the purpose of edm, is to show the dangerous of the boss because in story, we lose to arlecchino, and all the way the game presents her is just like shes perfect, she got everything control on her hand, which we are no exception, is just like a fly in a spider web, and the boss also have spider design, the another thing is to show a haunted feeling by making it uncomfortable and strangy sth like that, final is to match the characteristic of arlecchino as she has cursed related to outword things which the game always use edm to present it such as the all-devarouing narwhal. So i guess in the future, the game may use more edm as we are getting close to the end game, finding out more about abyss, outside world etc.

Its bizarre how well fitting is the game design quality aspect in every boss theme. I remember the Scaras boss fight where the vocals are strange and you can even say that they are "tone deaf" on pourpose(the arrangment uses diferent intervals to form some tense chords that are used rarely in western music, so they feel very dissonant and even inhuman, but at the same time, Sumeru represents a culture that uses a lot of structures that we don't have in western music as well such as ¼ note intervals, chords that are built with another musical structure in mind, etc. And all that to come with japanese music arrangements and instrumentatiin right after to symbolize his origins, Im just amazed by how well this is made)

I'd always say it very successfully evoke the feeling of "wtf is this? What am I hearing?"

The edm drop feels like that moment she just decides to unleash a bit of the power she kept hidden for a surprise that lets you know she is something that should not even be here. My thoughts go to carpet bonbing the arena and kamehameha-ing your ass repeatedly with perfect hatred khanrian hell energy

I love the edm, but I gotta say, I'm not a fan of it in this video. Like, if Mihoyo decides to invest the effort into making a live performance, they should keep it to as many physical instruments as possible. It would take some creativity to substitute the edm with real instruments, but hey, this is Hoyo-Mix we are talking about and they are known for creativity.

That moment is Arlecchino taking full control of the moment, her power/curse is who she is. The problem is alot of the reactors are not considerate of the story/lore, contextually it makes sense but either they aren't caught up or they rly can't be bothered to know the lore to fully understand. Also I feel like these days EDM is very looked down upon b/c of how cheap it can be made and sounds compared to live orchestra Genshin has prided itself on.

That's what it's written for. Sure, you can focus on one specific part of a piece of art, ignore the rest of it, and judge that one piece, but I wouldn't call that good criticism. That’s something I’ve seen a lot, people don’t like the EDM because it’s “out of place” but when you know her lore, it’s not. So I think personal bias is clouding their opinion, which they are entitled to, but in that cause it’s not “objective” but “subjective,” it just really annoys me to see so many people hating on her theme because they don’t understand what they’re listening to, or why certain things are incorporated. Not that I know everything either, but at least I can keep an open mind about it.

@@NotOnlyAn_Artist It annoys me too. Hoyoverse have been VERY intentional with their music design. I love the EDM and it's out of place with Genshins more traditional music, but thats purposeful. Scaramouche was in a massive ass mech and his music was very heavy loud and electric. Childes is swift and airy. Signoras is very methodical cunning and powerful. Arlecchinos is supposed to represent that behind her kind demeanor that she puts on she's not what she seems to be, by quickly ending the fight when she got even a little bit serious with some unknown mysterious power that doesn't feel right. The EDM in Genshin represents the unknown or something not natural, something to make us feel uncomfortable. In Arlecchinos case it's supposed to make us uncomfortable as whatever the Crimson Moon its the source of Arlecchinos power and it has so much mystery behind it and the wording in Perinheri lets us know it is something to be uncomfortable about. We'll definitely see more of it in the future when we eventually get to Khaenri'ah and the Abyss, and I bet with Columbina her theme will be more mysterious and unnerving, and Capitanos will be powerful expressing how strong he is but is also someone that is well respected and responsible. All of the harbingers themes command the power that they portray but in wildly different ways. I love what they have been doing with their music.

If it were my call, I would’ve toned down the wub wubbing and tied into an over-arching melody more so that it flowed with the rest of the song. Personally, I think the live version is better because you can hear the organ better, and that kind of carries a melody of its own

the use of edm in scaramouches theme was all in and a masterpiece the use here is lacking so it's understandable, I feel like theyre being experimental again but idk enough about music to say that personally I like what they did here, it's not amazing but it was very interesting to hear and I enjoyed it same with narwhal phase 2

Different for me. Scara’s weekly boss theme to me sounds particularly uninspired since I have had a lot of exposure to classical music of East and Southeast Asia, which is where I am from, and also to music in rhythm games (mostly non-western composers). It had no surprising elements to me because I felt like I’ve heard all these musical phrases and composition tricks before, sometimes done even better in the case of incorporating traditional instruments and traditional scales/modes. When the japanese scale comes in for scara theme I just felt bored. Arlecchino’s theme at least was more refreshing with the choice of the lead voice. The edm/electronic effects was a little weird since it feels like it should be used for a kind of black hole vibes and not something like a crimson moon and bloodfire or whatever she was using. Personally I would prefer that they make an edm/distorted version of a quote from beethoven’s moonlight sonata 3rd movement. However, I also get the aesthetics they were going for to represent her powers (her flames do devour stuff, and it doesn’t really feel like a burning flame and more like solidified blood). Overall, especially when combined with other parts, the theme fits her while still feeling new and exciting enough. My personal favorite would be the theme of the guardian of the oasis (inside apep), if only it was longer and had more things in it. But since it’s so short, I prefer Andrius theme instead.

Fax. I've already said it a few times, but musical integrity/fluidity/consistency should not be reliant on context. If a song cannot stand on it's own, then there was a shortcoming somewhere along the lines. At the same time, music is a creative process and is (generally speaking) subjective from an artistic standpoint. Clearly many people still liked that dubstep section, while others dislike it, all regardless of context.

You realize he wasn’t even responsible for the EDM on previous boss themes, right? He composed a lot of the themes, but wasn’t responsible for the arrangements which is where the EDM is done.
