You should really make a video on your top ten art house horror movies! I would love to watch that and get some recommendations.

If you are into non-American movies, you might want to look at the following: Metropolis (German sci-fi classic) Nosferatu (German horror classic) World on a Wire (1970s German sci-fi movie that was re-made in the USA during the 1990s as The 13th Floor) Man Bites Dog (Belgian mockumentary/horror drama on a film crew following a sociopathic serial killer) Lilja 4-ever (Swedish film drama about human trafficking and grooming for forced prostitution via the infamous "lover boy method") System Crasher (recent German movie about a traumatized & troubled child misfit) Portrait of a Lady on Fire (French costume play about a stealth picture being painted as an advert to sell off a young woman into marriage with a foreigner against her will)

In fact, my favourite movie of ALL TIMES is "Let the right one in" and I am very happy you mentioned it. "A girl walks home alone at night" is my second most beloved vampire genre film and love it, too. Let ad some things that are needed to be said to understand the deep dystopian message of the movie. Let us start with the title. First I found it strange, almost saying nothing. I talked about this movie with an exile-iranian friend of mine. He explained the movie to me. In the mullah regime of Iran, a girl NEVER walks home alone at night. Such things only do whores or girl that want to be viewed as whores. In fact, the vampire girl never has to hunt for a victim. She simply walks alone the streets at night. Men will certainly try to seduce her, if not even do things much worse with her. So those men are easy prey for a vampire lady in Iran. Another thing I was told is - all those guys take opioides like H or so, because in Iran such drugs are much easier to get then a beer, wine or liquer, what is alsmost impossible and if you are caught - much more dangerous than a needle of H. All people in the movie behave like inmates at a huge prison, they move and act and talk absolutely un-natural and all try to play somebody they are not (James Dean, a boy from the hood, a good father, and even the girl with her tshador playing a pious muslim woman, but a simple scarf would have done it in Iran). The "prison" is located in a double desert - the industrial desert in the midst of a real, natural desert. There is no way out, at least nobody seems to see one or even to be looking for one. The only person who acts normally is the boy in one of the first scenes. Keeping in mind, this movie was made by exile-iranians, opposers of the mullah-regime, living in exile in the US, the message of the film is a gothic, dreadful apocalyptic and dystopian critique of the mullah regime in Iran. I find it important to know this when enjoying the film. If someone from Iran had not explained this to me, I would never have understood it.

The funniest/most interesting aspect of this movie in terms of how it was made: It is technically classified as a foreign film despite that the director is American, and while the setting is Iran, the entire movie was shot in California. It's rather interesting when you look into how the whole movie was made actually (like when I first watched it I was interested to see Elijah Wood's name in the Producers credits). Also, totally with you on that White Lies sequence. I'd actually rank it up as one of my favorite scenes of the decade. And as always, great review.

Wow I didn't realize she was American...super interesting! It does make sense given the American music within.

Yeah, there's no way you could have made this movie in Iran. How did they classify this as a foreign film? Is it just because it was foreign language?

This is one of the best vampire movies ever made. Everything about it being exceptional. I saw it in theaters, when it came out, and it blew me away. The directing and cinematography are absolutely amazing.

What is that for a film with the girl covered in blood against the wall? It sounded like "Darling", but found no movie with that name that could be fitting.

Speaking of foreign movies. Bruh you will love the Rurouni Kenshin live action movies. Watch "The Beginning" first as it is the prequel. Best and most brutal Samurai scenes in history, this dude runs across rooftops and dodges bullets!

I saw it right after seeing Let the Right One In. Idk, I think I like that one better. I woudl have liked for this movie to have just a bit more gore besides the guy's fingers being eaten off. For me it was good and worthwhile for sure but could have been a bit better.

DD got a Netflix recommend for you. Watched last night "I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore". Man, it was so good. Watched it twice in a row. Would love to hear your thoughts on it if you are so inclined and have the time. Elijah Wood has really morphed into a very cool indie actor. Another good one with him is the remake of Maniac which I believe you did see. Peace ✌️

Drumdums Thought it was going to be a series but it's just a movie. Somewhat short too (1:30). When I paused it an hour in to use the bathroom, my roommate said "we've been watching this for an hour? It feels like 10 minutes" and he was right. Did not want it to end. Netflix is killing it with the original content.

Great review of a superb film! Agree with you on vampire flicks: I'm always interested to consume them but, due to YA fiction, they've become incredibly tame and overly-sexualised. A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT was super refreshing. In terms of vampire flicks, have you watched CRONOS? That's another great one.
@DrumdumsMovieReviews
@DrumdumsMovieReviews 7 жыл бұрын
"Refreshing" is a great word for it. I'd almost given up hope on good vampire flicks until this one came along. I've heard of Cronos. Isn't that a Cronenberg film? I'm definitely interested! Thanks brother.

It's directed by Guillermo del Toro; Spanish flick! But Ron Perlman is in it too. It's got quite an emotional core and is very eerie!

@@DrumdumsMovieReviewsGuillermo del Toro. If you are thinking Cronenberg and vampires, you are probably confusing it with his early movie Rabid.

Did not like this one. The character that I felt was the most interesting and who seemed the most real (the drug dealer) didnt have a big enough part IMO. Also thought it was too artsy. I would classify this as a foreign film though since it was shot in ..I think Bakersfield CA or something like that. But I suppose since its set in Iran and they speak Iranian ...eh what do I know. Good review duder.

Yeah I just found out that it was shot in CA. Crazy. It is a weird mixture of filmmaking. I guess it's hard to properly classify it haha.

Not fan of this movie, and now after watching your review, i know why an artsy fartsy horror movie. But i did like the black and white look of the movie. Last month i bought the book Let the right one in for 450din = basically 4$.
