The best app i have used to help me research new and inspiring locations. 99% of any info you need to conduct a flight at any given spot. I really like how places tonpark can be highlighted.

Thanks Ian, I downloaded Drone Scene when I got my first sub 250g DJI. As a pilot I’ve found it to be an invaluable tool for safe responsible flying, it’s only irresponsible people who disregard safe flying bring our hobby into disrespect. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I’ve been using Drone Assist but didn’t like the last major change. I’ve paid for the limited membership of drone scene as I already have BMFA membership, as the National Trust information is really useful around here.

The extra layers, SSSI, council bye-laws etc seem to be available only if you are a paid member, not an associate member. I/m with FPV UK for the public liability insurance, but will probably renew with GADC. FPV UK has Article 16 authorisation which is useful if you have a 249g plus drone, but in all honesty, I've never used that feature, mainly sticking to sub 249g drones

Use Drone Scene All The Time But Have Not Flown My Drone For Months Now Due To Continual Storm Force Winds And Heavy Rain Along The South Coast Due To A Jetstream That Is Now Travelling At Much lower Levels Than It Used Too. However Better Weather Is Now On It's Way I Believe,I Hope.

Big fan of your videos Ian, but this one is a bit misleading - all of the cool ground and airspace overlays that you describe are not available for free, except for the “flying locations”. The ground layers like the shoreline, NT and SSSI, plus all of the airspace overlays are only available for paid members of GADC. I think you should mention that in the video, to be honest.

Yes; you get extra info and functions if you're a paid member, but the basic functions and locatiosn are free

Hi Ian, great info as usual. Just a quick question though, there is a place near me called Penshaw monument , near Sunderland, owned by national trust. On the drone scene map there does not to be any restrictions, however on the gate before you ascend , there is a drone sign with a cross , obviously saying no drones! what does this mean and would I be allowed to use my mini 3 pro to obtain any footage? I am a grey arrows member by the way!

If you type in Penshaw Monument in the search field, it takes you there and shows up Nat Trust owned land quite clearly, so their blanket ban would apply to taking off from their land, but not adjacent to it....

In terms of adding your own recommended flying spots, is there any verification process? i.e. can other Dronescene users go to an existing spot and verify whether it is suitable or not?

By following a link there are discussion points on the grey arrows forum, there you can discus any pros or cons or add extra information. Plus if you highlight a problem the admin team can if necessary edit the original drone scene entry, BUT they will only do that in extream instances.

Hi Ian, thank you for all the videos, really are a great help. Hoping you can help me with a location. Im planning on visiting Nottingham soon for a few days and I have looked on drone assist app and the website and the location is marked red with an inner yellow. I have put a rough location in of the post code and wondered if you could be of great help and explain if I can fly there or not, what I can make out is that I have to get permission from the local airdrome but would like a heads up before hand. I have watched KZfaq videos of the same location with a lot of drone footage but I don't want to be breaking any laws and more importantly cause danger to anyone the post code is NG12 2LU, its the national water sports centre . many thanks in advance forgot to add, its a mini 4 pro

That location puts you inside the airport restriction zone for Nottingham airport. You could call the tower just before your flight and ask permission, but looking at the map, it's not an error drone, it's a full-on airport

I did this because I genuinely think it's the best site out there, and did a favour for Rich Ping Spike as the new Fly App update seemed to be remarkably similar to the existing Drone Scene.......
