Yes there is a Harlan, Iowa, in the western half of the state, not too far before Omaha. It's very pretty there, but Ky is far more beautiful. I'm in Iowa right now, but my family is from Ky and WV. Getting back there soon!

There was a Case Walkers, there also used to be a Sears catalog store, and I believe that the Roaden's Harlan Drive-in was in that field where the mall is now. Thanks for another stroll down memory lane! PS I always hang in there "to the bitter end" ☺️

We went to the 421 Market and Grill. It was good. The first place we ate when we moved here was the Dairy Hut when we stayed at the hotel. My wife eats her burgers with out buns too. Great video again.

Regarding the former Druther’s Restaurant....Before it was named Druther’s, it was called Burger Queen. I think I was in the fifth grade at Hall Elementary when Burger Queen opened in Harlan and can remember getting a coupon at school for a free hamburger. If I’m not mistaken, Burger Queen was the first fast food hamburger chain to come to Harlan. Also, A&P was located downtown at the corner of South Main and East Clover before moving to the same spot as the current Food City. I recalled going with my grandmother to “trade” at the downtown A&P in the early to mid-1970s.

And you may remember before druthers it was Burger Queen...Christ I'm old!

There was a little burger place along 441 not too far from Manchester that had the best burgers...it was a little mom and pop place, and I think the name was Fudd's but I'm not sure. There was a small department store called Maloney's in Manchester, sort of a mini - K mart. I remember a grocery store called Saylor Brothers as well. A chili dog on a cold day is the perfect meal...

Y'all are killing me with all that great looking food...I have not been able to eat a good meal for two weeks. I have been really bad sick with a bacterial infection in my tummy. I am doing keto when I don't want to be. Lol. When I was little I remember people who worked at A&P wearing uniforms. Cashiers wore white dresses. The stockers and meat dept had white uniforms with a white paper hat. Gas stations were all full service and they wore uniforms. Nurses uniform were strictly dresses with a little hat. My momma was a housekeeper for 3 different hotels in my hometown. Two of those places made her wear a white uniform dress. The other she wore white Capri pants with a white top. I really miss those days. Service really meant something back then. That food looks so good!!!! Last week I was crying watching because I wanted food so bad and couldn't eat. Lol...The best places to eat are always a little small mom and pop place. You always get great food for the money. God bless y'all

OK LISTEN. and the people from Harlan KNOW this to be true DAIRY HUT has THE BEST burgers on planet earth... there is no better burger fries and lemonade anywhere on this earth... and its not even close. God himself bestowed the flavor on a dairy hut burger... its so good if you put a piece on top of your head your tongue will be your brains out to get to it.. if you have never been to dairy hut and think you have had a good burger you most certainly have not...
