In this episode of The Little Things, we are going to take a look at many of the figures and figurines depicting everyone's favorite Dark Elf (or Drow) Ranger, Drizzt Do'Urden. Created in 1988 by R.A. Salvatore and first appearing in the novel The Crystal Shard, Drizzt has become one of the most popular characters in the Dungeons and Dragons Universe. This year we celebrate his 35th anniversary and look back at all the great figures that have been created of one of the most famous fantasy and sword and sorcery characters. From Ral Partha and Rawcliffe's Pewter Figurines in the 1980s to the current Action Figures by Hasbro, we'll take a look at them all. So strap on your scimitars, grab your panther figurine, and be prepared to not be appreciated, as we remember one of the greatest fantasy characters every created, Drizzt.

Thanks! Those little guys bring back a lot of memories. I remember when Hobby Stores had huge walls full of them. I never could paint them very well, so I ended up just using them as they were. I still appreciate the sculpting on them. Thanks for watching!

That's pretty rare. I received that as a gift years ago. I still have the figurines but I don't have the box anymore. The dragon is great. Thanks for watching!

This video dropped at exactly the right moment; was having a kind of bummer day. You had me laughing, commenting to myself "oh, mm-hm", and re-winding and pausing to check out the cool items! Would you mind further comment or questions about some of the stuff? Thank you, as always, so much!!

I timed it that way. Forget your bummer day and bask in the cool breeze that is Drizzt Do'Urden. This is a bit of an obscure one, but one that is dear to my heart. I am not an expert, but I will elaborate in any way that I can. And again, thank you for watching!

This'd be Part 3; I'll try to be succinct. I will never, ever forget the English translation of that insult that Wulfgar was always shouting in the novels. Barbarian taunt ability. :) Um. Yeah. Some of those book covers are weird. I had no idea there were so many. I was an avid gamer back in the day and HUGE Forgotten Realms fiend. My current roommate is even an old high school and gaming buddy from back then! It goes without saying that we have lots of cool stuff to talk about (He' watching this video *as I type this* by the way). Salvatore and Greenwood were the best authors of the novels in my opinion, though I didn't get a chance to read everyone. (No question in my mind that Dragonbait's species was heavily inspired by *or was* the troglodyte monster, though I've never seen anyone say that.) Drizzt was SO popular that when it came time for a new character, everyone had to be Drow. It got to the point where'd I'd be, "Oh my GOHD, guys, try to create something original!" And then eventually, had to instate the house rule that if a character was slain and had to be replaced, the new character *must* represent a species and class local to whatever area the party was in. "No, there are no Drow living in this town!" As I mentioned, I do still collect toys and *all* I get right now are D&D figures. I havent even played an RPG in several years. Your 80's fantasy vid helped cement my current interest, about equally with seeing the cameo of the Saturday morning kids in live action. The REAL kicker here, see, is the synergy between favorite game and novelization, cartoon, and vintage action figure characters, all existing in the same space. It's an old though very obscure and niche discussion and I mean I am ALL IN. Now we get to have the characters from the really great movie living in this space too. Displacer Beasts from Hasbro Pulse just arrived yesterday. Totally annihilated my "play money" budget for the month!!😃👍 There are some weird coincidences in my life in which many of your videos are involved. I want to say, "What are the odds!" And then I answer, "Obviously pretty high!" Because you cover *all* areas of nostalgia from the time, and simultaneously, many of my loved ones know how important a lot of these things are to me. I don't mind elaborating if that's of interest. My effort at brevity once again fell very.... long. I do just want to say, during our last "comments conversation", well, if you *do* ever decide to give this up, it's not worth your time or financially viable or it's just time to move on, then, that's what you need. And that's completely understandable. You've brought back countless joys to at least this one lil ol' soul, and struck chords of severely different kinds too, at times, that are just as valuable. Even if I never see from or message with you again, you will always have my profound gratitude. What you've created thus far -- even if never expanded on -- will always have worth without measure. I hope you and [co-narrator] are happy and healthy and safe. ~CJ

I remember when everyone just HAD to play a drow thanks to Mr. Salvatore's books. Suddenly drow were everywhere. Must have been a hard time for those folks in The Realms 😜. I haven't played in decades, but all of the media and merchandise brings back great memories. And thanks for your kind words. It's strange to think that this channel could have that kind of impact, but I am glad it does. I don't know how long I will do keep doing this. Mostly I just make videos because they are subjects that I want to watch videos about. That, and it gives me something to do when I am stressed about other things. That being said, other responsibilities come up and there might be long stretches between videos and even the time to respond to comments. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment. It really means a lot to me.

Part 2 of my comments then. :) (I thought I'd ask if you mind additional comments etc. because I tend to babble, and, as a second piece equals more channel interaction.) I think the first video of yours I'd seen was the fantasy and barbarian figures. I had a 6" Hasbro gelatinous cube figure I found on the cheap, but after that video I started collecting 6"-7" D&D figures in earnest. They're the only collectibles I've acquired between then and now actually. I just *had* to see what that NECA Warduke was all about, and I regret it not at all. Even my far less nerdy younger brother lit up with nostalgia over that and he dropped some choice approving swear words. Relevance here is, the Drizzt and Gwenhwyvar two-pack was my third D&D figure acquisition. He saw pics of Drizzt and thinking of some of my customs, suggested I make an Elric action figure from him. And ya know.... he's right. I'll get a spare *eventually* and the second version too (that one's available now btw; don't have it yet) and combine parts. We then had a brief but animated discussion on how to paint red eyes and make a big honkin' Stormbringer -- I'm thinking the Soulsword from a Hasbro Marvel Legends Magik. No way I'm diving into that project and being bereft of a Drizzt figure; thankfully in this instance collectibles can fluctuate so greatly in price. I only read two or three of those Salvatore novels back in the day and when the figure arrived it set my roommate and me to happily searching up stuff about him. I think most of the questions evaporated from my brain (which is fine) when I read that the Drizzt subject is dear to you -- that sounds really great; may I ask why?

That Drizzt would make a great Elric. The Soulsword would make a pretty good Stormbringer, with some mods. I think I like Drizzt so much because he was my first real intro into the D&D GAME itself. I had the toys and Endless Quest books and I really liked the concepts, but I was really starting my dive into geekhood in 1988, just in time to take advantage of, and become acquainted with, some big and revolutionary changes, such as Drizzt, Dragonlance, late 80s Marvel and Batman 1989 (among so many others). I think I was looking for characters that really got me "into" D&D, and Drizzt and Wulfgar perfectly fit the bill. I spent a lot of time in Middle and High school with the books and in discussions about them with my fellow nerds and geeks. Like all this stuff, it brings back some really good memories. Now, I am finding that thinking about those times...simpler times...is becoming a good stress mitigation tool. Who woulda known?
