Enjoy an uninterrupted view of the line ahead between Christchurch and Arthurs Pass, with all the viaducts, tunnels and fabulous scenery at 8 x normal speed.

Not sure whether I was watching the train track more than the scenery but when I became conscious of it, the views are magnificent.

Hello Henry, I see Railtrail now offer a tour to New Zealand, the itinerary is the best I've seen, I hope it also includes some places not listed such as the museum at Ferrymead, Christchurch. I'm sure the highlight of the tour will be the Railcarts through the Forgotten World. I have done almost everything included in the tour and I'm sure it will have a wide appeal because apart from some pretty uninspiring tours that really only include KiwiRails Scenic trains it is the most comprehensive itinerary covering both Islands that I've seen to date. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, where are you off to next?

@@Timsvideochannel1 Yes, I saw that tour and it looks good. I'm currently working on a possible to Hungary to visit some of the narrow gauge lines. My next trip is to Iasi in Romania! Looking forward to tram bashing there but closer to home I'm off to the Spa Valley Railway Gala tomorrow!

Hi, your comment is really appreciated, I chose the music because I felt it's beat matched the speed of the train. Having a You Tube channel is generally fun, but there are times when having a thick skin comes in handy.

Hi, I've done the trip 4 times now, the last being in early 2019. As I can't get out to film more trips, I will probably edit and upload a video covering my last trip in the next couple of months. New Zealand is a beautiful country, just a pity it's so far away from my home in the UK.

I was hoping to ride with Dunedin Railways on one of their holiday excursion trains from Dunedin to Picton, sadly the Covid Virus put an end to that. as well as putting the future of Dunedin Railways at risk. +Timsvideochannel1 I recently discovered your channel, and am really enjoying going thru them all. As for the motion sickness, that's just me. When I lie on an exercise mat to do stretches and lifts, I have to close my eyes. If I leave them open, I get motion sickness within minutes. Back in the sixties, I tried a tumbling class in college. I lasted two sessions. That was when I discovered I had the problem. Funny, though, when I travel on board ships, crossed the Atlantic both ways in 2015, one of those on the QM2, that does not bother me! Anyway, keep posting your great videos. One of the things I love about KZfaq is being able to literally see the whole world from right here in my LazyBoy recliner!

Dumb question time. What are those extra inner tracks for on the bridges?
@Timsvideochannel110 ай бұрын
Hi, its not a dumb question, they are there to stop a derailed train from moving all the way over to one side and potentially tipping over, something that would result in a unimaginable tragedy should it occur on one of the railway's lofty viaducts.

NZ trains are 42" gauge, high speed not too likely on this, maybe 75mph?
@Timsvideochannel17 жыл бұрын
In reality our train rarely traveled much faster than 50 mph and than felt pretty fast on the relatively narrow 3ft 6inch (42") gauge line. The slower speeds give plenty of time to enjoy the outstanding New Zealand scenery.

@Kiwigeo Travel by vehicle to me is about getting from A to B, if you want to see the Gorge you can kayak down it or get the Canyon Safari Jet boat, you could also say by train you don't get to see Porters pass as well so I don't really see it as a sales point for travel choice

Why the music? It ruins the video and the fast forwarding
@Timsvideochannel17 жыл бұрын
After a recent high-speed upload where I left the sound as sped up, I think there is a strong case for not adding music. In future, where the sped up soundtrack is OK I am likely to leave it in.

Crikey! All that land and nary a sheep to be seen. The mind boggles as to why.
@Timsvideochannel18 жыл бұрын
+Bill Saltbush Hi Bill, the first part of the trip over is over the Canterbury Plains, here is a description of farming on the plains (click on the link) - www.cpw.org.nz/pdf07/Andrew%20Gillanders%20Perspective%20on%20Farming%20on%20the%20Plains%20FINAL.pdf - After the plains, you are into the mountains, where there are plenty of cows and a few sheep. I think dairy produce is more lucrative these days than sheep farming, hence there are less sheep now than yesteryear.
@BillSaltbush8 жыл бұрын
+Timsvideochannel1 - The comment was very much 'tongue in cheek' Tim. However, given my associations with some of the good folk who live on 'The Plains, the implications of the sentiment behind the comment sometimes appears to be very real. Thanks, must catch up with my old mate Harley R.

I watched this at the produced speed, and then for good measure, watched it again set to 2x the playback speed. What a rush ! I also have to comment on all the crybaby commenters who whined about the music or whined about the speed the video was produced to show. All you whiners should get out there and make a video the way you want it to look, and "show us all how it should be done", and stay off of the comment section, lest ye be judged yourselves. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Yes there were some minor imperfections such as vibration caught on the camera, but it would be there if you were there in person too. Not much you could do. I give it 2 thumbs up, and I fart in the general direction of all the crybabies.

Hi, I have only just come across this comment. Like yourself, I wonder how many of those who write negative comments have ever tried to make and upload a video to You Tube. I speed the film up to reduce the jelly effect caused by the vibration present when the diesel locomotive is working hard. Choosing music is always a problem because we all have different tastes, again I wonder why people don't simply mute the music and play their own selection. Unlike professionals, as an amateur I usually get one chance and I have to make the most of it. Fortunately, You Tube is made a rewarding experience for creators by the number of positive comments. I really appreciate you standing up on behalf creators. Tim.
