleration points and It practically saves time on lemans endurance shortcuts. You won't regret it at all

Even after seeing your video I am not convinced SA off is better than SA on low or high ( for brakes and traction control I agree with you ) when you running mostly on track. ( when I need to use the car as a lawnmower I switch indeed to SA off and move my SS up to 5 or 6 instead of my usual 2/3 ). But this is maybe also because I use an iPad. With SA off I need to tilt the tablet a lot more to take corners correctly which doesn’t feel comfortable. For this one: after 2 cycles I was at position #35 of the GLB with some room for improvement. So I am happy with my SA at low in TT's and “normal” racing.

Which makes testing and comparing very difficult.

EDIT: this is a very long reply… I didn’t mean it to be but I guess I just got talking. I’ll just say now that I appreciate your input and enjoy your comments. 👍 What you said is totally true. For instance, I am a complete and utter joke if I use wheel B controls. However I’ve got a friend who is absolutely amazing using that setting and can substantially outpace me. Until I saw him racing I would’ve never believed it was possible! However he post videos on Facebook and it’s right up there with the top guys. He is “Nik K” in the game. If you check out the shock and awe series for the Volkswagen he currently has the number one time in both time trials! 😲 I actually don’t think that no assists is better than steering assist low for time trials. In fact some people are incredible with steering assist high. Go back a few years ago when Radutan and Zimfrank we’re at the top of the charts every week. ZimFrank was almost always in the top 5 and I know for a fact that he used steering assist high the majority of the time. All that was to say that in some situations it’s what you’re most comfortable with. So I am agreeing with your point, it’s basically whatever you’ve mastered I think. However a lot of people want to reach that no assist status I guess. So that was the point of this video, teaching people how they could get there if they really want to. I personally find that all steering Assists alter the car a bit in a way that I don’t like. If I used steering assist low enough I’m sure I would adjust to the parts that I don’t like. However I also don’t like how it affects my off-track driving in a pretty negative factor. I am the kind of guy that would like to have one way of doing things for the majority of the time. So that way there are no surprises for me when I jump into a time trial Competition. Sometimes I want to to spin around and drive backwards for a while, sometimes I want to spin donuts for a while or do different types of nonsense. No assists gives me the freedom to do what I want, to when I want to. That doesn’t mean that it is the one right way of driving. In fact one of the things I hate the most about this game is when people say there’s a right or wrong way to play it. I’ve had a decent amount of angry messages and even hateful messages because I drive off track sometimes. I find it downright hilarious because the option is, go spend actual money on this game. I show people ways to earn massive currency in endurance races and they get mad that I’m off track without getting the point. I don’t really have time for most of it anymore. I spent a lot of time trying to help people understand but I think a lot of them just don’t want to. I was honestly surprised when the developer started putting my videos showing this right in the game. Since they are the creators of this game, they determine what is right and wrong. Yet the silly people still want to be silly! So yeah man, race how you want race and enjoy the game the way you want to enjoy it. Don’t let anyone tell you that your way is wrong or that you’re not good enough. We have too much of that on the world right now.

hey man i just wanna get your thoughts on a setting i use. Tilt B, Assists (LOW), Traction (LOW) and sensitivity (4).
@ME7_RR3
@ME7_RR3 2 жыл бұрын
Any setting will work but they will definitely limit your abilities. Traction doesn’t have a low setting so I’m guessing you mean on. Then you said assist low, I’m guessing you have both steering and brakes on low. Brakes on low isn’t horrible but it actually will still put the brakes on sometimes when you don’t need them which means you’re giving up time. Also, they almost always come on too late. that’s why you end up thinking you need traction. Brakes low is OK as a safety net while you are transitioning but you really should get used to putting on the brakes yourself. At Hockenheimring brake assist low will come on three times when you don’t need it in cars that have better grip. Steering assist Lowe is fine unless you ever want to go off track on purpose. I still find it limits me in just a couple of places on a couple of tracks but that’s not a big deal. Sensitivity 4 should be great. I think it’s a good balance.

I think it’s worth the time to get a better experience out of the game. It’s a good idea to experiment with your steering sensitivity as that can really affect things. I’d say start on 5. If it feels like you’re working too hard to turn the car in the corners then move it up by 2 to 7. But if you’re over steering then you should drop it by 1 or 2. I generally recommend that you only change the setting by a maximum of 2 and try it out for a bit. IMPORTANT: make sure you calibrate it once you pick a setting. Honestly, I would start with Tilt B and get used to using gas and brakes. The calibration button is right there when you’re looking at the control options. Good luck and happy Racing 😎👍

Lower sensitivity can make you faster but 0 might be too much. 0 is too much for me in most cars. I only use it for open wheel cars that are pre-2019 like the McLaren MP4-X, MP4/4 and some others. My standard setting is 2 and has been for a while. However 5 years ago it was 10! I noticed a lot of the top Drivers used low sensitivity so I slowly started to lower it. Funny thing is, I need to run sensitivity 1 for pretty well all Aston Martin’s. Sensitivity 2 is just a little bit too twitchy for me and I find that I lose the car in corners, the back end will step out easier. So that’s where you might find more speed is coming out of the corners. I find it’s good to do really minor setting changes because then the learning curve isn’t too bad.

Steering assist low shouldn’t hurt you unless you want to drive off track. If you ever do want to try turning it off, the first thing you do is go over into steering sensitivity and increase that by 2 or 3 notches. That will help to make up for the missing input. Brake assist low certainly hurts you as it brakes too late. You could leave it on as sort of a safety net and start applying the brakes earlier. I still don’t like it though because it will come on sometimes when you shouldn’t have it on at all.

It might be that you just have to brake a little bit earlier unless it is random and unpredictable. In general people do tend to break too late if they’re used to assists. Brake assist Low will generally brake too late, then traction control kicks in and it’s all lost time. Raking earlier is good if you can find the balance.

In some tracks it’s actually not too bad but on other tracks it will really hurt your time. COTA is a great example of a bad track for steering assist. It wants you to take a very precise line through the sharp corners and it’s just the wrong line. It also has a small amount of traction control in it which can eat up some time on certain corners. The easiest way to get used to no steering assist is to increase your steering sensitivity by 3. So if you currently run sensitivity 3 when you have your assist on high, turn it up to 6 when you turn off the assist. Most people find that it will make up the difference. Then as you get more comfortable to that steering setting you could slowly lower that. You don’t have to but usually a lower steering sensitivity will allow you to be a little bit faster in the corners as it won’t be as abrupt or jerky.
