I've been to Florida twice on holiday and the thunderstorms is always the first thing i remember when i was staying in Orlando. We would go to places when it was nice and sunny then by the time we left to go back to the hotel it the sky would slowly turn black with loads of lightning followed by torrential rain. Half an hour later they would pass. I used to watch the storms coming in from my hotel room as well. Fun times.

Fantastic! I do this every time I am in Central Florida on vacation. I currently live in Southern C.A. but I used to live in Satellite Beach,Florida from 1969 to 1971. During the summer months, we had pop-up thunderstorms almost every day. Some were more severe than others, but most of them only lasted like a few minutes or so. I travel to Central Florida almost every summer because I have such fond childhood memories of living there and also because I love it so much, despite the weather! Being I am a huge NASA fan, that is the other reason. But the summer weather always fascinates me so I began doing some novice storm chasing if you will. In other words, I do the same thing you are doing here. When I see a storm forming off in the distance, I will drive straight into it to see how severe it is. I drove through a real strong one in Orlando this past June on the way back to Melbourne where I was staying. The lightning was extremely spectacular and the thunder sounded literally like cannon going off! Needless to say, the rain was flatout torrential. I got a little nervous because it became hard to see in front of me. I experienced a similar one in Orlando last year after coming back from Old Kissimmee on the way to Satellite Beach. Last years' was in the afternoon and this years' was at nighttime. It's never a dull moment in Central Florida during the summer weatherwise!
@Christin55544 жыл бұрын
omg you guys are nuts. I lived in MELBOURNE ;-) from 1980 -1996 and I am so glad to be away from there... because of the thunderstorms. When we first moved there the thunderstorms were not so bad and far and few between. Towards the end (1996) in the summertime we had them almost every day and quiet severe, so bad that the walls vibrated and be had brick siding and a concrete shingle roof. To me these thunderstorms were more fightening than the hurricanes. My husband once, he was mad at me, got in the middle of a severe storm onto his riding mower and started to mow the grass, lightning stricking all around, some people have more luck then sence ;-))

Thunderstorms are bad all over the south. I imagine most of FL is flood prone because it's flat. NC thunderstorms are terrible too. I lived there between 2007 and 2008. They were worse during the spring and summer of '08 because the state wasn't under a drought anymore. One storm cut off power to where we lived for a few hours. Then, just as we were leaving to go to a restaurant, there was another thunderstorm that shut off power to the whole complex. Turned out Cabarrus County was under a flood warning.

Thank you so much for sharing your video. Wow that was some thunderstorm. It was great to c the edge of the cell up in front of you . The forked lightening was amazing🤗⚡️⚡️ We never get good storms like that here in central Scotland. If we get any it’s just a couple o flashes of lightening and then a few wee rumbles of thunder. Worst storm I saw was about 37 years ago in the valleys of South Wales. There were fireballs that scared the life out of me. Someone’s house was hit by one and it fried all their electrics, telephone and anything that was plugged into the mains electricity. It caused a lot of damage. Do you get many storms like this? Do you get tornados? Sorry for all the questions, extreme weather especially thunder storms fascinate me.

Central Florida gets lots of bad weather. A friend who lived in Kissimmee told me in the early 2000's an F-4 tornado hit the town. Florida has more tornados per square mile than any other state. Also, more deaths due to low income housing such as trailer parks. And hurricanes is another story altogether.
@michaellefevers42488 ай бұрын
There was a huge winter storm in Dec 1998. I was driving back from Ft. Lauderdale to Jacksonville in a car rental. I ran into the front, complete with science fiction epic lightning. I was listening to the radio, in heavy rain, and the guy says "Tornado on the ground in Brevard county, some number of miles from Cape Canaveral. A few seconds later, out of the downpour on I-95 I see the sign that says Cape Canaveral Next Exit" 😦 I was like, "so this is how it ends". I pulled off the freeway to a gas station. I never saw the tornado, but I FELT it. After it passed, the rest of the way up to Jax was a clear starry night. Unreal experience.

That's so spooky! Especially the darkness that such severe thunderstorms often brings, it almost looked like night time when you got close. This reminds me of one time when I was a kid and I was on a car ride with my dad. At one point, the seven-year old me actually thought that we "drove into a night" so to speak, I thought it was so strange that the border between day and night was so sharp. It wasn't until several years later that I reslized that it must have been a thunderstorm we went into 😅
