Just had a belt break on one of our ge dryers, my fearless supervisor was clueless as to the repair. I just got handed a replacement belt and told to handle it. I remember watching this video a while back so I pulled it back up and handled it. These videos are remarkably effective for me as we have very similar appliances. Thank you Lex, you're doing God's work.

Dryer will not spin? It's usually either a slipped belt, stretched belt or the belt simply snapped. The humming you hear will be the motor running but powering nothing. Every appliance has a troubleshooting sheet located inside it. There will be either a front bottom panel which is removable or accessed by removing the back panel. The sheet will be taped somewhere inside. It will contain how to force the trouble codes and how to read them. As well as how to put the machine into a test mode which puts it through each of its functions. It's very simple and is exactly what a repairman will do but will charge you nicely for it!

@@LexVance If the belt has slipped off, I always simply replace it since you're already in there, belts are inexpensive and it may have slipped off due to it being stretched. Why pay someone again or go through the hassle of taking everything apart again if it slips off again.....simply replace the belt.

Tore it apart to see if the belt was broken and it wasn’t. I took it apart and re ran it through just Incase ... Same result. It’s just humming. What should I try next? I have a question about my dryer it’s basically doing the same thing as this video. I try to start it and it just does a buzzing sound. So I turn the drum inside about halfway around. And then I am able to start it. It is also very difficult to push halfway around. Most dryers I’ve had it’s fairly easy to turn the drum inside. So does that kind of say what it could be?

Its been a while since I opened up my Kenmore 90 Series dryer but I'm pretty sure the belt is ok. I'll check again. But since I last tried to fix my dryer, prob from posting to you before, I found that someone put something outside against the wall and it blocked my vent. Not completely blocked but possibly enough to do something. ? I removed the item of course and cleaned the lint caked vent that goes through the wall to outside. 👍🏼 The place I live is old & not well maintained. The dryer is old too & was sold to me 2 years ago. The insides (when I took the top & door off like you did) were caked with lint. It's been all cleaned & I oiled what I could too. What do you think about this vent having been blocked? What should I look to fix now? My dryer was making that same exact buzz when I pushed the on button as your's did but the drum would not turn. It would turn some if I spun it manually but it was very hard to turn. Maybe that's normal. ? But unfortunately, the last time I tried the button, it stopped buzzing now. Yikes. I hope it's still fixable. Been going without it for a year. Laundromat so expensive. Thank you for any help. PS I have a very badly injured neck & shoulders so I need a really good idea of what's up so I spend my time wisely when I try to fix it. Thank you again!!

Lex Vance dang, I hope not. Maybe I just blew a fuse or something by pushing the button while trying to fix the dryer, seeing if it would then turn the dyer on? How else would you explain that the button buzzed just fine until recently, when the dryer has just been sitting? Thank you.
@BlessedBaubles
@BlessedBaubles 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Lex Vance... here I am 2 more years later, still with that broken dryer. But I watched your video again tonight because guess what?? (I won’t keep you in suspense too long because I know you’re dying to know. 🥴😁 ) I recently plugged the dryer in because, well, I believe in miracles. The dryer didn’t spin but that buzzing that had stopped before, stop stopping. Lol. In other words, the On button is buzzing again when I push it in!!! Woo hoo. New hope! So again I’ll try taking things apart again and see if I can get the belt back onto the motor like you did. Gee, I wish I had some pictures to know what I’m doing in there, but maybe I’ll find some on the Internet. Wish me luck. Love your videos. You are very funny!! I laughed so hard at your clogged tub video!! You use the key saw. Ya!! As a single mom of 3 now grown boys, I taught them how to fix many things. Some of the laughs we’ve had are when I’ve unclogged drains like you did. After perhaps we moved into a new place or something, and mom (me) would have to free up the old clogged sink or tub. I’d take that ratty plastic tool thingy that you hate (and thanks for the the tip! Because now I won’t use that water f,I king thing again either!) But I’d “spin it like spaghetti”! Ewww!! Then I’d show my boys how to unclog a drain. But I’d say, “Look here boys... here comes a big fish!” They’d gross out and we’d laugh it up. Gotta have some laughter during such a sickening task, right? Ok then, thanks and God bless you. PS. My washer isn’t spinning as well as it used to. I had a renter put way too many jeans in it and it hasn’t been right since. But that was ten years ago and she’s still working well even though the clothes are a bit too soaked when wash it done. But atleast she still works. I watched your washer video just now and will check the hose thingy to see if it’s clogged, even though I don’t think it’s that. But hey, you never know. My Lord... it would be heaven if I had a good spinning washer and a dryer that works, after dragging really wet clothes to the laundromat or hanging them all over our tiny apartment with fan running til they dry for the last almost 3 years. 🥴 Wish me well. I’ll shut up for real this time. God bless and thanks so much.

