@@ohaidenny9852 i totally agree. She can always go back and do the intense therapy if she slips.. But after "graduation" this next week. She will. Go in once a week for "aftercare". She's only 21..and has suffered all her life.. It got so bad she was a regular at the local mental health facility with suicidal thoughts and ideation. This was our last ditch effort which really should have been our first form of therapy.. Everything else really didn't help and she suffered severely for far too long.

i agree with this totally. Mental illness is a serious thing. As bad as any physical illness or worse depending. My husband often says to me 'if you break your leg, it will heal over time and you are fine but mental illness just cant be healed the that way' i 100% agree with that statement. I agree more people are open about mental illness but i still feel the majority of the world views it as a bad thing that shouldnt be talked about and there are still far too many people who think mental illness is brought on by the person suffering from it. People still say to just get over it. It is total BS and i really would like the stigma on mental illness to vanish. Its as real as any other illness. Good luck all. :).

Him saying, "I'm not satisfied" is actually very accurate. Current medical theory on OCD suggests that the pathways that acknowledge and are satisfied by an action are severely under-active, making it seem like you haven't done anything (so you have to do the task multiple times).
@littlehonu

Katy Goerss that’s true. What it feels like is that it wasn’t done RIGHT. But for me, when that happens then when I have to do it again to make it “right”, that only makes it worse bc I just did the thing another time so it’s adding another layer on. So then I’m conflicted internally about that and there’s no way to fix that so it’s just I have to do another thing to then fix that part.

I couldn’t leave the house without all my clothes matching for fear that people would think I was disgusting. I would shower and wash my hands constantly because I didn’t want to be considered the smelly girl at school. I suffered from anorexia at the same time until I almost died. Cognitive therapy was my saving grace and medication. Obviously I will always live with it but I have learnt what my ticks and triggers are and now I can argue with those over powering thoughts and enjoy my life and realize I made it through something that was very debilitating.

Heidi Luchterhand I believe this “shrinking” of the bilateral lobes continues unless neuroplastic-exercises are performed. Usually therapy is done with exposure, so I wonder if the exposer therapy (great prognosis) actually enlarges these lobes or if it calms overactive synapses.

I wish Dr Phill and other shows discussed Pure O to raise awarness of it, but sadly it isn't as juicy as the tradional OCD, everyone loves to watch a nut collecting junk or turning off light switches. Someone having to clean a particular table 40-50 times because it's just not clean enough is definitely a sign of OCD etc etc. Among other things. Going into someone else's house and being unsettled and unable to handle their chairs being slightly turned. That sort of thing can be seen as a neat freak, but if it is in an extreme way it can most definitely be OCD.

I'm a nurse and I used to work in substance abuse/psych. I also have suffered anorexia which for me was a type of OCD, and I once went to treatment at a facility that treated mental illness and/ or eating disorders (so you could be there for just mental illness and not have an eating disorder some facilities you have to have an eating disorder primary diagnosis) and there was this girl who had SEVERE OCD. It was my first time seeing someone with it that bad, quite like this man though she had different ticks and my heart broke for her. I don't know whatever happened to her but I hope she is better and well now. Since then, my career as a nurse like I said above I worked in substance abuse/ psych (we were a dual diagnosis facility) at one point for a few years and I saw some bad OCD. I think OCD is one of the more difficult mental illnesses to treat and handle because if you get in the way of their rituals, it can be very bad. Typically, at first you do not want to interrupt their rituals because you know, they just left home and settling into a new place is difficult, so they're triggered to do even more rituals. It can take a long time before they're comfortable enough to start working on interrupting that. It's very sad because they fear something awful will happen if they do not do them, they know logically that isn't true, but they have these intrusive thoughts & fears surrounding it.

It's tough if you don't get help and I wish the best to everyone who has to experience either side. I truly feel for them both. Him for not being able to control it, knowing it frustrates others but he can’t stop. And her for probably trying to be supportive but it being so hard not to get upset at him. Both feelings are understandable. I have minor OCD. I’ve had to work really hard to try and not let it effect our lives. I was diagnosed with bi polar and Panic disorder as well so I understand the feeling of being stuck in a situation that you can’t get out of sometimes. It’s like someone pushing you into a small room with the lights flashing, no way out, water filling the room while hearing a never ending high pitch noise that you can’t shut out. I also understand living with someone who you try and be supportive of, and non judgmental but some days it’s so hard to just stay civil. We are all imperfect, we all lose patience, we all have a breaking point. To anyone who goes through anything regarding mental illness, just know that there are ppl who understand how you feel. Even when your feeling something that just can’t be put into words. I understand that. I really hope the best for this couple. I hope he’s able to find inner peace and I hope they don’t lose each other.

damn i can relate and it hurts when you see how it affects other people. like not only are you not yourself but your suffering the pain already as well as for someone else. when you start relying on your significant other it takes a tole on your relationship when all you want to do is break free. all of this attraction creates depression and I hope that he breaks free, mental illnesses tear apart your soul, and the only way to move on is to seek help. this is because you cant rely on yourself anymore to pull yourself through a situation and you need more than yourself to be the best person you can.

This breaks my heart. Building shame around a mental illness just adds to the pain of the patient. In my family we're very open about it, treat it like any other chronic illness. I don't tolerate negative speech over my family members. The old adage 'if you don't have anything nice ( constructive) to say don't say anything at all ' Teachers doctors everyone are all on the same page . They are a human being first , they have an illness that needs to be addressed as well. Patience ,understanding and unconditional love goes a long way. Along with time alone screaming in the car, an occasional glass of wine and a good therapist!!
