We (Malte and Franzi) are currently on a long trip to anywhere it leads us... We started about one month ago in Berlin and still don't know when we'll be back. At the moment we are exploring the south of Tunisia and just tested the limits of our 2wd Düdo (in the meanwhile converted to an L508d, enginge from 1968) in the Sahara desert. It went surprisingliy well, but we just didn't want to leave without digging at least a little and not without using our sand ladders :)!

I had a 508 when i lived in southern spain it had twin wheels at the rear though.Extremely reliable and cruised at 55mph.I wishi still had it.True adventure wagon and simple to repair. Best of luck in your travels.

Someone told me the twin rear wheels are problematic in sand - is that the case? I'm not convinced but never tried: Did you drive it in soft sand much? What you reckon?

My rear wheel drive 2012 Ford Transit box van get stuck if there is a small snowball in front of one tire when driving in snow, sand in my experience is even worse... But still I love the rear wheel drive ;)

sehr cooles video!! darf man fragen mit was für reifen ihr unterwegs seid? habt hinten ja keine zwillingsbereifung mehr, oder? bin auch am überlegen meine 407 mit neuen reifen umzurüsten und eventuell auf die zwillingsbereifung zu verzichten...

Hey Ihr beiden, tolles Video! Besonders hat mir natürlich auch euer Düdo gefallen, da ich selbst seit vielen Jahren einen fahre (bis auf Städtekennung sogar mit dem gleichen Nummernschild :-)). Mich würde interessieren, wie ihr oder wer den Umbau auf einen 508 realisiert ha(b)t und welche Felgen und Reifen ihr für die Einzelbereifung genommen habt. Vielen Dank und bleibt gesund!

Du Malte, bei dieser Singlebreifung, fährst du da mit originalen Felgen und was für eine Spurweite hat man denn dann hinten? Original ist ja bei Zwillingsbereifung hinten die Spurweite kleiner als vorne, aber es wird ja auch die Mitte zwischen den Zwillingen genommen. Wieviel Umdrehungen darf denn beim TÜV/AU der OM314 Motor über seine originalen 3800/min hinausdrehen? LG

Toll ich war im März da unterwegs mit meinen Land rover war sehr schön die Wüste. Aber allein da rein zu fahren richtig mutig =) leider konnte ich mit meinen auto nicht mehr zurückkommen da es keine fähren mehr gab. Abwarten auf Oktober möchte jemand finden der dann auch in die Wüste fährt. Alleine mag ich nicht mit nur einem Fahrzeug.

I have done several thousand kilometer in Sahara with my 407D dudo. Double tires rear, less profile, less air in tires and you are easy able to take 5m dunes with a speed of 25km/h with less horsepower 3.5T Float over the sand!!

Und wenn ich nicht irre, dann schleift ihr da unsere alte Hecktrittstufe durch den Sand, oder? Schön, dass die noch so genutzt wird! Wir haben jetzt die gleiche, aber in klappbar, was im Gelände auch durchaus Vorteile hat. Besten Gruß!

So ein schönes Auto. Darf ich fragen wie hoch es ist inkl. dem Hochdach? Ich habe einen 814DA und will den umbauen. Weiss noch nicht ob ich einen Alkoven bauen soll oder nicht. Dadurhd wird das Fahrzeug sehr hoch.

Oh - man. Und ich hab mal vor 20 Jahren die Namib durchfahren... Ihr seid ja schon mutig. Wie macht ihr das mit Diesel und Wasser? In Namibia konnte man sich auf ein wenn auch sehr dünnes Tankstellennetz verlassen. Und ich hatte genug Trinkwasser dabei. Aber da wo ihr seid, wo kann man denn da regelmäßig tanken? Denn unter solchen Belastungen wird der alte Motor sicher noch viel mehr verbrauchen. In der Wüste ohne Treibstoff und ohne Trinkwasser liegen bleiben, könnte spassig werden. Oder hattet ihr Reservekanister dabei?

Hatten 150 Liter Wasser und 120 Liter Treibstoff dabei, aber ja, ich glaube in der Zeit haben wir unseren Verbrauchsrekord aufgestellt. Müsste nachschauen, aber 20 Liter werden es gewesen sein. Wir sind nicht ganz so tief in die Wüste gefahren und man findet dort unten immer Mal wieder Abenteuerer. Die Namib zu durchfahren vor 20 Jahren klingt wahrlich abenteuerlich, mit welchem Auto hast du das gemacht? Viele Grüße
