Just to give some context behind the song, this was written by a rock duo named B'z who are celebrating their 35th anniversary this year. They're one of Japan's biggest rock bands and the first Asian artist to be inducted into Hollywood's RockWalk. The piece was written to be the theme song for a Japanese submarine war movie (hence the deep sea themed music video). A lot of the reaction in Japan was that this song is really similar to a piece they wrote in 2005 called Ocean, which was written for a TV Drama about Japan's Coast Guard. As a fan of both artists, I was a little underwhelmed by this song. It's not, by any means, a bad song, but B'z could have written something to push Ado's limits and for her to find a new way to express herself but ended up keeping it a rather traditional rock ballad. Then again, that could have been what the director/music composer had asked of B'z/Ado when making this piece.
