Jonny was invited over to the congestion capital of the world (Paris), by DS to view their latest electric version of the DS3 Crossback.
Whilst DS is the luxury side of Citroen, in the PSA group, Jonny can't help but compare it to the rest of the available EV's out there.
Will its 'luxury' and unique design elements help this car stand out in a world of higher range, same sector cars?
We couldn't keep making the show without our supporters, thank you all!

Loved this video, and I’ve watched every Fullycharged Episode going and have been an early supporter of the channel. Thank you Jonny, that was an excelled, balanced preview of the car and its pluses and minuses, something I’d been aware of and felt us EV evangelists have been guilty of over recent years is just shouting about how great EVs are whenever one was released.But that battle is now won, EVs are undoubtedly the future, and with the increase of them on the market its more and more important to be critical of them as well as praise them. Personally I think PSA has styling totally on point of late, and I’m loving what they’re putting out from an aesthetic perspective, but feel they get the tech wrong, frequently the wrong engines in their cars etc. Think this is a good solid step forward for PSA, but until they get a good skateboard design I can’t see me recommending one to people with that compromised space in the back and boot.

When he popped what is commonly referred to as a 'frunk' I was saddened to see the lack of space. I understand why they're doing it this way, as Jonny says it's to enable them to scale production and keep it all on the same line. It's like they're just dipping their toe in and not fully committing. I just hope that enough people buy PSA BEV anyway so they'll fully commit for the next production marques.

@ProfessorHamer
@ProfessorHamer 4 жыл бұрын
Actually weight saving is not that important on EVs, since higher torque for the same acceleration is only slightly less efficient, and the linear increase in kinetic energy is recovered by the regen. A simple proof of this is to always accelerate hard in an ev and compare the efficiency with driving gently, the impact is much smaller than you would expect coming from a gasoline car. In a gasoline car accelerating hard is very inefficient.

It’s a shame that the question about renewable/recycled materials was dodged, I think it shows a lack of understanding from the established players in the combustion engine market. New brands coming through, operating on skate board platforms - offering more storage, more versatility - and using recycled/cruelty free materials is where we need to be heading. Great review!

You are absolutely right, although I'd argue that the battery recycling/reusability should be the top priority at first!
@guseks8413
@guseks8413 4 жыл бұрын
The reason they don't use skateboard platforms is because they want to make them on the same production line as the ICE/hybrid versions. The reason for that is simple, the market is not there yet when it comes to pure EVs and it wont be for a few years atleast. What you are saying about the recycled materials I agree with though new production of plastic materials needs to end soon, cruelty free materials I don't really know what it is but I guess leather and as long as people eat meat we might aswell use the skin, it would be a waste otherwise.

I don't mind cars, have one myself. But please stop this notion that evs are good for the environment. Yes they are better than ices, but guess what? driving a 2-3 tonne isn't gonna save you from congestion nor the fact that you are hauling ~25x dead weight for any transportation. Should there be cruelty free option? Yes. But the incumbent ev manufacturer aren't the holy grail you thinking they are.

Another great show. Thanks a lot. My take: I'd rather have a hatchback than any of the crossover / suvs. When did all the manufacturers come together and decide that the front ends had to look like something from Star Wars? And third, too expensive. Fourth, way too many diamonds. I think they took that design detail too far, a lot too far.

I absolutely love the DS3 E-tense, I think it's the most beautiful EV out there - but it's priced too high, and have too limited range. I hope the boom of EVs in 2020 will 'force' DS to adjust their prices - or the range - but untill then I'm already beginning to look forward to a DS4 E-tense or a fully electric DS7.

I wonder when companies will start getting creative again. Truly creative, as in designing the exterior around the benefits of the interior, making a car more functional with all the space electric components no longer need. Minivans would be amazing electrically - flat floor and no bonnet are easy. You could have so much interior space. Instead we keep getting more and more stupid little crossovers with little interior space and a massive body on the outside.

That touch screen responsiveness, I agree, is more important than a lot of auto manufacturers understand (ICE or EV). If it is slow to respond - especially in a top luxury car - it will be perceived as cheap quality. It needs to respond IMMEDIATELY to your touch, especially if you are accessing the screen while you're driving.

I think they're trying to copy the VAG model. DS = luxury (kinda Audi?), Peugeot = Sporty (SEAT), I think they'll position Opel/Vauxhall as a more staid middle ground like VW, Citroen for a bit more quirk and now they have FCA, FIAT will become the Skoda. Who knows if it will work though... historically all those brands have occupied similar space and are all much of a muchness. Will be interesting to see if they can separate them out into some kind of distinct pecking order like VAG have achieved. This car is absolutely gopping though. And far too expensive.

It does look good. If you don't regularly make very long trips the range is fine. I find the trend toward huge batteries to be wasteful. Big batteries are expensive and heavy. They are of little use for most people's daily use and cost extra energy to lug around town. This appears to be a fine car for an urban lifestyle, much nicer to look at than a Kia.

The problem is that people will end up keeping an ICE car for their occasional longer journeys. Inside is beautiful, as quality I hope. For me it's great car to go aroud town, park for free and have nice, silent place to stay in traffic jam in Cracow. My diesel have big range but I need it only when I go on vacations trips aroud Europe and only reason for that I bought diesel 4 years ago. Now it's not my must-have, I preffer to have silent and comfortable car with great desing. PS. nice shoes ;)

Almost twice the price of the top of the range MG ZS ev, but with possibly better build quality and looks, and a rust warranty that covers the whole car, unlike its cheaper competitor.

Whatever this excellent review concludes.....it's great to see Citröen doing what they do best again, they really did lose their way for quite a few years. Cars that are quirky, slightly 'mad' whilst being brilliant in many ways, flawed - but forgiven - and above all, different. If you truly get what real Citroens were about and this car evokes memories of some truly inspired cars for a buyer they'll pay for this regardless of price. No one is forcing anyone to part with their cash. If you're someone who likes to show that they themselves as different to the herd for example..... Great to see something visually individual, even if they aren't calling it what it is. A Citroën.

I love the interior design... it’s brilliant on the whole DS range but the Tesla model 3 is still at the top of my wish list

Love the "Carry On up the Tailpipe" music (ooo matron)! Similar to Jonny, I agree you could buy a Tesla Model 3 SR+ for the same money and I know what I would have, despite the undoubted French flair. Form over substance then. The old DS5 was proper gorgeous inside (shame it's discontinued) with aircraft style chunky switches overhead. I think the Peugeot e208 is nicer inside and out than this DS and the 208 seems to enjoy better tech too? Anyway, it's great that more EVs are turning up and in this case - it's a pretty thing to look at.

Acceleration or sharpness isn't what Citroën is about. It's about comfort. Actually, even more than comfort it's about ease of driving. It's little details like a "dark" button on the center console that turns off all lights except the speedometer. Very nice while driving in the dark. It's about things you're doing semi-automatically while driving in other cars that get taken care of, or pushed to the background. It's about being able to drive for 10 hours without getting tired. You really need to drive one to understand it. And sure, even then it's possible this brand isn't for you, that's fine. We're all different and that gives the world color.

Material wise, I was actually happy about the recycled basic black plastic interior panels in our Leaf. Kid proof, liquid and dirt proof, can take a beating and the recycled content was a step in the right direction. Still waiting for an AWD wagon/crossover Subaru replacement EV.
