In this video, you see me driving my 1962 GM PD4106 bus, as well as get a tour of the inside! This bus originally was a Greyhound Bus PD4106-1346. Central Greyhound Lines Kansas City Missouri, put into service 4/7/62. The bus has an 8V-71 Detroit Diesel engine, with an Allison V-730-D Automatic Transmission. It has been retrofitted as an RV, with front lounge, and kitchen and dining area, bunk beds, a bathroom, and a rear bedroom.

that interior in the rear is wonderful. a tasteful escape from the minimalist corporate garbage you see in the mainstream now. no LEDs either 😊

No power steering! Imagine trying to drive that bus with NO POWER STEERING AND SHIFTING a non-synchronized transmission, DOUBLE CLUTCHING, AND IN CITY TRAFFIC with passengers for many hours. One hand on the wheel and one on the shifter. It was A LOT OF WORK. I used to do that when I was young. It's so painful to watch you turn. Good luck with that. Check out my bus if you haven't already.

I think the later 4106’ had power steering
@macelius
@macelius 3 жыл бұрын
@@sidallen685 Was an option i'm pretty sure, but i've heard that the hydraulic ram used was more like power-assist and still pretty difficult to turn at low speeds or a standstill (which is why so many were retrofitted with a Sheppard box, including mine).

@@macelius Mine has p.s. It is actually too light, I can steer with one finger.

@@garydesgres1382, Ahh, but it is a blessing in disguise. The super-light steering prevents you from using that finger, when impatient drivers cut you off.

Yes, if setup right the steering was fairly light, but only if it was setup properly. I drove a 1960s GM transit bus for years with manual steering, until we got ram- assisted steering.

Same year I was born, but I already have a vehicle from that year, so we may go get a bus the same year my wife was born 74.

In all of his videos, he seems to enjoy threading the bus through narrow roads, parking lots, and discontinued deer trails.

actually, all the couches and chairs, lack of a kitchen, lack of a bathroom and having bunk beds says that this was a tour bus

Curious, If I may ask, how much was it to switch the trans over to an automatic? And how much time did it take?

George bought it with it already having automatic transmission.

You need a V730, flywheel, bellhousing spacer to clear the cradle and bulkhead beam, longer input shaft to match, cooler, filter, shifter and kickdown (either cable or air), a bit of trimming on the cradle and bulkhead is required, as well as possibly a custom driveshaft. A bit of work, Bus Grease Monkey did a few videos on converting Lance's 4106 if you look back through them. P.S. I have a spare V730 with everything but the spacer and input shaft if anyone's looking (located in AZ).
