Going swimming is one of the best things you can do for your health. However, whether you’re in a pool or an open body of water, drowning is always a concern - and the possibility of it is scary. Dry drowning describes what happens when your airway closes before water goes into your lungs.
If you do inhale water before your airway clamps shut, you can get serious injuries. This video describes what dry drowning is and the signs to look out for.

I nearly drowned today at the pool. I was under for probably 15-20 seconds. It felt like more because time slows down and it seemed to go white. The harder I’d try to swim up, the further down I’d sink. I still don’t know how I was able to come back up. Water was pouring out of my nose, my throat was sore and my lungs do feel somewhat irritated. Now I’m terrified I might still drown from this dry drowning.

Yesterday, I had something like this happened to me recently. I wasn't swimming but instead I was taking a shower. I like to point the removable shower head at my mouth so that the water hits my teeth. Essentially, to floss my teeth with high pressured water. However, I realized I probably should stop doing this. By accident, something happened where the water hit my throat and I could not breathe. I immediately inhaled really hard and my lungs started to hurt badly (as soon as I tried to get oxygen). But, I got no oxygen. This was really painful and scary but somehow I was able to breathe again after about 5-10 seconds later but it was hurtful. So about two days later, I still feel an odd feeling around my lung area in my body :( Hopefully the feeling goes away within the week, if not, I'll go to the doctors for a checkup.
