This is an 8ball game that should've been a win, but the player's ego caused him to lose. a smarter (winning) shot was right in front of his face.
NOTE: I did not recreate the setup very accurately. In the original game there wasn't an open side pocket shot. Neither of those two stripes had an open pocket.

It's about winning not about looking cool"...good attitude 👍🎱

Yeah, and the better a player gets, the harder it is to not want to just look cool. That's why so many players go for low-percentage world-beater shots....they want others to say, "Damn! Nice shot!" But too often we hear, "That was close dude...good try." And then comes the loss.

Gospel truth. I see this in too many league matches as well. The other all too common error is usually ball in hand. Sadly. Ego dictates a BIG draw shot when a rolling ball could have fallen right on the shot line. 😮

I believe that sometimes the only way a person sees the shot in the moment is that one type of way. But it's not always ego and it could be other things. 1. Not having confidence in being able to execute the run-out. 2. Simply didn't see the other alternative 3. Not taking the percentage into account in the first place. Altot of instructional videos don't show how many failed attempts at running out with the use of breaking up balls. And that percentage is almost 90 percent of these videos. 4. The stigma attached to using a safety in 8ball with many lower level players and a few higher level players. Players sometimes say the use safety play is for players that can't runout or lack the ability to run out period. I could list many more reasons that alot of players don't usually use safety play at all. But ultimately the only person that truly knows is the player himself. Well I almost forgot about the number one thing and that is. A player doesn't even practice safety play at all. Might sound crazy but ask around.

From the example looks like the 12 goes maybe if his situation was different then a safe would make sense

Yeah, I didn't have the situation setup exactly how it was. There was no shot in the side. I should've paid attention to my setup a little better.

This is my biggest issue, I have successfully broke out clusters so many times and now I am on a 2 year losing streak and I can't stop.

Dealing with clusters can be tricky. Most players just blindly plow into the cluster and hope to get a shot. And they either get lucky or they don't. Winning more often requires not relying on luck or hope. It's good to have an insurance ball before going into a cluster. An insurance ball is simply a guaranteed shot that you know you'll have after breaking up the cluster. Also try to pinpoint exactly where you want the cb to strike the cluster. The more you do this the better you train your mind to just see where and how to break clusters apart and get the results you want more often.

Maybe he was just having a bad day, and didn’t see the safety?

That happens. But more often than not it's ego that causes us to lose. We go for too many low percentage shots, or we rely on luck too often.

Couldn’t he have just taken 12 in the side?

I may not have set it up exactly as it was. But yes, the way I placed the balls it certainly looks like the 12 goes in the side. From where I was sitting the other stripe was blocking a full hit on the 12. But that's a good point to make... Use your legs and your eyes and look for all available options.
