Munchausen by proxy is very difficult to prove. I worked in a pediatric office where we suspected this was the situation and at the time all we could do was document document document! It’s a horrible thing and very difficult for all.

I survived a mother with it. If a doctor questions or doesn’t give a diagnosis she was seeking we would just end up doctor hopping.

Why can't the doctor file a police report and notify DCFS?

This happened to me as a child by my mother and now my mother is doing the same thing to my child as my mother legally stole my child and has alienated her from me. Doctors, cops, ect don't believe me because my mother has manipulated everyone into believing her lies. My mother has my daughter on drugs and is making up false mental health problems and I don't know where to turn.

They left it to my passive codependent father to take care of and checked in maybe once. Never offered me any counseling or anything. Obviously the abuse continued.

My mother in law abused her daughter like this. She was born to her at a very late age. She was told she would never be able to have children due to a hormone problem and fed hormones - but now has two children since finally breaking free. She had her hymen cut under anaesthesia, was given herbal remedies, painkillers, a back op at age 12, told she was allergic to almost everything, had a Rife doctor who gave her countless enemas and kept under seclusion.

I don’t think there’s a name for the abuse that I survived, beyond narcissistic abuse. I was abused and basically held captive for 43 years (not a typo - forty three years). However, it was kind of the opposite of this in some ways, while also being MBP at other times. I was always told that I was a hypochondriac, and that I was making things up, attention-seeking. I had very little medical care. I’ve been on Disability since about age 27 because of fibromyalgia and severe depression and anxiety. I DO have several major chronic illnesses, however the primary one - a genetic disorder - wasn’t diagnosed until I was 46. My mother made me believe that I was faking my pain and all the other symptoms. She put me through forced, hard physical labor that has permanently damaged my body. She acted shocked and blamed me for “never telling her” that I actually did have severe chronic pain - even though I was taking morphine every day (prescribed by my doctor) and she knew it. She made me believe that I had conned the system into getting Disability benefits. The whole situation only benefited her, in so many ways. Even though my illnesses and pain are indisputable now, I still struggle with medical imposter syndrome because of her abuse.

I never thought of that. My parents hated taking me to the doctor. Mainly because of the costs. I learned to quickly shutup about pain. I was also a gymnast and coaches encouraged this sort of behavior of “sucking it up”.

Having had my family accused of this, I would really appreciate it if people would recognise just how rare this actually is! My mother has only ever done what was in my best interest. I have multiple, hard to diagnose chronic illnesses. I can’t eat, use a wheelchair and often am so tired that I require my parents to speak for me. I have been starved and abused by so called medical professionals because of suspected FII

Ylena Green I would imagine they would have had some sort of info to accuse anyone of that. They can’t just assume at first glance. They really have to document and document and document more. If that’s not what is happening in your family that’s perfect but I’d rather drs be checking when they think something is happening, then turning a blind eye. Maybe if someone had checked on this girl or gypsy rose things would be different for them ya know?

Kelley Robles it’s not what happened to my family and unfortunately it not what happens in far too many situations. Yes having people be aware of it is good because when it happens it’s awful but what it does to a family when they are falsely accused can be awful. I know far too many other people who have been accused as a way to distract higher ups when parents point out that drs are effing up or when they complain or even just when drs don’t understand things and feel vulnerable.

Chloe Majlinda we are in the process of involving lawyers to begin court proceedings but it’s taken us a lot longer than we planned as my health doesn’t make it easy to engage in such a stressful situation. And they starved me by withholding the correct nutrition -knowingly-. The abuse is harder to talk about and privare

