Driven: This 502HP Superformance Shelby Cobra MkIII Only Weighs 2,400 Pounds!

Superformance builds immaculate modern chassis for Shelby-authorized Cobra replicas and the buyer of this one decided to drop in a 351ci V8 stroked to 392ci. In a tiny roadster that only weighs around 2,400 pounds, the powerplant sends an ungodly 502 dyno-proven crank horsepower to the rear wheels.
After providing many of the cars seen on screen in Ford v Ferrari, Superformance witnessed a resurgence in popularity among a new generation of Cobra fans. But HotCars contributor Michael Van Runkle drives this MkIII Cobra, originally built way back in 2002, and discovers the magic that made Carroll Shelby a household name after he took Cobras, Daytona Coupes, and GT40s to Le Mans. Engine roaring, side pipes screaming, and wind-in-your-hair motoring never looked so good.

What a MACHINE ‼️😳😆 Gad you got a chance to drive one. I'm 52 now and remember this car quite well back in 1975... I was hooked instantly. At 5 yrs old in '75 it had a profound effect on me as I got hooked on Ford Mustangs too. I can imagine the feels... that sound is amazing ‼️

was at the houston autorama this past turkey day wknd. talked to a guy with a superformance cobra. very nice! I can't blame this guy for his giddiness. mine is gun metal blue/gray color. they are a lot of fun.

You keep driving my dream cars. I love Dinos and Cobras. I almost bought one of these in 2017. Prices have doubled since then so I probably won’t be getting one. It doesn’t help that I am in central Texas. It was 111 degrees today so a Cobra would be like a convection oven. I almost bought an original Cobra 427 in the late 70’s in Houston. It was $5000. It looked great but the exhaust system was rotted out. So I didn’t buy it. I was young and poor and I didn’t have the money to throw at a car like that. Beautiful car though. Silver with no stripes or side pipes. Probably for the best as the way I drove in those days I likely would have died in that car.

When i first picked mine up the wife was following me in my duramax 2500, i went to shift into second hit the brake and killed it. Looked n rearview and all i saw was that big gold bowtie coming at me, she missed assholing me by about 3 feet…All within view of the old owner.

Would be so cool to see a blown yellow 57 Chevy pull up at the light and look over. Watch COBRA HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS and see that very scenario play out. 😁

omg that sound though. congrats man. That's a hell of an achievement for a gearhead. I think they should just change the national anthem to that exhaust noise. Nothing is more patriotic.

A TVR Griffiths 5.0 weighs about the same has 320 bhp and 0-60 mph comes up in 4.1 sec. It will spin the rear wheels in any gear. Is this really any better ?

This has nothing to do with this video but online this guy has a horrible page with false information called 10 ford engines that belong in a junkyard and 5 that will annihilate anything. The 6.0 power stroke does not have to have the cab removed to replace the injectors. They don’t get horrible fuel mileage and most definitely don’t use def fluid. One reason the 6.0 gets such a bad reputation is for people spreading stuff like this that they know nothing about. Also the 2 valve 4.6 5.4 and 6.8 are some of the toughest engines I know of. I have 2 v10s and used to have a 5.4 all high mileage and abused. Basically no issues. They might have a few quirks but people act like a spark plug blowing out makes them junk. It’s a cheap easy fix. Anyway the article isn’t correct on some things and I didn’t see any place to rant there lol
