You might think that you have done “Sultans” now. So that is that. But in this case you really should go on to listen to the live version. The studio version is clean and perfect. The Alchemy live version is one of the top guitar performances ever. And the drumming is astounding. I think this is your third comment. I’m willing to bet that many of the others will agree. Just so you know, Mark Knopfler finger picks. MK doesn’t just play guitar, he makes love to his guitar and allows us to listen. He’s a master at making a guitar cry like no other. If you want to hear a song that makes you cry, especially coming from a military family, you have to hit “Brothers In Arms”. It will make you cry. Guaranteed.

The finger style picking , is known as " Chicken Picking" , a bluegrass style, much like a banjo. The plucking of the strings make a cluck, or pluck sound. Chet Atkins, Lindsey Buckingham ( Fleetwood Mac) Vince Gill , and Albert Lee...are masters of such style.❤ Up next , Sultans , Alchemy Live.

When I was around 9 yo I got my first clock radio - it wasn't even a digital clock, it had hands that glowed in the dark - and at night I would turn it on low so my parents couldn't hear and I'd listen to a 'Top 10 at 10' show when this album came out, because this song was requested so much that it was automatic that it would get played. One of my favorite songs of all time, it completely transported me to a different world. Another song around the same time I did the same thing with was 'Comfortably Numb'. I'm not a huge Dire Straits fan, but this song is on a different level. Thanks as always for the reaction, Lee.

Great choice, I love the storytelling on this one. Inspired by a real-life experience when Mark was out on the town, and heard a horns playing as he passed a bar. He went inside and discovered a very mediocre dixie jazz band playing to an almost empty place, with some younger folks all crowded in a corner completely ignoring that performance. Mark is one of my all-time favourite guitarists, with a totally unique tone, and a killer knack for storytelling. You should definitely check out Romeo and Juliet, and Telegraph Road, but if you do that one, do the live version from the Alchemy tour, absolutely next-level stuff. Great reaction as always, Lee - peace and love from Canada!

I was 10 when the Beatles first hit America with I Want to Hold your Hand. It was like nothing we'd heard before. Fresh and exciting, it was like a light switch had been turned on. Cut to 1978... I was on my way home from work when this song came on the radio. I suddenly had that same feeling. This was also so unique. I immediately drove to the record store to buy the album but it was already sold out. Fortunately, I had a friend that worked there and he got me a copy a couple of days later. The whole album is top notch. That said... you MUST watch the Alchemy Live version of SOS. The single best concert footage on all of KZfaq. (IMHO)
