There were 8 H-Blocks in total. H-6 is still there @1:19, the camera goes up over A & B wing of H-6 @1:42... C & D wing is the other side of the H just out of shot.. H-7 where the escape began was right at the other side of that fence @2:00.. That red brick building @3:00 is the visiting block. The building on the right @5:55 is the prison hospital the building’s on the left are laundry and kitchen areas. That little building @7:28 is a chapel.

There’s so much history at this site. In 1940 RAF Long Kesh was built there. Spitfires, Hurricanes and Seafires were based here, they were used in the Battle of Britain & Battle of the Atlantic during WW2.. RAF Long Kesh was a primary bombing target to be destroyed by the Luftwaffe. In 1971 the site became a detention centre for Irish political prisoners, (Most were interned without trial) The site was secured with miles of barbed wire fence and British Army watch towers. Prisoners were housed in old Nissan huts that used to sleep the RAF. In October 1974, Republican prisoners set fire to the camps. There were many escape attempts from the site involving tunnels under the site. By 1976 the infamous H-Blocks were built. 10 Republican prisoners died on Hunger Strike at the site in 1981. There were many breakout attempts from the H-Blocks including 38 Republicans escaping in 1983. In 1997 Republican prisoners killed sectarian LVF leader Billy Wright in the prison using two smuggled in handguns. All political prisoners charged of offences before April 1998 were released the same year under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement.

Great footage. I visited the site, a number of years ago, they had not long started the demolition and the H blocks were still up. I would have loved to have seen the old compounds. The place is living history, but hopefully we will never see the likes again.

it could easily be seen as a sad reminder of how much we just can't get along as humans, let's hope for a future where we don't need places like this anymore, thank you for the very professional done footage!

I was there over 20 years ago as a squaddie not a prisoner , doing security on the place . It was a miserable fucking depressing place and I was on the outside so fuck knows how they felt who was in there . For exercise we would run around the outside of it always expecting some twat would take a shot from the fields . Good footage by the way

Is there any of the H Blocks Left I would love to see it. Who or where would you contact
@danielkieran14273 жыл бұрын
One H block remains at the site, H7 from which the republican prisoners escaped has been demolished. The site is completely closed to the public and seems to be under the protection of G4S Security. I asked the gaurd today if any organisation or entity did visits or tours and was told that nobody operated such events and hadnt done so in years. I hope this helps.

I help out at the aviation society on the site and the security is pretty tight, especially where the prison is concerned. I have been inside a few times, once on a guided tour and the other times just through an open door when work was being done inside. You were very lucky when you dropped the drone down into the main access road as there is wire strung across to stop helicopters landing, you can just about see the wires in the footage (they have plastic balls on them).
@andy-yo5gn6 жыл бұрын
About the wires! The live stream to my mobile device was not in a high enough resolution to even see those wires and yes i was extremely lucky that the drone did not clip them or getting it back would have been a serious problem!! It was only until i watched the footage back i was stunned how i managed to miss them!! P.S you are a very lucky guy to have had a tour of the blocks, i'd love to see inside. Gaining access was my original goal until i realised it's a prison at the end of the day! I did have methods in place to be able to get into the yards without breaking and entering with climbing equipment but i decided i'd put the drone to work instead, probably for the best! Thanks for your comment

The small round building the drone passes at the startn right at the perimeter is the church where many prisoners went to pray, exchange sceal or snout, or even tied the knot.

One block is kept ready to go if needed That's why its guarded and kept as working heating water etc. I spent 10 years 4 months 6 days of a 204 year sentence in there Nothing like maghberry Bush or Roe where the prisoners are kept today The place was an eduction centre The whole place should of been kept and turned into a full museum No other prison like it in europe Not sure o the world as im not allowed in certain countries

You need to slow it down, your drone movement are too jerky and so are your camera movements, by slowing it down you will get much smoother footage that will look so much better you don't need to go full stick for everything. I have done my own and it is by no means perfect but you'll see how it is a lot smoother and with a lot less jerking motion. OK I didn't take mine right down because there is anti helicopter lines and while my drone does have anti collision sensors I don't know how well they work with thin cables and I wasn't willing to risk my £1500 drone. So in that respect you have more gut than I did but all in all good footage.
