I've been driving a Bolt for rideshare for over a year and a half. Regenerative braking is literally one of my favorite features of the car. At first I thought it was nuts too. Now I hate driving a car without it. It's fantastic. Keep trying it. Edit: And I charge my car at home on a level 2 charger. Those same 786 miles you drove would only cost me maybe $21 at my current electric rates and my average efficiency. That money adds up.

@@IndigoBassNotes The charger came with the car and the installation for the plug at my house was covered by my electric company. So free. There are quite a few incentives around for EVs still, just have to look.

@@Driver_Eddie For how I drive in my market, I would be able to get easily 250 miles on a 100% charge. I usually only charge to 90% to save the battery. I rarely drive more than 200 miles in a 8 or 9 hours day. But that's just me. I have the larger Bolt EUV also for reference. I had a regular Bolt before this and that got even slightly better range. For right now, I would never buy an EV if I had to rely on public chargers. Even charging at level 1 (regular 110v outlet) is more appealing than public charging even though it is crazy slow. The cost of public is just not justified.

As bad as Uber rentals are, Lyft is even worse. I've heard Lyft pays you less if you are on the rental program and driving a rental from Hertz. It's something like 17% less pay for fares on Lyft.

I kinda came to the same conclusions you did after looking into rentals, I also realized that you'd probably be better off just financing a car because at least it'd be cheaper and the car would be yours. Renting is something I'd only recommend for short term if you really need a car and have terrible credit

They have different levels of insurance coverage, liability, property damage, etc. I personally think that it’s worth getting just the CDW especially if you’re getting into a Tesla. As long as you’re not letting other people drive and you’re not driving drunk, driving recklessly, you’re basically covered for any damages to the Tesla while you’re in it. I’ve run over low parking curbs and islands because I was rushing or coming out of a steep driveway and bottoming out. I can only imagine what kind of undercarriage/battery cover damage that would do to a Model 3 while doing gig work. Plus you’d be covered if someone hits your car while you’re driving or if it’s vandalized while it’s parked. It’s pretty expensive but trust me, body shop costs are about 3X to 5X more expensive with a Tesla than with a regular gas car. The CDW daily cost is expensive but it’ll give you peace of mind to enjoy the rental while you have it. Plus it’s a complete write off from your earnings. I say go for just the CDW. If you’re not going to take any coverage, make sure you photograph every part of the car’s exterior and interior. Make sure every little scratch or damage is noted on your contract before you drive off. I’ve seen rental agents compare your original contract and charge you for damages when you turn it in even if they were preexisting conditions but weren’t noted on the contract. Regarding credit cards that cover rental cars, I would seriously look at what kind of coverage your card issuer actually provides. I’ll say this much: unless you’re paying an annual fee of several hundred dollars and your card gets you into luxury airport lounges, it’s probably very basic coverage or coverage with a lot of conditions and exclusions. Pretty sure one of the exclusions is using the rental car for gig work/Ridesharing. Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Capital One Venture X. Really appreciate how you break down your earnings and hourly rates. Would be great to estimate what your taxes would be after all the expenses, like if you just took that one week’s earnings and then deductions and estimated taxes. Also would be great if you could talk about how you manage dead miles with apps like Stride etc. Great video, thanks for posting!

Whether to rent or buy is a tough question. When you rent, you have zero maintenance cost. It also doesn't matter how many miles you put on the car. Then you get newer model car. Pushing your car 8,10,12 hrs daily takes a toll on your car. Imagine doing 200-300 miles per day, and not necessarily highway miles, that is some serious abuse of a machine. Also if you're using your own car, your personal insurance is not enough. You pay extra for using the car for uber. Anytime your personal car is in the shop, you're not earning. But it it's a rental, you get another car free of charge. If you put up to 70K miles on your car in one year, you're gonna need new set of tires. That is extra cost. Ultimately though, one has sit down and really crunch the numbers.

With home charging you would've probably spent only 40$ on charging, or even less depending where you live. So like half. Still obviously doesn't offset the time charging, but gets you halfway there. The charging you can also optimize a bit to always be on the fastest part of the curve. E.g. always charge from 5-10% to maximum of around 50-60%. Charge less, more often. Obviously this also doesn't work if you have to drive a lot to the chargers, but when the chargers are enroute, this is the way to get the most energy in the fastest, thus spend the least time charging. Also... Buy a used Model 3 for 20k instead. 😂

If it costs 300 dollars per week to rent a Tesla, why not lease one directly from Tesla. They'll give you a 7500 dollar federal tax credit (granted, they'll claw this back with higher interest rates, and you can't buyout a Tesla lease). Did some rough calculations, you'll probably pay around 20k over the 36 months, which is a lot better than 19k a year renting? Only issue I could see is if Uber doesn't allow this, or you drive significantly over the allotted mileage per year (up to 15000 miles).
