When you shift a Mack transmission pause in neutral and take a drink or a smoke between shifts so you can let the revs fall so you can get into the next gear without scratching it!

Rev to 2100, double clutch, stick 'er in the next gear at 1250 and on up the ladder until you're doin' 67mph. Back down the ladder when you get to the next little hill or headwind, in reverse order. I can still do it in my sleep, and actually did way back when. I had the privilege of driving a 1977 model R tractor pulling a bulk dairy wagon for a couple hundred K miles before I made a career change. My boss didn't believe in power steering, so you almost needed a crow bar to steer it in the tight turns. He also didn't believe in A/C or air ride seats...mercy, what a ride! Wish I could do it again! Thanks for sharing.

@J.R.in_WV4 жыл бұрын
Evan Rivera yes, those 5 speeds have big gaps between the gears, and when climbing a hill a Jake helps the Rpm’s drop a lot faster to get in the next gear before you loose too much speed. For example Instead of 2 seconds for the revs to drop from 2100 rpm back to 1300 when you go to upshift, it only takes about half a second if you have the Jake turned on. Meaning instead of a 2 second delay to get it from 2nd into 3rd you can slide it in immediately and keep accelerating.

So it is a twin stick 15 speed?
@J.R.in_WV4 жыл бұрын
No, it is 2 sticks but it’s called a 6 speed low hole. you only use the second stick when you’re in first gear on the main trans. Basically your main stick is 1-5, and the aux has reverse, lo and direct. You can only use lo in 1st on the main so you start out in lo first, shift the aux to direct first then you just use 1 stick from then on.

@vkuscak4 жыл бұрын
revving up high isn't the problem, sticking in the gear before the rpms drop to the sweet spot is, at least this is what I've learned in ATS driving a non sync lol.
@19crazydude3 жыл бұрын
@@vkuscak as you let off the throttle, gently keep pressure on the shifter. It'll come out when it's right. Move it to next position, gently very gently apply slight pressure and when the rpms are right, it should fall in. May need a little tap on the throttle when it gets close so the rpms don't fall too fast. Lower rpms make an easier shift.

Dude you are grinding every single gear becuase you are shifting way too early. You have to wait for your rpms to come down. You probably trying to use the clutch too. Your not a trucker are ya?
