Managed to find these in a 2E and they are a GODSEND. It is so hard to find running shoes that fit, especially any that are slightly more high performance or that look nice. If I can find another shop in the UK selling them in 2E, I'll be snapping them up in an instant.

Ah good they work for you. Did you try the regular width one (as I have here) and, if so, think were still too narrow for you? Can I ask what your shoe size is? I do wonder if the scaling in the very large sizes (as I take) is a bit off.
@pickelbarrelofficial1256

I didn't get to try the regular ones as the purchase was very much an impulse decision, but I don't think I could go any narrower than the 2E tbh. I have exceptionally wide feet so I don't doubt thay those with slightly more normal proportioned feet might find them too wide, but for me, they are perfect. I'm on the smaller end of size 9, so the 9 on these JUST fit but I would go up to a 9.5 if I was to buy another pair which I almost certainly will. I also had a pair of 880 and 1080s in v12 both of which I had to go 4E extra wide, so its a real relief that the 2E in these fits. Definitely not for everyone but a real breath of fresh air for us hobbits.@@TimGrose

Agreed, first run in mine yesterday and yes - really wide, not had to pull those laces so close in a shoe for a long time!!

Yeah all rather curious. Not as if the foam is silly soft and unstable either - well for me at least. Seems a long time ago now since I even picked up an extra narrow NB shoe in the early 90s. The 850 NBX. I had 13 pairs in the end! They largely have given up doing narrow fits these days.

😂😂 I laughed out loud at your little nods to Aubrey and Eddbud!! Those guys do wash their shoes before putting them on air though!!😂 They sure are a good looking shoe imho! Personally I never found the old Fuelcell soft at all, not a fan personally, but was thinking recently I should give them another go now I’ve progressed so much as a runner!! My guess is that these will last longer than the Mach 6 unless Hoka has seriously upped their game this time out!!

I need to get some tips on how to clean shoes for sure and I don't even go on a towpath. I think there must be a lot of different FuelCell formulations. TBF it is quite a good "balance" in these Rebels. Yeah Hoka don't tend to last too long for many runners. That said I haven't yet liked one enough to actually "wear out" as it were.

@@TimGrose Yeah you must be right for Fuelcell, seems to vary considerably !! For cleaning, I remove the insole and laces, add a little liquid pure soap (I use liquid Soap de Marseille here in France) to half a bucket of warm water and scrub with a nail brush!

Terrible Ben - I had thought these would now be good to join over Martha's or some mud on heels high risk zone. I was "caught" as you saw at start of vid attempting to clean them. Clearly there is a special kind of wipe for more everyday usage that seems to work a whole lot better. Wonder how it is done.

@@TimGrose Correct. Most shoes taper too much and cramp my toes. Wide versions of most shoes end up being to wide through the midfoot for me. I have a narrow heel, high arch, and a wide forefoot. I struggle to find shoes that fit me.
@TimGrose
@TimGrose 5 ай бұрын
@@thewalls7770 yeah i guess it does depend which part of your foot is relatively narrowest. For me I think it is the midfoot so although these Rebel v4 are far too wide for me there "ideally" at least when I pulled in the laces an awful lot, the also roomy toe box is not such an issue as my feet aren't then moving about. That said the wide base of them I feel is just "too much" for me.

I’ve done one session on the track in these they did fine. I’ve got a solid tempo within today’s run, which will be on the road, and I think that’ll tell me more. The marketing gave me serious cause to pause, but I have a wide foot so had to try.

The EddBud sculpting of the midsole that you want to do is what New balance SHOULD have done to this shoe to make it actually a Rebel...
@TimGrose
@TimGrose 5 ай бұрын
Yeah I can understand the need to offer shoes for runners with wide feet but why the even wider outsole with a foam that, to me at least, is not at all unstable. That seems to be the normal reason cited for this current trend for ever wider outsoles. As you say a "Rebel" and a sort of stability shoe does not seem a great "fit".
@marylandflyer5670

The problem I have with the V4 is that it gives you zero back while running. The really soft cushion seems to have little bounce at all. I’ve run 50 miles in mine and I don’t really care for them even though they are really light.
@TimGrose
@TimGrose 5 ай бұрын
Yeah I kind of found that. In a way though the price point kind of suggests that. New Balance want you to spend pretty much double for the Elite v4 which at least "looks" similar but clearly is meant to be far more "super". I don't find the cushion that soft although I think these days our perception of soft and firm has moved a lot from what it was even 5 years ago. What I did find, as I mentioned, was a bit of ground feel under my toes. That said having worn them for about 30 miles over the last 3 days my legs don't feel any worse (or better for that matter) than they might be after say similar runs in an Endorphin Speed.

