You know the ironic part? Garak says Bashir has no secrets, but this episode happened before the truth about his genetic enhancements were discovered.
@TheDjbz
@TheDjbz 6 жыл бұрын
That doesn't necessarily mean they hadn't thought of it during the writing of this episode. I doubt that Bashir ever mentions it in his personal log, and there's no way he doesn't fake his medical exam results somehow (Or he'd have been busted the first time he needed any medical attention himself)
@Djarra
@Djarra 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheDjbz The genetic enhancement wasn't planned by the writers so it doesn't have a bearing on earlier episodes. However to get the enhancement done the Bashir's had to go out of Federation territory and it's known that the Cardassians use genetic engineering, so it isn't beyond the realm of possibilities that a human family getting such a procedure would be noted by the Obsidian Order. Information that would come up in a cross check decades later, so when Garak chose to sit at Bashir's table he knew that Bashir would be useful, and when Tain told the military not to interfere with Bashir when he visited him he wanted to protect a potential asset. You can read a lot into stuff Garak said over the years that points in that direction. Then after it becomes public knowledge Garak implies he knew all along. Although even if he hadn't known he'd still imply that he did. so you can't read too much into that.

Also it echoes 'Second Skin' where Garak vaporises Entek after watching a reflection and seeing him reach for a second phaser in his boot. It ties back into this episode as Garak tries to explain the difference between reality and the fantasy. But basically one is just an OTT version of the other.

@@nelsonchereta816 That's also why it knocked the henchman out. Realistically, a champagne cork wouldn't have enough force to knock somebody out. Too slow, too light. But on the holodeck, rule of cool applies. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Though seeing as the henchman was already... Visually impaired... Hitting his other eye with the cork would have incapacitated him as well, at least for a moment. I loved how they did it, the first Act was almost like the Bond of the books meeting the one of the more over-the-top Movies. Then what it brought out in Dr. Bashir over the course of the episode, which was genius and very well done by the cast and the writers. There had been "espionage" plots in Star Trek before, but these guys would have both fit in with a Jack Higgins plot.

Bashir and Garak have a very unusual friendship. My favorite line in this was when Garak says perhaps he joined the wrong intelligence. Actually, Garak made a completely wrong assessment of that incident. Garak interpreted the villain taking the form of himself to be a sign of Bashir not trusting him and complemented that. It's been a while since I've seen this, but I am fairly certain that Garak, had already checked out the holosuite program and knew all along, what it exactly was about.

Considering that he came prepared dressed in a matching tux, I think you’re right that he had already done some prior reconnaissance. 😂

If holosuites were real, I would never leave them.

And that is actually Reginald Barkley's problem. It's an actual diagnosis in that universe: holoaddiction.

If Holosuites were real then something would go horribly wrong and you wouldn't be ABLE to leave them

Garak only has great moments. Frankly, I am ready for a spin off series of the Obsidian Order.

Just saw this on Hulu. Still as much fun as the first time. Garak really rocked that turtleneck, and Worf that tux and cigar.

I´d love to have Garak as player in a Shadowrun game and hate to have him as Gamemaster. Everyone dead within minutes, no matter who or what you are.

1:21 never noticed before but Bashir stands just like how Sean Conory's Bond stood when talking to someone like Q. Love DS9.