@@kelleyrobles1961the biggest issue, especially in Florida, where Dr. Randell Alexander works closely with DCF, is the prevailing training for investigators is, "if you suspect it, it's true." I adopted severely abused sisters in 2014 after fostering them since 2012. A lot of abuse victims seek out unhealthy relationships, even as children, either as a comfort or as a part of difficulty with forming healthy attachments. In 2020, the younger sister had been receiving therapy for a diagnosis of PTSD with dissociation for two years, and the sessions with her counselor appeared to reveal Dissociative Identity Disorder with 50+ identities. With all of the skips in awareness and undiagnosed dyslexia, I had been homeschooling her, as well as her sister. Taking care of children with such strong needs and no relief can burn a person out. Just as her therapist left her company, so my daughter didn't have a medical expert to testify, the mother of one of the girls' friends accused me of Munchausen by Proxy. MbP is supposed to be a physical abuse situation, requiring immediate removal and termination of parental rights, so the girls were removed. All of the professionals on the DCF side got caught up in this weird drama of being part of a Munchausen case. It was disgusting, because: *my daughter wasn't on any medication and had never had surgery. *I had years worth of emails and texts from both her counselor and the school describing symptoms and treatment, showing I was always following medical advice, she didn't switch counselors, and the school witnessed symptoms without me around. (All are against the very premise of Munchausen by Proxy). *I didn't go to Dr. Appts. The constant strain of this, with new personalities popping out angry every week, made it so Dr. appts. were one of the few times I could relax. It didn't matter. They made me see a psychologist, two separate levels of therapist, three separate family therapists and a psychiatrist... none of the individual therapists saw any signs of Munchausen by Proxy. It didn't matter how much proof I provided, because the girls had transferred their attachments and lied to keep from coming home. When I consulted a civil rights attorney, I was told FL law makes DCF bulletproof. Unless they killed a child, they couldn't be held fiscally responsible for breaking the law. We waited, staring into empty zoom visits (COVID) three times weekly for 30 minutes each time, while the girls were being taught to block us out of their lives. After 2 years, and seeing my daughter crack when she tried to reconcile her past family with her current family, we decided it would be best for the girls if they weren't pulled away from the foster family to which they seemed to have bonded. We signed over rights. Within a month, the foster family, who had actively destroyed our relationship with the girls, put the kids back into the system. Last I knew, both were in separate placements, one in violent group homes. My point: Munchausen by Proxy accusations are laid at the feet of good, devoted moms all the time. The training program FL used openly claimed that Munchausen moms appear to be truly incredible moms. It directs DCF to grab the kids without explaining the problem, so the parents don't have time to contact an attorney or a reporter. Those accusations were proven false within six months, but we never got our children back. What we need to focus on are false claims and the kids destroyed by them, because I'd almost guarantee that number is much higher than the actual victims. I was a volunteer disability advocate for my school district and a therapeutic foster parent, and they treated me like I was the worst abuser ever created. Only once did any of the family counselors contact either of my older children who lived with us during when all of the steadily increasing accusations would have occurred. They didn't really want the truth.

In some ways I think my own mother had this, she would take me to the doctor over and over. I was just a skinny kid and she thought i had AIDS because back then people thought you could get it from touching a door handle.

It is a compulson caused by their own mental split personality. Dr Amal Beaini of Leeds NHS is a textbook example of Munchausens Syndrome by Proxy who exhibits the prime symptons of MSbP - disdain of the law, secret delight in harming others by ordering unnecessary surgeries, cunning in the method of harm, recruiting of legal advicsors and other staff to cover up the criminal acts.

I had an illness that was barely known when I was a child. The doctors wouldn't believe my mom so she seemed help abroad and I was cured. I'm scared to think what would've happened if I was given "a few months in a protected environment" like separating kids from their parents for such a long time was no big deal..oh gosh. The CPS needs to be trained on this in order to not unnecessarily separate kids from parents!

Unfortunately, a lot of people get misdiagnosed with it. The more people become familiar with the condition, the more the can't wait to see it in someone else. Be very careful. There are still a lot of diseases out there that doctors don't have a handle on and this could happen to you.

CAS need better training, and need to stop being so quick to take a child because of history on first time parents. I have no trust, faith, or respect for CAS, i am a child of the system, and CAS they do tend to go after adults who have already been in the system. CAS is the same angency, just in Canada we call the "children's Aid Society aka CAS)
