I was just in a crash, I was clear to go, i reversed from a bay, i was 90 degrees out of it when a car came up parked on the double yellow line and scraped my rear left. I got out shouting, because when I started the reverse no car was there. I even waited for one car to move before I started to move. He threatened me, so I got in the car and left. I told the police about it. He said I was to blame, I think he’s to blame for not allowing me the space, plus he parked on yellows.

Denial is quite a common emotion when something like that happens as people will look to blame anyone but themselves. Once the adrenaline and shock wears off the realisation usually comes around, still with a hint of denial on some occasions. While it wasn’t the best response from the driver behind and to be honest, I would be keeping the doors locked until he calmed down or police arrived, it is unfortunately a reaction to the adrenaline shot mixing with other hormones. Lets hope as his body learns to deal with this more, the reactions are less severe

@@pawtrolling I once called the police when someone got really aggressive towards me following a minor collision, after which I sat in my car with the doors locked and windows up until they arrived. When they turned up, the copper threatened to prosecute me for not having given my details to the person threatening to lamp me. One of many instances that make me very wary of the police. nah, both cammers could have easily got through on amber, most people don't want to sit at the lights for several mins extra, it only went to red because the cammer slowed on amber, the majority of people are speeding up to avoid having to wait at the lights, however, the BMW should have accounted for the possibility that the driver might be in the minority that decide to waste their own time and slow on amber and he should have slowed down, I can normally tell from the car someone is driving and their driving style whether they're likely to slow down or not, never had a crash. i/e BMW is going to speed up to avoid red, Honda Jazz is going to slow down on amber

I’ve heard of plumbers vans catching fire due to soldering equipment being placed in the van while still hot. Steel wool in particular is very combustible if it comes into contact with battery terminals or hot surfaces. I’m a plumber and it’s something I’m very careful about.

Not a plumber or anything like it, but that was my first thought as well, something in their load catching fire. Saw a clip yesterday where a biker had dropped their phone, damaging it. They put it somewhere into a storage compartment on the bike. When they stopped for fuel they noticed smoke coming out of the bike, initially thinking it was something with the bike. Turned out it was the phone, the battery had got damaged and caught fire.

Blowtorch gas can go off too. I have had a leaky bottle before when it was almost empty. In those situations having the correct whirl vent on the back of the van is not optional. If you go to solder on the back step or maybe even when the internal rear lights come on, boom... Bad day at the office. Burned down the office, in fact.
@ArminGrewe
@ArminGrewe 3 ай бұрын
@@OkenWS Excuse my ignorance, what exactly is a whirl vent? Is that these spinning things I've sometimes seen on the roof of work style vans and wondered what they are for? So if I understand what you say correctly they are to get dangerous (eg combustible) fumes out, not to get fresh air in?

@@ArminGrewe that's right, and you can't have air out without air in so it's both! A van back compartment is effectively - in H+S terms - a confined space, so if there is ANY risk of dangerous gases (combustibles, sulphides, monoxide) developing, it needs forced vent.

In 2002 When I was doing my Class C I set off from a roundabout and a lad came round at speed I had to do an emergency stop. The examiner slid off the seat and into the footwell (no belts in wagons then). He didn’t say a word. I passed and he said it was the right thing to do. Did my Class C+E (articulated) a few weeks later out of Kirkham. Sat in the waiting room with my trainer and when the examiners came out my trainer said, “ah you’ll be alright with him”. He took me on the then Weeton Barracks test route and round Blackpool streets. Nerve wracking, He was hanging out the window on every left turn checking the trailer wheels but I held it together. At one point my right foot was twitching so bad with nerves. I passed but my trainer told me after that he was the hardest examiner there and he didn’t want me to know beforehand.

In my anecdotal opinion, there has been a steep decline in driving standards over the past few years. Not a day goes by now when I don't see red-light jumpers, texting while driving, tailgating and refusing to indicate, all on the same commute, usually. I've reported a couple of the red light-jumpers and the police emailed me to confirm they'd sent the drivers on a diversionary course or given points, so they do act when it's blatant.

You are correct. Thanks, Ashley. One hope's the driver at 02:20 also received a civil action. I was looking at the stats yesterday, and men 17-24 kill die at the wheel of their cars TWICE AS OFTEN as women of the same age per distance driven. It seems to be time for more carefully graduated licences, and to bring in COntinuing Driver Education for all of us. I think at 5:45 on the pull out the vehicle turning out *could* see properly - there's a full view for at least 2 seconds of their whole window. so they can see. There are two options: either the driver saw the person riding the cycle and pulled out anyway, or chose not to look. Good to see you calling out ASB at school zig-zags. In Cheshire this can now be reported online to the police, via Operation Parksafe. Remember that it's Police and Crime Commissioner Elections in May - remember to tell them what priorities you need.

Yeah, completely unsurprised by the driver of the blue BMW blaming the cam car driver. Imagine their gall at following the rules! How dare they get in the way of his joy ride! Pillock that shouldn't be allowed to drive unsupervised. 6:16 - I see this ALL the time. Gridlocked junction and someone in front of me just charges on in and fills up the one space that would have allowed the gridlock to sort itself out. All the time. Too many drivers only react to what's immediately in front of their bumper, they don't look ahead and assess.