That’s me done with the Rebel series. The reasons I liked the v2 and v3 are now gone it seems. Well, maybe apart from the lightness. Leaving Torun and heading back home now. An underwhelming Euro champs for me. I guess a calf injury followed by breaking my hand probably didn’t help
@TimGrose
@TimGrose 5 ай бұрын
TBH if you can get over the wide platform they aren't too bad but do feel a bit something and nothing for me. Light yes but just the wrong shape. I'll use them some more but a shoe that may just start to get relegated. As for Torun decent efforts in the circumstances. I've always found it tough when you are against the very best of the best. Kind of have to decide to throw caution to the wind or just try and time trial to a decent performance. TBH if it is a bit like how I feel in the Vets AC 5Ks these days!!!

they run slightly longer than other NB as well. I have a narrow foot. they are are bit wide. Mostly extra upper but I don't have to tie them super tight. Now if you like lots of room in your toes, like it appears Tim does, then I can see where it will be a big problem. Especially with narrow feet as well. For reference I wear 12 US for Rebel v4 and 12.5 for the 1080 v13. Length about the same but Rebel has a looser fitting upper. It's light but feels like daily trainer only to me. Bit softer and more enjoyable than the Novablast 3 for that category.
@TimGrose
@TimGrose 5 ай бұрын
Part of the problem for me is that I get no half size options so these are a US 14 but a US 13 would definitely be too short. I tend to like my midsole completely locked down but don't mind a slightly roomier toe box but most important thing is the length. I did wear a US 13 for years and in hindsight realised were too small although with older age I also think my feet have effectively lengthened as well.

I found the upper uncomfortable around the ankle and stiff all around. Foam under arch was very stiff and felt intrusive. Why would you increase the width/footprint so much as to match the experience to premium trainers without providing a premium experience? Stiff upper that needs to be tamed by lacing quite hard, wide base with hard foam and stripped back ankle collar. This doesn't make sense to me but I guess I'm just not the target for this shoe. I had Novablast 4 to compare them to and Novablast 4 feel as stable/wide but at a completely different level in terms of comfort. Once I'm done with my trainers, I'll probably move on to Novablast 4. I have Novablast 3 and Rebel 3 - they feel completely different and nice for their own separate use cases. To me Rebel 4 right now feels like a cheaper version of Novablast 4. It's like New Balance tried to match the experience of Novablast while at the same time trying to keep it somewhat similar to Rebel line and failing completely at either of these tasks. For the same price, I'll get plush but decently breathable upper, good ankle hold and very stable base with a foam that has some give. There are other shoes for fast stuff so I don't feel I need that from a daily trainer. Also, I don't understand New Balance sizing or rather the shape of the foot they use as a reference. To me they feel short and wide in standard width when TTS based on their size guide. Their fit is even model-based like in the case of SC Trainer V2 where in my case the toe bumper likes to collapse inward and that makes it effectively even shorter. If I size up to get more length, New Balance shoes get even wider so lacing has to counteract that and I get the feeling that my feet move around which causes ankles to push against the ankle collar. I've had this experience in SC Trainer v1, More v4 and even Rebel 3 but at least Rebel broke down a bit and conformed to my feet. Even if I somehow resolve it, I feel that upper starts to bunch up and then I feel defeated. Sorry for the rant, I've been really hyped about new releases from New Balance but after my experience with Rebel V4 adding on top of their other models, it seems this year goes to their competition. Cheers!

Yeah can understand the frustration. A shoe great on paper with such low weight but so wide and then they do an actual wide version. I was certainly a bit wary of my ankles in them but maybe just such an odd shoe shape although not sure one I want to get used. Novablast more obvious easy day shoe. I thought that was a bit wide but nothing on these.

@@viCoN24 ha ha on the 4E. Back in the early 90s NB did a shoe sort of like this for its time not only in narrow B but even extra narrow A. I had 13 pairs between the two. Don’t think will be getting another Rebel v4. Narrow shoes seem a thing of the past which is a bit of a problem if you don’t have wide feet.

I don't feel the Rebel v4 comes up "short" so I would first try your standard EUR size in the Rebel v4. If the standard one is not wide enough see if you can get the actual wide one. A standard Hoka (I recently tried the Mach 6) isn't typically overly wide so a wide Hoka may well equate to a standard Rebel v4 because, as I mentioned, it is incredibly wide for me - more so than anything else I have.
