It's fair to say that Ford's ST range of cars has always come second best to the legendary GTI models. Will the MK4 ST change that?
In today's video we take a look around the Focus ST to discover what it's all about, and to find out what it's really like to drive. The brand-new Focus ST was launched in 2019 with the 2.3 Litre 4 cylinder engine that is shared witht the MK3 Focus RS. With 280bhp and 310 lb/ft, you can't shake a stick at it's statistics.
What makes this car unique is that it offers an e-LSD for the first time in it's class, that's an electronic LSD that is mechanically controlled.

I've seen you are a solid guy. I am too. How did you find the front seats? Are they ok for you on long distance? Thanks.

They're comfortable, snug, but not snug to the point where they become uncomfortable. I think on a long journey, (I'd probably done 60 or so minutes in the car) they'll be fine.

@@JustTheDriven You mentioned Rev-matching. Is this possible in Sport Mode. Someone told me it is only in Track Mode which, on my estate, I don't have because Performance Pack is available only on hatch. Thanks.

It's a performance pack feature and is active in slippery, sport and track mode only.

I know what you mean about the hot hatch thing, it was a toss up between golf GTi performance pack or 140i ,plumped for beemer , loving it.

The 140i is an exceptional car, I think it's up there with the RS3 given the potential of them.

Hot hatches will always be hot hatches, but with the demands of mass-market models they have to be a jack of all trades but master of none. Only if they want to set lap records do they throw out limited edition specials with all comforts stripped out and dial turned up to 11, but these don't make a manufacturer much money, only just to satisfy the most hardcore fans, and its the mass-market models that keep and company going, so without them there wouldn't be a business. MK4 seems to have defo raised the bar over the MK3, but then again when the competition in the market is this fierce in order to survive you have to bring out a well thought out and well-rounded product!

That's right, whereas some models sacrifice comfort for rawness, the Focus seems to get it right across the board. I the MK3 bar isn't even visible given how high the MK4 has set it! Definitely worth a drive.

So glad to hear you enjoy the manual gearbox! If every American potential Ford customer contacts Ford US, I believe they will rethink their decision and bring back this wonderful hot hatch. As it is, we've got the Golf GTI and the Civic Type R. But I'd choose the Focus ST if it was available here.

I'm not sure on the link myself buddy, may be worth checking out the Focus ST owners club as there are posts there I believe 👍 a few peopl have done them now and they look very smart

Don’t get too excited! I’ve had steering failure on mine when driving. Add the fact the front door cards rattle when the bass is set to anything over 2! The build quality is appalling. Ford provided me with another brand new Focus ST last week and again the door cards are rattling and the boot has not been sprayed properly meaning my brand new car now needs a respray! My advice walk away, but if you don’t then make sure you check it and check again before you leave the dealership.

Just The Driven I own one! The first had steering failure twice nearly causing me to crash, the second I collected last week and the boot hadn’t been sprayed correctly and has to go back to the dealers.
