I play with my throne a little high, a little close to the drums, not extreme, with my weight firmly on the center of the throne. I play for 4 hours a night, 3 to 5 times a week with no discomfort at all. honestly, I feel I could play twice as long with no problems. A lower throne always feels like work. If I had to choose a throne a touch too high or a touch too low, I'll take the higher every time. That being said, take 25 seconds before the gig to get it perfect. I never wanna reach for toms and cymbols, I always want a natural rim shot on the snare and I always wanna feel light on my feet like an athlete.

Great subject as always ignored by drummers. For me after sitting adopting 45° angle legs, drums double pedal my back and lower back pain disappeared. Before I use to sit like 70° high trone. Another thing was a drumm " fit " we did (w/ drummer phisooterapist) he showed back bones and disks when we sit using 1/2 rounded trhone to avoid compression legs blood and set spin/disks lower back in position naturally. It worked

Hello Brandon. I am an amateur drummer from Portugal and I am 58 years old and started playing drums when I was about 45. Drumming is a passion of my life, but I never had the conditions to play drums before. It is better now than never!!! Now I do, have my bands, have gigs and also give some lessons. Just to let you know that I discovered your channel for abourt 3 months and your videos have been, and are, a Huge help on my drumming and also help to my students. Thank you for your time and advice on drum ergonomics, they really made me a much better drummer with no injuries and greater playability!!!!! Keep advising us!!!! 🙏💜🥁 from 🇵🇹😎 I just want to ask you one thing: may I send ypu some photos of me on my drumset so that I have yor opinion on my posture? If so, where do I send the photos? Thanks.

This has been on my mind a lot lately, and I've been experimenting with both. Being in the middle does exactly what you say in the video, and I notice I feel more connected with my feet. But when I sit more to the edge, I find that it's eaasier to rest on my sitz bones, which automatically makes the tilt of my pelvis, and then my spine feel "right" in an alignment sense - to the point that my upper body movement feels more mobile. I remember reading a journal article about the connection between posture and scapular mobility and this. I'd imagine I stumbled upon yet another of the infinite tradeoffs that exist with posture, and my solution lies somewhere in the middle between center of throne and edge. (Also I've experimented with my seating position at different heights and different distances from the pedals). I've said it a few times but your channel rules. Thanks for teaching us this stuff and sharing your expertise

Great insights and explanations. I'd love to hear about the other half of the equation when it comes to the angle between the lower leg and the upper leg: the DISTANCE from the bass drum pedals. The height controls the upper leg position, the distance - the lower leg position. Anyways, many advice that one sits farther from the bass drum and brings toms and snare closer but in this position I feel the loss of control and POWER, most importantly, which forces me to lean forward to compensate. Would love the insights on this topic 🤘

Fantastic video.....actually think about this whenever I sit behind my set and fell myself at a 90 degree angle relative to the drum throne spindle. Wonder if I'm hurting my spine.

Could you consider talking about head/neck posture/ergonomics in the future? Thanks as always for the insights.
