It's really cool that your father has been doing this for so long he just knows. Scoop up a shovel of dirt and plop it on the ground. The sound and the way it breaks up reveals everything he's looking for. #respect

Thanks for the video Andy! Got a question for you. There seems to be a lot of older farmers with relatively fewer young guys on the farms to keep things running after they retire. Do you have any plans for your farm and how you envision getting the work done after the older crew steps away?

That is a good question. They won't retire until they are physically incapable of working or dead. That is just the nature of this industry. We have enough revenue to justify bringing on full-time help, but we just don't need it now. I foresee a shift in our farming practices to have everything done in a way that involves the least amount of help at 1 time. That may be more no-tillage on soybeans, possibly strip tillage on corn, and a lot more reliance on the sprayer. We will have to fill in the gaps in the busy seasons with some part-time help, especially during harvest. That is my speculation.

Should do a book for each piece of equipment. That you can write down little notes on problem and solutions. Nobody can remember everything all the time. Just a thought. Especially with the sprayer since Just learning everything.

You be go fast using that digger and planter. Ricky Bobby. Lol. Is that your black and red semi? It's really nice. You are going to have to talk about that semi.

It is my uncle's that doesn't work on the farm. He is retired from trucking but I don't believe has been able to sell the truck yet. He sorta missed the market at this point. Trucks are worth a fraction of what they were two years ago!

I can confirm if the shovel method for testing if a field is fit for planting ever produced results in my area, it's go-baby-go. To have clay not stick to a shovel and break up like that is a dream right now. How many acres have you gotten in the ground now, given these videos are behind some weeks of work?

Andy, how's the additional nitrogen on yield? haha. I am in aw of all the things farmers know, or have to know, to grow a successful crop. Set aside weather, people have no idea what all is required of farmers to feed the world. Good job and good season.

Most of the time, additional nitrogen isn't going to have a positive ROI after your minimum threshold is met. As long as you have enough, there are often other limiting factors that come first, whether it be other nutrients, water, water damage, etc..

The main reason for the different wear is caused by slightly off angles I assume.
