On Wednesday I was at the salon in the midst of a windstorm in Cheyenne. Around 11 am, the windspeed was varying between 60-70 mph, but with gusts up to 80-90 mph. At one point, it was howling, the sound of it almost human. All work stopped as we listened to the screaming howl and watched the overhead lamp post outside bend and bounce. It was crazy scary. One lady said "God be with the truckers out there." And then everyone said the same thing. It was the kind of shared moment that happens so rarely. Unforgettable. So glad to know that you are safe and sound Mike! Please have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year with your family and know that we appreciate what you do! For those who are not familiar with this area, Cheyenne sits at the nexus of two major interstates, I-80 and I-25, and we love our trucks cause we have lots and lots of them. At times, they are literally our lifeline to the rest of civilization. WY is basically a rural state, so trucks form our supply line about 90%, especially during the winter. The risks truckers take to keep that supply line going are priceless!

We get so windstorms hear in southern much less than that. A few trucks usually get blown over on the highway. When there are windstorms I see people in cars driving along side the trucks and just stay there. Truckers tell me that is the most dangerous place to be. Yet they get along side a truck and their brains turn to jelly and they just stay there. One place I don't want to be is passing a truck when there is a hill, we the truck passes the hill it will get slammed with the full force of the wind.

I had a same experience when I was working for Swift Transportation the time. The wind blew harder than 55mph while hauling a heavy load heading to Utah from Nebraska, my experience is that I drove during the hard wind blowing to unable to maintain on the same lane that, I'd suppose to be on because I didn't check the weather forecast but I didn't know it would be that be bad, it's was my first time in Nebraska and Wyoming at the time back in 2018/19. But drive safe.

FYI: As former OTR driver, when had a crosswind, would apply sailing wind dynamics to windows. Would lower window 1/4th inch on the side opposite the strong wind and the other 1/2 inch. Would help reduce the action on the fifth wheel and trailer would track in lane better. A sailor happened to explain to me that the wind did not move ship by filling the sail, but the low-pressure created was actually pulling sail trying to equalize the.pressure. Noisy but better than dancing all over lane.

As u usually have your defrost cranked and windows cracked anyway in these conditions! Interesting. I suppose every little bit helps. Dunno if I'd do it in this rain? Does it really help hold a lane? I'd think you'd need to open more window to even remotely effect aerodynamics

To Grow the Farm Up., the semi was a KW T600 and as soon as I cracked the 2nd window the cab would center-up in front of the 53ft trailer, would once again have equal vision out of west coast mirrors. Used listen to weather channel on I80 westbound to.hear wind speeds along the interstate system. 50 mph winds was the max for crosswinds. Lady 80 lb 70 yr old who tried to average 3500 to 5000 miles per week. Had to retire earllyt at 73 and sell truck because of side effect of a prescription.

Wow I'm so glad you made it through that storm safe. I just wanted to thank all you truck drivers once again for what you do. I live in Salt Lake and work at the post office and When that storm hit us last week it dumped a foot of snow overnight and four of our trucks didn't show up through the night so when we got to work at 6:30 there wasn't much to do. It just proves once again you guys move this country. My highest regards to you 🙂

That was a heck of a ride. Glad you made that in one piece. The storms you were talking about hit close to home. One tornado was 8 miles from my home that was an EF4 that went all the way to Kentucky. That one missed my sister about 10 miles. It hit Mayfield, KY. We had another EF2 that hit 9 miles away at Truman, AR that was coming my way but broke up when it hit the St. Francis River. All my family in both states are fine. May the Lord continue to keep you safe.

That was a very nasty storm here in Kansas City so I can only imagine it was worse out west. At one point Manhattan, KS had 79mph winds and the storm was moving east at almost 80mph. One of the reasons they had the road shut down I heard was for a huge wildfire out there behind the storm. Hope you made it through safely and always good to see your videos. Thanks for letting us ride along. ✌️

I've been here - Interstate 70 in BOTH states (Kansas AND Colorado - basically between the Kansas Cities and the Eisenhower Tunnel in Colorado) can be nasty - even without tornadoes and blizzards. Another problem area (or areas) are Interstates 80 AND 90 - which are north of here. (It would not surprise me to find (or hear of) Interstate 90 between Olympia and Seattle (the Snoqualmie Pass) getting shut - that is notorious. (I know of it because my mom's sister used to work for the VAMC in Olympia, but she lives in greater Seattle - thus she took I-90 to work.) She is retired now, so it is now merely "whew" info, instead of sweating bullets.)

Next time I'm on the HWY on a windy day and I see trucks driving in the passing lane I wont get mad cause I learned " The Lean Too Lane " not to mention the extra 30 feet or so of " I wish I had a office job " to " I am the best " . Keep it between the ditches .

Seen some videos of traffic driving through Kentucky at the time of the storms last week, some semi's were blown over along the roadway near one of the tornado's. Stay safe Mike and have a Merry Christmas.
