My mother was born in southsea in 1918. When I was a kid i well remember visiting my father's mother who lived in Denmead. I recall we used to go to the fair when I was a kid back in the 60's. There was a man who used to sell prawns by the pint if I remember rightly by the entrance to the fairground. Along with winkles etc. Happy Days.

I to spent a lot of time here in the 80s great seaside town also the city of Portsmouth. I used to love going onto South Parade Pier sad to see it closed now. Also the Hovercraft area was open and the spray used to hit you when it pulled away great fun.

Hi Rick, What a great video, I really loved it. In the 50's, as a child, my Mum used to take me to Southsea for a week's holiday, staying at the Wairoa Hotel run by Mr & Mrs Mee on the corner of Florence Road and Clarence Road. Each evening after dinner, we would walk along the sea front up towards and past Southsea Castle. The best bit for me though, was walking through the sunken rock gardens as we went to the beach every day - I thought it was magical. I am transported there the second I smell the scent of the same flowers, wherever I am. I now live in Lincolnshire and am unlikely to ever be able to visit Southsea again. The Wairoa Hotel has been turned into flats or bedsits now I believe, but I'll always remember it. Thank you for your video. Joy xx
