Join me and @KayyyWild on an action packed 4 part series driving northern Thailand's incredible Mae Hong Son Loop.
In this episode we rent our motorbikes, leave Chiang Mai and head to Pai taking the famous route 1095, stopping at Mok Fa Waterfall and Pai Canyon on the way.

When I retired I moved to Chiang Mai. I have been around the loop 6 times with additional trips to Pai and MHS. I lived near the Tail of the Dragon in the US, but the MHS loop just goes on forever and the side trip opportunities are endless. I have ridden 26,000 KM in NW Thailand and have not scratched the surface. This is bucket list stuff!

Very nice shooting. I started visiting Pai in 2003, and kept going back partly because I loved the area, but also due to the local teacher I married 6 years later :) It's grown a lot since then, and isn't such a peaceful backwater these days. That road is wonderful - I've been learning it in my Hilux since 2005, and pretty much memorised the Chiang Mai/Pai/Mae Hong Son/Mae Sariang run - next year I'll start on the next section :)

Great video guys, brought back some very pleasant memories for me. I rode the loop twice (clockwise, then anti clockwise) about 16 years ago on a Honda 750 Four, and it looks as gorgeous as ever. In fact some of the road sections have been resurfaced and look way smoother. You've got me itching to go back after watching this.

Checked this out because of Kayyywild!!! Love all the stunning drone shots in the intro... Looks like you guys had a blast though. So much adventure between the two of you! Those speed ramps though! I keep on thinking about how long you guys had to stop and capture which was a huge task I'm sure! That waterfall is stunning! So nice to see you guys capture each other in the moment! LOVE IT! Too bad you guys couldn't get in the waterfall because it was too strong! Yes! You made it to Pai and it is so magical! Doesn't even seem real! I love that we can see both of your perspectives even though you guys travelled there together. Can't wait to see more adventures from the two of you.

I've been around the loop 6 times. There is so much to see and do I've barely scratched the surface. One thing you should know: the Mae Sa Elephant camp is just upstream from a series of waterfalls off Asian Hwy 1096. The elephants swim in the river and although they have some pooper scoopers try to keep poops from going downstream, elephants drink around 30 gallons of water a day so urine does go downstream.

Your films using the drone are very good indeed....even the road trip was interesting 😊 the canyon landscape was fantastic...I’ve never seen anything like that before and it felt an exciting watch the way you filmed it. 😎

When King RAMA 9 died, Thailand suddenly decided drones had to be registered and insured. I got to it and was the 158th registered out of 45,000 drones, after the funeral, I never heard about drone registration again. I let a monk fly my drone at the temple west of the cop shop in Mae Rim.

Awesome video Josh. Beautiful cinematography and great storytelling, loved the edit. How did you do those drone shots with both of you driving?! I also visited Pai canyon and loved it but thought it was pretty dangerous too, good footwear a must. All the best for 2021 👍🏼

You're right, the Pai canyon is great for sundown photos or for falling 150 feet to your death.