@@LexVance I managed to find a belt for GE, Whirlpool, etc.. from Lowe’s. It is 88 inches long, whereas the oem replacement belt says it’s 89 1/2 inches. I had an incredibly tough time getting the tensioner pulled far enough. My daughter had to do it bc I just couldn’t get it to go. As my husband says, I ran out of ass to get it installed. We put the dryer back together, with exception of the top. The first time I turned it on, we had to start the drum turning. Afterward, it has started every time. We’re running a 10 min run on air dry just to get the dryer going so it can break in the new belt. I still don’t have a clue what was wrong with it unless the slight fraying was causing it (?). This time I was able to remove the heavy tufts of lint that was covering the back of the dryer drum & the remaining tufts of lint that was around the motor area. Any ideas? Dumb luck?

My dryer has no hum and won't start.light comes on inside when you open the door so I doubt it is the door latch switch. Checked the thermal fuse, start switch and changed the wall cord but still won't start. Got an idea what could be wrong?

Pull the knob off and see if it's cracked. Sometimes the knob will just spin on the dial but the dial is not moving because the knob is cracked. So, the timer stays in off position when you think you're moving it to turn on. Hopefully it's a simple fix like that. If not, the motor could be bad.

Nice! I have a dryer with a similar problem. It runs if I pack the clothes up in the right side of the machine. If I just load it without that it just sounds like its trying to spin but can't. My guess is that the clothes need to "help" it start by weighing down the right side. Do you have any tips for what it might be?

Good evening lex. I was hoping you may could help me out. My dryer motor is making a buzzing noise the belt is on it there's no lint anywhere I have cleaned the entire dryer and I can take and spin the drum with my hand and the dryer will start but it shuts back off after a few minutes can you please point me in the right direction of what I need to look at thanks in advance

Try cleaning the vent hose in the back of the dryer. If that's clogged, it will shut off due to getting too hot. It's a safety thing.

@@LexVance Ok, this is what I asked you on my other post, but maybe I wasn’t clear enough. So, my dryer is doing the buzzing thing and would spin sometimes, and sometimes not. Then not at all. But still buzzes at the button. I noticed that outside, where my dryer vents to the outside, the vent was blocked by something! I removed the object, cleaned out the very thick lint in the vent, and hoped that was it. My question is.. if it dies not end up being the belt slipped off the motor, do you think the blocked vent may have blown a fuse or something? Over heated? If so, does that make sense that it would still buzz when I push the button? Just thought this was a good chance to ask you that question more clearly since I don’t think you caught what I was asking on my other post. Thanks and God bless.

Jonathan Williams Its hard to tell by not being there. But my prediction is that the belt slipped off the motor shaft due to the weight of the wet stuff you put in the dryer. @LexVance
@LexVance 7 жыл бұрын
Jake Sussenberger Hmmm did you pull the timer knob off & make sure its not cracked? That is 99% of the problem with the GE dryers i work on. Simple fix. Just put a new knob on. Dryer motors are 120 volts. The 240volts is just for the heating element. Could be a breaker too. Could be a bad motor. But first, pull the timer knob off & see if its crack. It should just pull off.

good chance that someone ran the dryer without the lint screen in.. which leaves a great big giant hole for socks to get sucked into the squirrel cage air impeller. once a sock or other item gets knarled up in that nothing moves.. but the electricity.. which is what you hear humming. the motor sucks air from the drum via the lint filter and expells it outside.. the drum sucks air from the inside of the dryer container (thru the heating filiments) the outside air comes in thru vents to keep the outside of the dryer cool.. and the heating tube draws that air and it goes directly from filiments into the drum to dry your clothes. so if you throw a sock in the air pump end of the motor.. everything stops. the other end of the motor runs the pully drive belt that turns the dryer drum. so when the motor stops everything stops.. but u can still hear the electric hum.
