So we haven't done a Pink Floyd video since the uh... McDonalds video LOL. So I kinda left em alone... but you guys have asked and asked for them. So here we are. And once again, I am a silly goose. This was utterly fantastic.

60 yo dude from Kansas here. It wasn't uncommon to listen to Welcome to the Machine and then play right on into this one. What a one-two punch. Poignant words at the end and right on man. I think it's natural to deeply regret wasted time and opportunities, but it's nice to think that those things you described have made you uniquely who you are today. I think sometimes it's easier to appreciate the light after having known the dark.
@L33Reacts
@L33Reacts 6 ай бұрын
The only way you truly appreciate the light is if you have traveled in the dark and all that entails. There be monsters... but sometimes that light can be blinding and make you return to the bizarre comfort of the night. It's a strange dichotomy. Glad you enjoyed my friend. I heard welcome to the machine years ago in High school... this stuff is magic

Of all the floyd songs I've heard they are mostly from this album (wish you were here/welcome to the machine) and now this one... it's my favorite so far too :) very dynamic and engaging. So much little stuff going on at once that equals this just punch to the gut (in the best way possible lol)

This was the only song where Roy Harper was a vocalist. His voice is similar to Dave Gilmour's. And the song was based on actual conversations they had with music reps. Good job reviewing. And yeah the animals album has some interesting music and so does the Wall. Is Anybody Out there is thought provoking . Good luck with your recovery and God Bless you.

So the end of this, the guitar gets sucked into a transistor radio. The person with the radio, changes the station, finds the song with a guitar playing on it. He picks up his guitar and plays over it, starting “Wish you were here. Most Pink Floyd songs blend/mix/run together. Not a one song and move on kind of band. They do albums as an art form, a story in many cases. Nice reaction!

Will be interesting to see what you made of the singer on this track as it was Roy Harper and not one of the band. Roy has never got the exposure that he deserved for his own work mainly because he never sought the fame and fortune and remained an independent artist for most of his career (hating the business machine of the record industry which made him perfect for this track) He has however produced 22 studio albums and some amazing work amongst it (its generally classified as Folk rock but has progressive rock leanings too). Why not give him a try, has great finger style guitar and has also been tagged the British version of Bob Dylan for his songwriting skills which is not a bad comparison to have. I would suggest ‘Same old rock’ from his 1971 album ‘Stormcock’ which has a guest appearance from his friend Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin). Another one worth a listen with some collaborators that you will know is ‘You’ from the 1980 album ‘The unknown soldier’ which has vocals from Kate Bush and guitar contributions from David Gilmour

His son, Nick Harper is also a highly talented musician. Roy Harper also sung the vocals live on Have A Cigar when Pink Floyd played Knebworth

Roy Harper's vocal was essential, above all he has the right kind of *attitude* to fully bring out the irony of the situation in the lyrics - the right swagger in his voice. I think Mick Jagger or Alex Harvey would have done it much the same way, probably Sting too (or Randy Bachman), but neither Roger nor Dave were able to pull that rabbit out of their vocal hats.
@L33Reacts

He knocked this out of the park. He seemed like a normal part of the band. I know Roger and Dave usually do the vocals but I didn't even notice a difference, that's how well he fit in here! But now on a third listen, you can hear the difference since I'm listening for it lol

My first listen to Pink Floyd was, ‘Echoes’, as a 15 year old in 1971, just after Meddle had been released. It’s pretty much my favourite piece of Floyd music, but only just, as there’s so many Masterpieces. Especially, ‘Dark Side Of The Moon’, ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘The Wall’. All incredible Concept Albums. So many more great Albums as well as those, but they’re my own personal favourites. Not sure how much you’ve touched on Floyd, but hope you do more. Along with ‘Yes’, they’re my joint all time favourite Bands. 🎶❤️🎶

The lyrics to this song are must listen for any aspiring musician. My favorite line in the song "We're so happy, we can barely count" (the money.) Also the transition from Welcome To the Machine in to this one is brilliantly done. You really get a sense of of being drawn into some corporate setting and suddenly finding yourself at a party being patronized by some corporate producer, who's clearly full of crap.

Favourite band since 1970. A band for all seasons. Stunningly good music that never gets old. Don't worry man. I'm 67 and still loving the music and enjoying a chilled, relaxing life with a bit of weed and a glass of wine. Just enough to take the edge off life's bad shit. I'm a retired environmental scientist and old hippy so I am acutely aware of the bad shit the world flings around. With 4 kids and 3 grandchildren I really hope we can get our act together as a species and stop behaving like kids in the playground. Sometimes all you can do though is stay positive and try to make your bit of the world around you a better place. Lots of love and good vibes from Wales - the land of song. Really enjoy your vids. Have fun.

THE GOAT. Hope everyone is doing well! I don't know what you have or haven't listened to PF wise, but I highly encourage you to go through their list of masterpieces and pick the ones you haven't listened to for your channel. I know others have suggested listening to the entire album at one time, as PF meant for many of their albums to be heard that way. If you can, maybe one side of an album at a time-if doing an entire album is too time consuming. Just know that some songs, like the one you just heard, transition directly to another song for a particular reason and meaning. Also, there is their live stuff. I might suggest Echoes, live from Pompeii for a start. BRILLIANT.

LOL that was so rough. I felt so embarrassed. But I was just working with what I had at the moment and didn't give up on my dream. And here we are 6 months later... in a much better spot. Gotta thank the perseverance for that one. And I'm totally down for more floyd. This was incredible.

Pretty much any song from Meddle, DSOTM, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, the Pulse concert, Pink Floyd in Pompeii, or Roger Waters or David Gilmur live, you cannot go wrong.

Pink Floyd produced arguably the best concept records ever made. To REALLY "get" them the albums must be taken as a whole. I'm NOT kidding. Next, please do "Echoes" - the studio version first, and then, after that, live at Pompeii for the contrast to them in the studio. It gives you a real sense of them.

As a drummer, you should check out One Of These Days, from the Meddle album. Do the Live At Pompeii version, will blow your mind.

For an introduction to Roy Harper try "I Hate the White Man" a deeply introspective song sung with real bitterness, & "East of the Sun" a gentle love song.

Now ya gotta check out Roy Harper's album When an Old Cricketer Leaves the Crease.(also known as HQ in the UK) There is a song on there called The Game parts 1 through 5 which features members of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and oh yeah Bill Bruford

It is often missed tat Roy Harper is doing some guest vocals. I once saw Floyd with Roy helping on this track. On the same bill Roy had his own set with Gilmour and Bill Bruford in his band.

Dogs, Pigs or Sheep from Animals if you haven't already done them would be a great choice. That album follows Wishe you were here and absolutely rocks.

Lee... It's David Gilmour... Of course he is making that guitar talk. He ALWAYS makes that guitar talk. This is the only song of Pink Floyd's that a guy from outside of the band did the singing. Roy Harper is a niche folk rock legend and he is one of my heros. He was recording in one of the other studios at Abbey Road and wandered in to hear what they were doing... Neither Roger or David could give the song the punch that they wanted so they asked Roy to give it a go... And we are left with this gem. (Yes I realise that Claire Tory did the vocal gymnastics on Great Gig In The Sky but it wasn't a song with words) Roy was a friend of them all at the time... Led Zep and The Who... David and Roy wrote a song together and David released it on his first solo album. And Roy got together a scratch band for a live gig one day in the seventies and of course it included Keith Moon on drums and John Paul Jones on bass....
