Frightening: I think I’ll stick to leaving the car on the drive a tad longer, and only drive at 5am. I think the best clips here are the ones where you critique the cammers - too many folks think they are better than others and end up acting worse because of it (yep, most of us are probably guilty of that at some point to a greater of lesser degree, but hopefully grow out of it quicker for watching Ashleys professional opinions). No chance of winning a dashcam this time, I don’t do Instant Gran.

Regarding clip 17, the camera driver didn't cause the situation he turned onto the road (possible a bit late) but the car behind was intend on being to close, when he increased he speed the gap remained the same, I was taught if a car is intent of tailgating it's best to drive at a reduce speed in-order to increase the time gap between yourselves and the potential energy in any crash.

Clip 17 11:33 Surely there is a case for slowing your speed when we have someone tailgating us due to reduced reaction time of the tailgater should something happen in front of us? Example if we’re being tailgated at 50mph and a car pulls out on us and we need to make an emergency stop there’s a good chance there’ll be a collision behind us. Obviously needs to be balanced with the fact that slowing also can be antagonising to the other driver too
@Dr3Mc3Ninja

Yeah, when on my lessons, I was told to slow down a bit-where appropriate. If it is an open straight, I wouldn't slow down too much, but if it is a road with a lot of junctions or bends/hills, yeah. I was tailgated for a solid 8 minutes during my test on a country road, it was a 60mph limit, but I can only do 45, so I dropped to between 30 and 40, and my tester didn't mark me for any minors regarding that. The road was narrow, bendy and had loads of hills, and I ended up behind a tractor.

I also had this thought. Regarding clip number 17. I agree that the cammer should have got up to the speed limit before reducing speed and was simply antagonising the car behind. However, I do remember that Ashely said in previous videos that when you are being tailgated you should reduce speed to reduce risk. Have I misunderstood this point? If after a while the cammer was being tailgated is his lower speed justified?

Agree. This is the only point that I'm not too sure of Ashley's analysis. Now if he were continuing at 20mph, it would be antagonising for sure. But 24mph, while not ideal, is hardly as bad as tailgating, particularly as the tailgating itself is a stressful situation for the driver in front needing to anticipate in good time ahead.

And it often saves time. There's a busy Sainsbury near me and I nearly always reverse park into one of the first places I come to whilst others head off to zig zag up and down the lanes looking for the closest parking spot. I'm often walking into the shop whilst they're still circling. And then on the way out of the car park I'm parked right by the exit and able to pull straight out into the main flow of vehicles waiting for the lights. Meanwhile those who did park up close to the supermarket are stuck waiting behind several cars just to be let out at the end of their lanes.

The only thing the van driver did wrong was speeding. There was nothing that said overtaking is not allowed. In my opinion, what the cammer did was worse than the van's speeding. Overtakes even at legal speeds are unsafe situations. Never, ever make them worse by trying to block an overtake or by accelerating. You are not the police of the road.

Happened to the girl who joined me in New Zealand. Never happened to me. It's simple: while driving keep the steering wheel in the middle of the road. When going to a round about: put the wheels into the direction where you should go to. Stop. Look carefully. Then just start driving without using the steering wheel in the first meters. The only problem I had was to find the switch for signalling and before entering the car - I always walked to the co drivers side

Those rows were more recently repainted at that Tescos and those spaces are wider, especially over that back row that you see the poorly parked Megane convertible in. If they repainted that back row I'd happily park there instead, but a Focus (not a big car for those who might not know) wing mirror to wing mirror cannot fit inside the lines of some of those spaces (if drawn up to open wing mirrors).

Great to see a professional narrative. Glad to hear that you acknowledge that sometimes cammers are on par with other road users. Dash cam doesn't make driver invincible. It does save life and money in case of an accident. But more often I can see that it is used as a weapon in "road wars" between drivers. Clip 17 - I like quite a few of these. I get tailgated a lot in the heavy traffic, single carriageway trunk roads around here and have tried for years to find a decent solution to it. The problem is that on our local A roads, there's so few options for allowing the offender to pass and in many cases, that's not what they want to do anyway. Your determined tailgater is immune to rational thought processes and I've had to resort to imagining he's caught an intimate part of himself in his zip and is unable to concentrate on his driving, just double my braking distance from the vehicle in front and hope nothing happens before something eventually separates us.

