Dry Fly Fishing Stoneflies & Caddis

Summertime bugs are out, with lots of hatches happening in Southwestern Montana. Another great day of dry fly fishing on a classic stretch of water. We happened upon plenty of fish eating stoneflies in the morning and caddis in the evening

Nice , hit the stonefly hatch last year by campfire pure luck . A couple of hours of unbelievable fishing and no one there . Thanks for sharing

Nice fish! I tend to catch more fish per day in that section but catch bigger fish downstream towards Varney Bridge. Did real well floating McAtee to Burnt Tree during the Salmon Fly hatch the last week of June. We did a 3 day trip in YNP to fish the Salmon Fly hatch on the Yellowstone River last week. Had a 10 mile stretch of the river all to ourselves, no other people, no boats, 30+ fish days with some 20 inch cuties, all on chubbies but you need a permit and haul a heavy pack, including beer, 7 miles to the campsites.

Wow that sounds like an awesome adventure. I need to get out in the park more often! Can't beat native fish on big dries with no people.

Just missed a walk-up permit for Slough Creek, 2 guys from Minnesota went in the side door at Mammouth and snatched it up. Drove all the way there from Bozeman to be there at 8. Bummer! That place is hard to get a permit for this time of year.

Yo! I'm actually not guiding currently, started working for a professional photographer/filmer as an assistant (probably should update that on my page). Unfortunately there is not enough time for me to do both guiding and assisting this summer, but next year I plan to be guiding again
