Im 57 years old. I heard that album for the first time in 1970 at the age of 5. My oldest sister had it. To this day its the best solo ive ever experienced. Bonham is the reason i play. Watching your reaction video brought back so many great memories! Long live John Henry Bonham!

Big band solo for sure. I grew up in the 70's and every time Buddy Rich did a solo on TV, I always had Bonzo's Moby Dick in the back of my mind. The vocabulary is so similar. The thing I love about this generation of rockers that is common, is the carefree style. Taking chances is what makes it exciting! That's the musical journey we are all participating in. In a sense we are rooting him on. And when his imagination delivers something out of left field, it's thrilling. Never once do we hear a series of pre-practiced patterns chained together as in "Look what I can do". His is a story, from delicate to thunderous. And that's what music is. And that's Bonham.

God, that glorious, thunderous sound. It reminds me of the anecdote that Bonzo would go to the studio where Black Sabbath was recording and Bill Ward had to be quite adamant that he couldn't play his drums cuz he knew he'd probably break them.

I truly regret never seeing these guys live. I live a 45, or so, minute train ride from New York and Madison Square Garden. I've seen Queen there twice in the early eighties. Zeppelin played there a few times, 1973 was immortalized in "The Song Remains the Same", and they where there in '75 and '77? Back then getting news of shows and tickets wasn't a mouse click away. You had to find the info, then go wait in line at your local ticket outlet. Some times hard to do if you had to work.

I was going to comment at first with "But there are several versions _with_ video on YT!?", but now I understand why FinesseMuse had chosen _this_ one: Because it's the best one! 😀👍 I was obsessed with the one on Zed Leppelin's 'The Song Remains The Same' album for quite some time, after my Big Bro had played it to me; I was 11 then (in '81) and had just gotten my very first kit: A rather modest Sonor one with just bass drum, snare, hi-hat and a pair of bongos for toms, but it still has been the best Christmas ever for me 😁👍 And I wish you and your Loved Ones a very merry one, Andrew! 😊🎄⭐

Remarkable that such a long solo is so fascinating throughout and maintains such breathtaking intensity. To hear how he has obviously grown from the Albert Hall gig in 69 in 3 years. He was already brilliant then. And it still burns me that Ginger Baker said he couldn't swing. He could rock but he could swing as well.

He was so musical in his drumming and like Zeppelin itself you have no idea where he is going but when he gets there, you are almost demanded by his playing to say "Well, that was cool". This is an incredible album. Seriously, the drumming is mind blowing on some of the tracks. The Patreon members are essentially torturing you with these drum solo picks though. I love John Bonham, and I love his solos, but they stretched on for way too long sometimes, mainly because he was trying to give the rest of the band as much time as they needed to smoke up and bang a couple of lines back stage, which was admirable. If I was gonna suggest anything from this live album, it'd be: Stairway to Heaven (The solo, and the drumming is amazing), The Ocean, and Dazed and Confused (That version is probably the best you'll ever hear in your life).

Been worshipping Bonham for decades. You once asked me what I think Jazz is, if this solo is Jazz then I'm all in. But this is also why I favor Neil Peart. His solos are a bit more interesting, with all the various percussion instruments, music, films, etc. This just keeps going with stuff you've already heard. A lot to say, but it's redundant. But without a doubt Bonzo is legendary and top 5.

How many drum solos have you heard where they "chick chick" the hi-hat (for lack of a better term) almost the entire time? NONE!

I love Bonham's drumming and his solos are great, but I prefer to listen to Neil Peart's solos. They are more entertaining.

CONFUSED! How has a guy your age, not reacted to Pierre Vander Linden? The Dutch drummer from the band we know as Focus? Well this here was his previous band, BRAINBOX from 1969.....listen to his Latin chops, a few minutes into this tune "Sea of Delight" and then his superb DRUM SOLO at around 12:37 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r66SeNyD392vnmg.html

AGREED! Pierre's drumming was ahead of its time. There is a video out there called Pierre Vander Linden drum solos. The 1977 solo is incredible in that compilation. Another drummer i really liked was Bobby Caldwell! Johnny Winter And LIVE, Captain Beyond, Rick Derringer "All American Boy" and Armageddon.... Another guy who had great drum solos, but can only be heard on some bootlegs. I'm sure this old Jackass hasn't heard of him either. Seems too busy looking for "Views" with WELL KNOWN DRUMMERS