I think no:7 is an interesting one! The VW had actually stopped completely we’ll back from the give way lines. I agree that checking ones speed at junctions is sensible, if there are drivers waiting to cross, but this was slightly different. The cam car would have had to slow to such and extent, the VW, had they even looked, might have been confused as to the cam car’s intentions. Passing a junction is always a sliding scale of risk and continued progress. We can’t slow to a speed to avoid an accident, if the other driver pulls out immediately in front of us. If they REALLY didn’t look at all, then the chances of this are as high / low as for any distance away. I think as well as a slight ease off here, I’d have been looking to the VW driver for recognition. Were they not to even be looking in the oncoming traffic direction at all, I would have continued to slow slightly ore and so on. Also, check mirrors before passing a junction like this, as the following traffic might have a bearing on your possible actions and available escape routes / actions, as Ashley mentioned.

I had an accident in a similar situation to this on a similar road with a 40mph limit. I was in lane 2 and there was a minibus in lane 1 turning left. I was at the rear corner of the minibus at approx 35mph when the car waiting to turn right from the side street decided to go despite not being able to see if anything was coming in lane 2. In the time I had to react I’m not sure if I had time to actually hit the brakes, might have just got to them and knocked a few mph off my speed, but it was still a pretty big hit. Both vehicles written off, airbags deployed and only minor injuries - seatbelt bruising and burns from the airbag deployment. The other driver was reported to PF for careless driving, never found out if they got points and a fine or an awareness course.

Alan Morrison That’s a shame, but that’s so common! I hope it wasn’t your ‘pride and joy’ type vehicle and easily replaced? Hopefully the 3rd party insurance paid out quickly in such a clear cut case? Glad everyone recovered ok. People seem to have a mentality, that if their vision is completely blocked, then it must be clear. ‘I couldn’t see, what was I supposed to do?’ is the common cry. I’d like to suggest.....WAIT UNTIL YOU CAN SEE even if it takes a little longer 🙄 Otherwise, you’re just playing vehicular Russian Roulette 🔫 A person near here pulled out onto a dual carriageway from a side road and caused a multi car collision. They had emerged into the path of a car in lane 1, far too close and lane two was also occupied. (Cars on a DC can’t slow right down at every point traffics joins. We can check mirrors and escape routes and move to lane 2 if space, but slowing sufficiently would be a hazard in itself! ) Their MUM (passenger) 🤪 was quoted in the paper, saying ‘There wasn’t a gap, but we were late and can’t sit there waiting all day. It’s a dangerous road anyway’ The local paper then started banging on about SPEEDING, not driver training and awareness. Again 🙄

A car in front was tailgating, I kept a safe distance, the car in front of me hits the brakes, and literally swerves to the right and into the wrong lane, to avoid rear-ending the car they were tailgating (They were turning left and the car in front of me, was so close that they had no option but to dramatically swerve around them.) Later on, that car was bouncing between the right and left lanes, absolutely no clue what lane they were supposed to be in. And I was worried about the quality of my driving after not having driven since passing my test in September.

Clip 8 reminded me of a walk I have regularly do. I am very fortunate to live on the edge of woodland where the descendents of Badger from The Wind in The Willows still live. But there is one point in my route which is narrow for about 20 metres. To ensure a 2 metre gap is maintained, it has become quite normal to wait if somebody is coming the other way through it. Keep safe everybody.

I actually think clip 1 was the most interesting because the most common accidents occur in car parks from what I hear and it's quite a tense situation. Definitely awkward having to park next to them after. I do think they should have been looking more as they reversed especially for the pedestrian; that guy was being a wally but it doesn't mean you can run him over. All from tension from the previous occurance methinks.

In relation to clip 17 I was always taught if you have someone aggressively tailing-gating behind you, you should carefully reduce your speed and at the first opportunity let them past. Although he certainly made it harder for the blue Ford to get past rather than getting out of the way, up until that point his speed didn’t seem unreasonable. 20-25mph in a 30 while being tail-gated. Was it just the behavior during/after the overtake or should the cammer have sped up to closer to 30mph in the first place?