Video number one, doing that at an intersection is really dangerous, at least he just bumped into a car instead of driving over a pedestrian. And at 9:45 here is an example why waiting for a green traffic light is so dangerous for cyclists. This should be heavily prosecuted. It *should* be safe for cyclists to follow the rules and wait for a green light, but in practice it is suicidally dangerous.

When approaching a long established green, I'll check to see if anyone is arroaching at speed, behind me. If they are, depending on distance to the light, if it changes to amber, I'll either tap the brakes repeatedly, so they notice, then gently slow down, or go though the amber if it's not safe to stop(within a few car lengths when it changed) People usually notice the flashing brakelights and slow down. Rarely, they speed-up, then realise you are actually going to stop for the light.

There's such a lack of accountability on our roads. Not just with young drivers, but experienced too. I've had recent issues where emergency service vehicles have scolded me for them being in the wrong lane, only for mem to explain that it is in fact them that's in the wrong. How can we have any road respect when the powers that be don't know half of the rules themselves. I Don't really think it's a driving issue though, more of a society problem that's been steadily getting worse over time. Must get ahead syndrome is rife now. If I could get away with not driving... Genuinely I would. That clip with the BMW going into the back of the car in front is a classic example of must get ahead syndrome mixed with the lack of defensive driving. Driving tests can't and will never be able to weed out those with forced habits but a bi-annually psychometric test would. A man can dream.

My local tip has herringboned parking spaces to allow you to reverse in and unload the boot directly into the skips. Every time I go there I find someone trying to turn right through 120 degrees to drive forward into the space, usually taking three shunts to do it, and then having to unload the boot into a live running lane. Then they'll have to go through the same palaver to get out again. Where do these people learn to drive?

I've rear ended 2 cars before. Once when I was scanning a roundabout and worked out it would be clear by the time I got there but of course there was someone in front it was not clear for and my eyes were tunneled to the right. The second was doing the same thing at a junction onto a main road. Thankfully it wasn't more than 5 mph. I settled the junction privately with £200 when they had the bill for the bumper so my insurance wouldn't rise. The roundabout one didn't do any damage thankfully. I imagine the fastest ones are people looking at their phones when a high speed road is brought to a crawl.

Regarding the horn use around 8:45, many cars have the horn on the centre of steering wheel; if you are using the horn and have to brake hard a quick pip turns into a long honk as you naturally brace yourself against the wheel. It's happened to my as I saw a car waiting to turn right and guessed he wouldn't see me through the oncoming traffic. I did a couple of pips and started scrubbing speed; sure enough he "gap-dashed" and I had to brake harder as he then hesitated on realising I was there. I'd managed to anticipate the issue and stopped in time but I must have sounded really aggressive to him.

Van fire - possibly a seized caliper/shoe or handbrake cable. Brake is applied constantly, but not enough to stop the van from moving. Friction causes it to heat up until something catches fire. See it quite often on HGVs, also with wheel bearings. It gets very hot to the point that it starts smoking, but the airflow of motion stops it from bursting into flames. The driver realised there is an issue, stops, and suddenly it's an inferno.
@kenbrown2808
@kenbrown2808 3 ай бұрын
true. also happens on long downgrades with inexperienced HGV drivers. if they let off the brakes and keep moving until it cools off, they lose the wheel assembly. if they try to stop to fight the fire, they lose the whole thing.

@@kenbrown2808I saw that happen spectacularly to a car coming down to the coast from Cooma on the Snowy Mountains Highway, Australia. That stretch of road has a very long downhill section. I was following an old Holden station wagon, fully loaded and with a heap of stuff on roof bars. It was obvious from the brake lights that the driver was holding it on the brakes all the way down, rather than using low gear. At the bottom, he pulled off and stopped on the shoulder - and the car burst into flames at all four corners simultaneously. The occupants (family with kids) all got out OK, but the car and all their kit for their camping holiday were destroyed.

I think in the third clip, while the 1-Series driver was clearly at fault, the cammer should've approached the lights a bit more slowly. Purely on the grounds of controlling the traffic from behind. It looks as if it was coming off a motorway or other 70mph carridgeway, so speed control is crucial in that situation.

to the van catching fire, there are lots of things in the building trade that can catch fire in the back of a van, all you need is bad storage or something not tied down properly and it comes loose, spark from a battery, heat build up of some materials and so on and a fire begins. good thing the hard shoulder was there so the driver could get out and get to safety away from the fire.

Police officer points out that the plate (or tag as they call it) is hanging on rings/swivels so is blown up by the wind while the bike is moving, making it difficult for the police officer to read. To demonstrate it the police officer pushes against the plate and as it swings back forward it gets stuck (can't remember exactly, there might have even been a magnet involved) and therefore is completely invisible. Whooooooops..... Unfortunately can't remember how the police handled it.
