CHEAP, SCRAP car gets service & I found something BAD!

Work begins then on giving this scrap car I won from a salvage auction.
Firstly, I found something not so good when looking at the engine side of things but the car did get some much needed TLC by carrying out a service and adding a few more bits to the car!

@@Driven247 top tips from what i do know about them, rust is always a huge issue on these cars - behind the bumpers the chassis rails crash bar and that will show huge signs of rust, the rear hatch always has rust behind the plastic number plate holders, take the rear lights out and check for rust inside and behind the rear lights, and they look amazing with the angel eyes head lights , the windscreen is always prone to rust bubbles! And the tappets can always be noisy on these cars until they get a full amount of oil in them.

Good to hear that you've kept the original plates. You can get new plates made as exact copies of the original ones to keep the original look, which will be good for shows.

I bet there aren't many of those left now - Protons were always underrated machines in my opinion. Yeah, these are based on old Mitsubishi models handed on to Malaysia to get their motor industry going, but I remember when the Satria GTI appeared. Now that was a head-turner and a proper hot hatch - I'm not really into those types of cars generally, but I would definitely have one of those in a heartbeat!

No, I think under 10 of these models on the road…I also owned the GTI once briefly too, that’s on my channel a few years back. It’s a shame Protons aren’t worth the money, for example if that’s was an old Honda civic, it would be. A few people saying how reliable these cars should be etc too! Thanks for watching.

Great video You are doing the right thing by taking care of basic services. Be careful with a "coolant flush". A "flush" can expose weak spots in the cooling system. It can create leaks where none existed prior to the "flush". You may want to consider a "drop and fill" for the coolant. Before you spend too much money on the car, put some drive-time on it to make sure that it doesn't have any major problems. Having no oil in the engine is a bit scary. Good luck with the car.

Thank you, he’s always wary of engine “cleaning” though, water and engines don’t mix well sometimes, we recently found that out but said car is ok now…can’t wait to clean it up yes, for sure!

Jon Coupland is looking at buying a Satria on his channel, not as nice as this specimen tho, I'm loving this, especially so in this colour and condition. I'm admittedly a bit odd as I love the whole Proton uk range along with older Skoda Felicias, Favorits, Nissan K10 &K11 micras. So you're stuck with me for this series!😂

Yes, seen his collection. Mines clean, but needs to be cleaned literally, holding the engine scrubs up well too! I recently saw someone else purchase a car same to mine, same mileage, colour, spec, very clean car, want mine to be the same ha ha! Yeah, I like rare odd cars too. You're not alone - I've had a fascination with the older Protons for years. Owned a really nice Wira 1.5 a few years back, and always fancied one of those Satria GTI things to wind up the Fiesta and Corsa fans!

Yeah, tried to flip a car on KZfaq before, as in, honest with how much I paid for car, how it sold and what I made, got a few nasty comments like your not allowed to sell a car for profit etc although loads of KZfaqrs do it! Thanks though Jamie!

Having worked at a few motor factors I managed to get some of the old catalouges etc & also do a bit of cross referances on a certain auction website & get my Fiesta parts dirt cheap

Thank you. Unfortunately I am not sure I can only assume owned by an elderly owner who passed and family got rid of the car…due to the lack of miles suggests not used much and potentially owned by elderly person…would love to know the exact reason! Thanks for watching, more to come shortly!

Really enjoyed the video. Looks like a cracking little car. Few rust spots I spotted around the rear window that need sorting. One question. How big a turbo can you fit in the engine bay? 😁

Thanks Paul, kind words. Yes, few spots of rust on the roof too…solution I reckon, sand roof ones down, then roof wrap? As for rear window rust, assume window out job? Not sure! I assume it wouldn’t just be a turbo, surely more engine mods would be needed? Thanks Paul.

Yes it might of had the oil drained out being ready for scraped you should of noticed the oil light when you started it good job you didn't run it for long I'm sure wat ever it needs for a mot your dad will sort its easy to do the cambelt on it but the exhaust sounds like its blowing I would do the fuel filter and clean the plugs as well before you take it for MOT a little you should haven't many problems hopefully

The reason why people do like Protons l do and l live in Australia and there are a couple of you tubers who have them and l do see a couple of Protons and infact there is a local car yard with a Proton Jumbuck for sale and there are a couple of Proton Jumbucks driving around and that's good that your Proton shares a lot of parts with other vendors as l myself own a 1097 Toyota Hilux and it shares a lot of parts with other vehicles and l have had to get a lot of parts because some of them were 27 years old