The roundabout at 2:29 is one I use, in that direction, most days. The road markings on the approach, and indeed on the roundabout, are not brilliant and could easily confuse a unwary driver (I'm not attempting to condone the actions of the driver), infact I would say that on most days, at the times I use it (not rush hour), someone is in the wrong lane, or doesn't understand where the lane is going. This roundabout is not unique in Salford for being confusing. I think it is important to recognise the lane instructions. First off, there are two green signposts with a map of the roundabout on the approach to the roundabout, however, one obscures the view of the other (with the help of some trees). There are no signposts to suggest what lane you should be in. The road is Dual Carriageway (two lanes), however, the right lane splits into two on the approach to the roundabout, making a total of three. The third lane starts before the roadsigns, though you can see the first one ahead. The left lane is marked with a left and straight ahead arrow at this point, the other two are marked straight ahead only. Just past the roadsign, the left lane is also marked "M602 A57" (first and second exit), the middle lane marked "M602 A5063" (second and third (straight ahead) exit) and the right lane marked "M'CR A57" (technically fourth exit). There is a set of lights to enter the roundabout. At the first exit on the roundabout there is another set of lights (for traffic continuing round). The left and centre lanes have a straight ahead marking and the right lane has a right turn only marking. The left lane is also marked "M602" (now first exit), the middle lane "M602 A5063" (now first and second exit), and the third lane is marked "M'CR A57" (technically now third exit). Between this set of lights and the next, there are more road markings, partly due to traffic entering from the A57. The left lane is marked as leaving the roundabout (for traffic already on it) and also continuing around the roundabout (for traffic from the A57). The middle lane is also marked for traffic joining and leaving the roundabout. The left lane leaving the roundabout has a left turn arrow and "M602", the centre lane leaving the roundabout is unmarked. The left lane continuing on the roundabout is marked "S'FORD A5063" with a straight ahead arrow, the centre lane is marked with a straight ahead and right turn arrow plus "A57 A5063". The right lane has a right turn arrow and "A57". At this third set of lights, the M602 crosses directly in front (traffic light controlled). The right lane actually does a right turn onto what was the M602 (now becoming the A57) with the lane ahead becoming a hatched area (always confuses people). All traffic for the A57 (to Manchester) should turn right here, but often vehicles will continue around the roundabout, even over the hatch area ahead (bare in mind that there are six lanes of cross traffic before the hatching starts in the right lane). Traffic joining from the A57 going to it's fourth exit (A6053 towards Trafford Park, which the cammer just left) should be in the centre lane, not the right lane at this point..... And that's only half way round the roundabout.... In short, no, they should not have been in the left lane, I wouldn't have been, but I can understand how they might have ended up there. That last clip brought back a bad memory, different roundabout of course. It's almost exactly a year since my accident and that was an uncomfortable memory for me (not your fault as you couldn't have known).

Clip 15. don't always think that a truck driver, bus or other large vehicle always sees you, they just need a little more space. 99% of drivers don't intentionally squeeze you, or push you against the curb, you just don't always see. Do not dive next to it in a bend, or on a roundabout or something like that, wait 5 seconds longer, that saves you a lot of annoyance damage and paperwork. And if you stand next to it, go further back so that he can see you in his mirrors, simply if you can see the driver in the outside mirror, he will see you too.

I'm not sure if clip 12 is deliberate or because the attention given to a speeding van took some focus away from the road ahead. Speeding vehicles in the rear view can be intimidating. Clip 17 could be an excessively under offset speedo the driver isn't aware of, I've had that problem in some cars, to drive at 30 the needle has to point to 35!

12:33 the whole clip was the Nissan fault, he overtook the biker so knew he was there, and was far enough infront for a good while to have him in the left mirror, yes the bike looked to be in the blind spot last off, but if the Nissan had been paying attention he would've known the bike could still be there and shoulder checked before moving even without his indicator.

I do not have a "favourite" clip on the basis that ALL of them highlighted different hazards, poor roadcraft and (or) situations that were avoidable. If it is an option then I choose ALL of the submitted clips - we can learn from this whole compilation. If that is not an option - clip 18 takes pole position....... Poor roadcraft from the Nissan who I suspect had forgotten about the biker despite the recent overtake. Unfortunately I have to question why the biker didn't hang back slightly as the footage indicated the possibility that the Nissan would cut into the left hand lane to avoid the red car which appeared to be stationary. Having said that I hope you didn't suffer any injuries. Thanks to everyone for the clips and to Ashley for posting them with your usual succinct analysis. Stay safe everyone 👍👍.

I like clip 13. I find it a bit strange you didn't call out the cammer for overtaking a left-turning car. The car took way too long to turn left (couldn't have been a new driver because they have to have a white triangle on the back if they don't have a license) but I still don't think that warrants an overtake like that. I also like the clip because it's on the right hand side and where I'm from.
