🇭🇷 That night, the beginning of summer 1991, we disembarked from the bus we used to get to the hill above Novigrad. I asked my comrade "Where did we come to, what is this in the dark behind the wall?". He answered, "It's the Novigrad cemetery." "Yes," I said, "so that they don't have to carry us far when we die in this crazy war ". That night we slept in the forest, the rain poured down like a cable, my comrades cursed loudly and were angry because we got wet without raincoats and of tent wings. Someone shouted "shut up, the Chetniks are 200 meters away, they will hear you" Lightning was tearing the sky, I lay down on the grass and covered my gun with my body so that it wouldn't get wet and my ammunition wouldn't get wet. For the next 3 days we stayed in the abandoned Kondal factory while Yugoslav military planes flew over the Novigrad Sea and rocketed Kruševo where were our comrades.
After 3 days we got into the trucks and went to the front line one night.
In Zadar, people were swimming and sunbathing, it was summer, and the war was still far from them.
Some people said at the time, "What a war, you couple of fools are fighting there"
At the end of the summer, when the war came to Zadar, they looked in amazement and fear at "us, couple of fools" who were fighting somewhere there far away.🇭🇷
