It’s nice to see someone complete a down to earth review of a car. I find most of the other reviewers want everything, 0-60 sub 6 seconds, good motorway cruiser, big boot space, great MPG. Realistically that’s not possible unless you can afford an m3/5

Couldn't agree with you more! I've got a 180bhp Competitzione & absolutely love it! Flawed in many ways but just adds to the fun. I see a few folk saying it doesn't do anything to the suspension, it does if you have a comp with the Koni dampers. Stiffens up the rears 🙂 also opens a valve in the Monza exhaust and effectively makes it a straight through 😁😁

Hay Miller, loved and fully agree with your honest opinion of the Abarth, I'm unsurprised you were grinning and laughing throughout the drive, it's a Brilliant little car, I've got a 595 competizione, it's got a upgraded Ragazzon straight through exhaust with remote control valved, flap for more noise and a straight through rear novitec corsa racing evo, this has completely transformed the sound of my car, with all the pops, bangs and whooshes from the dump valve, it's also been remapped a bit too so I'm getting a good 1 bar on boost, needless to say its very quick and pulls like a train so I do fully recommend an exhaust upgrade in the future! I love mine, any excuse to get out and drive it, yeah as you say a bit bumpy and jittery but that adds to its cheeky fun, unique character and most importantly its 🇮🇹Italian 🇮🇹 so what more could you possibly want in a car, I'm nearly 58 and had loads of cars including fiat's but I've Never had so much fun as with the Abarth, it's driving experience, looks and that unique Abarth sound,🔊🚘 like I always say to people life's Too short not to have an Abarth In it! I'm sure you and your good lady and KZfaq followers who have Abarths will fully agree, happy motoring, Enjoy 🚘🇮🇹💯👍😉

Yay, you have finally driven one. Same colour/stripes as my 2011 Esseesse. I offered Hubnut a drive of it back in Jan thinking be funny if he drove one in NZ before you had in UK but timing didn't allow. He did get a drive in my Bravo HGT though :) Can only agree with your Abarth summary, flawed grin machine. Glad to do a 600km fun drive in mine before we locked down, it is only going to the supermarket & back for a month at least. Good thing about the older ones is if you press Sport it stays on after a shutdown. Mine lives in Sport apart from motorway commuting nose/tail crawls as find the throttle a bit touchy then. Keep well.

I've had two of these, great little cars 👍

TTC is Torque Transfer Control (mimics a mechanical slippy diff) and Sport just boosts torque & throttle response & firms the steering up. No effect on ride or dampers👍🏻

Got a soft spot for the little 500, especially in Abarth spec. Had a new shape sport in blue previously which looked great but lacked the ooomph

Fun fact: the 2nd generation Ford Ka was based off the Fiat 500. It's a shame they didn't make a sporty Ka off the Abarth 500... that would be pretty awesome.

Love mine too, sport does nothing to the suspension though, just boost/ torque and makes the steering heavier. Worth having the tracking done a lot, it ends up driving like jelly otherwise lol

It's not a parcel shelf. It's an airline seat dinner tray! 😂

Sport mode just makes steering stiffer and gives more throttle response, doesn’t change anything with the exhaust or suspension

What an amazing car but is this one the 135BHP??

If I had a Fiet 500 I think I would have to remove the rear seats. As is, they are useless for anything neer the size of an adult and the extra boot space would be far more useful (also the ability to fit a decent subwoofer could really bring the sound system to life). Having said that, these cars are way out of my budget having just bought a very used Mk 2 Punto.

Love the new 500, even in stock form! Would love love LOVE an Abarth! The new 500 was FIAT's first foray back here to North America in 2012...sadly they won't be selling it here anymore after this year, just the 500L and 500X...boo! I've highly considered replacing Humdrum with a 500 when the time comes, and an Abarth would make an awesome choice. Fun fact, your base Abarths (at least of the vintage your gf's car is) I THINK are 135hp...with 160hp being on the EsseEsse trim? Here in North America, 160hp was the only engine you could get in the Abarth, so that's nice! :P

I drove a fiat 500 abarth and I use to be a fan boy to, but I will be hones what a disappointment and the one with a monza exhausl sounds like a tractor, to me I prefera to drive a lupo gti, fiat seicento, fiat panda 1.4 or a fiesta st 150, i found the 500 abarth verry uncomfortable and not that fast.

NEW CAR?

We bought a 2017 Reg Turismo 595 about 3 months ago. My wife had a baby blue Fiat 500 Therapy model before this. This thing is the most fun ever. By the way we're 68 and 69!!! The sport button gets pressed as soon as we leave town ( sometimes before!).
