I was Stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska and after sometime I got re-stationed to Ft. Drum in New York. I took that opportunity and drove the whole thing (I think about 3600 Miles). What a life changing trip that was. I knew it was a once in a life time opportunity. Needless to say I did the whole trip in my car by my self and it was still amazing. This was back in 2004 before GPS using only road maps stopping at gas stations and speaking with locals was all part of the grand experience. I saw so many cool things. Glad you guys got to do a similar trip.

That does sound like the adventure of a lifetime...and with PAPER maps! Chatting with locals is one of our favorite things to do in our travels - we get a much better feel for a place. Cheers!

Ми також купалися в тому хот спрін. Ночували в Ток. Медведі на уздоріжі - це "вишенька на торті"! Вони дуже розумні. Добавлю, що ми цього року також були на Алясці. Чикаго - Аляска. Бажаю вам , як ми, маршрут аж до Прудо Бей. Фантастика. Слава Україні! You guys are just amazing. Travel is a gift of civilization. I envy the Stone Age people and Us. We can migrate and travel. Your route was similar to ours. We also bathed in that hot spring. We spent the night in Tok. Bears on the road are the icing on the cake! They are very smart. I will add that we were also in Alaska this year. Chicago - Alaska. I wish you, like us, a route all the way to Prudhoe Bay. Fantasy. Glory to Ukraine!

Thanks so much! We loved the drive up - it was long for sure but there was just so much to see and do. And the hot springs were the perfect pick-me-up to get us all the way to Alaska 😄

Hey Chris and Sam! Love, love, love your vlogs. So glad you’re doing this now because we get to see more of your adventures than on Instagram! The kids and I particularly love the bloopers at the end 😂 They love seeing Aunt Sammy and Uncle Chris being silly. from where i live in north fl from eastpoint my hometown its over 4500 miles i have driven it three times just beautiful lots of wildlife of all kinds we were going to fairbanks

Never heard of Scotch fried eggs. Looked yummy and delicious. Curious why you two were rushing up the Alcan, especially since you had an RV and weren't limited by campgrounds and hotels for places to sleep. Most RVers I met were driving 3-4 hours max per day. There is so much history and outdoor scenery to enjoy on the drive up. Plus, talking to locals is the best part. The visitors centers have a wealth of information. I probably spent an hour at each one.

The Scotch egg was surprisingly delicious! We definitely didn’t want to rush up to Alaska, but since we only had a week off from our normal full-time jobs, we had to get back to civilization and cell coverage quickly :(

You can totally get Nanaimo bars in Washington. Lots of bakeries in the Seattle make them. One of the best imported sweets from Canada.

My west Indian culture has a similar appetizer with the egg in the center and cassava ( yuka) and potato ball deep fried. For a moment, I thought thats what it was. Thanks for Sharing this amazing adventure....and being able to see some wild life is great.

I recommend a stop and soak at Liard Hot Springs. Bring bear spray for everyone in your party.

We did the hot springs and loved it - sooo refreshing! Check out 7:15 of the video for our time there. While we didn't see any bears, we did have to pass through the electric fence and read/heard numerous stories of encounters :)

Yes! But even better, you can keep them at room temperature or in the fridge for a bit.

Great video! You mentioned several times that you were way ahead of schedule. How many days did you plan for the trip up? Also, was the Valdez stopped always planned or opportunistic?

Thanks! We had planned on driving it in 8 days so when we arrived early, we were blown away. We had only planned on quick stop in Valdez so we were pumped to arrive early!

I would like to visit Alaska (from Vancouver) in November but I can see no boats crossing or guided tours at this period of time. Also I have no idea if visa is required

Yes, visiting Alaska at this time of year (while probably stunningly beautiful) is likely pretty tough. Especially on some of these more commercialized tours that are around when the tourists are there in the summer. Hope you can find something. As for visa, it should be just like visiting the lower 48 states and you shouldn’t need anything special if you’re a Canadian citizen (think Canadians can visit for up to 6 months in a 12 month period) - though definitely check with your Canadian authorities to confirm.

It's actually Heart Lake since it looks like a heart on the map. If you watch the video again at minute 3:09, you'll see their official campground sign. We were very lucky not to see any bears there. Safe travels!

Hi. It's a different Heart lake. The one I know is about 45 minutes north of Prince George directly beside Hwy #97on the right hand side. My HART Lake has a rail line that you have to cross over by foot to get to the lake. Parking lot, cross tracks, at lake. All within 100 feet. Crappy place to camp with train noise. Have a good day!!
