I remember when I a kid of about 7 yrs old, I was turning the tv channels. A beautiful lady whom I never seen before was singing, as I was watching my mother came in the room and said, ooh Shirley Basset I sure do like her, and that's how came to know this power house of a voice, and entertainer. She still got it.

My late mother inlaw went to school with Shirley. Lots of stories were told before she left us. This was a wonderful This is your life. Thank you for posting this one..

She has always been my idol since i started singing in school at age 6 in 1967. Even if her songs were quite difficult to learn as a real Dame Diva of the Century, i still could sing now her songs like Never Never Never, This is My Life, Gooldfinger and more. All in Male Baritenor arrangement. She is really a teasure in the World of Music. She remains my Number 1 Singing Idole todate. Bravado Mi Dame Shirley Bassey. I love you so dearly.

Saw the one also they did for her in 1993 , This is your Life . Her voice , lung power , glamour , specially now her later years always been a fan . Wish people would stop writing of kids tell all’s of world singers and film stars . It is a life that the applause , adoration of world wide fans they need deep within often and yes , one cannot have it all and oft kids , family ( immediate ) “ suffer “ in a way the lack and or oft times , affection , time together . But no different military families and all others who need travel their work . This was before the death of Dame Shirley's 21 year old youngest daughter , Samantha. Her eldest daughter Sharon was 30 when Samantha died in 1985 and said in a 1994 interview that Samantha was always a bit rebellious and hated that her mother travelled nonstop for her career. After Dame Shirley buried her daughter in 1985, she lost her voice at a concert in Australia and realized she had not properly grieved her daughter ; a voice coach she hired worked with her for the next 10 years after that to help Shirley recover and perform again. Shirley had been estranged from her adopted grand nephew Mark until the 1990s after he wrote a tell all book about how chaotic life was growing up with Shirley Bassey the entertainer...in the 1990s they reconciled.

Bassey's first marriage was to Kenneth Hume in 1961. The couple separated in 1964 and divorced in 1965 in the wake of the singer's affair with actor Peter Finch. Bassey then announced to the press that she and Finch would not be marrying, telling the press: "It simply wouldn't work out. Just now I am not ready for marriage to anyone. I feel I have to be free." A year later, Hume sued the actor and another man, John McAuliffe, for being "indiscreet" with the singer. Both Finch and McAuliffe were cited as co-respondents in the Hume-Bassey divorce. For her part, Bassey was named as co-respondent in 1965 when Finch's wife, South African actress Yolande Turner, divorced the actor. Her first husband, Kenneth Hume, died following a drug overdose in 1967 (they had already divorced - he was gay - and the coroner ruled his death accidental). Sergio Novak, the assistant manager of the Excelsior Hotel in Venice, Lido, Italy, and Bassey were married from 1968 until they divorced in 1979. Novak served as Bassey's manager throughout this time. With Novak she adopted her grand-nephew, Mark. The fathers of Bassey's two daughters, Sharon Bassey (a.k.a. Sharon Novak, 1954), whom she gave birth to at the age of 16, and Samantha Bassey (a.k.a. Samantha Novak, born 1963), are unknown. Her older daughter Sharon was initially brought up by Bassey's sister, and thought of her mother as Auntie Shirley. When Bassey became successful, she was reunited with Sharon. "I wasn't, you know, cut out to be a mum", Bassey states. However, Bassey's first husband suggested that Samantha, born during the couple's marriage, was the result of an affair between Bassey and Peter Finch. In 1965, according to an article in Jet, "There is a big dispute in London over who is the father of tempestuous singer Shirley Bassey's baby. On March 24, 2010, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they were undertaking fresh inquiries into the death, and specifically claims that the convicted killer Michael Moffat was involved in her death. However, in October of 2010, it was reported that the investigation came to an end and concluded that there "is no evidence of any criminal act involved" in Novak's death. The ordeal of losing her daughter caused Bassey to temporarily lose her voice. Sharon told the inquest her younger sister sometimes drank to excess and had received treatment for depression. When asked how difficult it was to cope with Samantha's death, Bassey said "It was difficult. Neither girl liked my constantly being absent and going away frequently, but Samantha, she really took it to heart. And every time the suitcases came up from the basement the kids would be on no, not again". In a 2009 interview, Bassey stated that she and her adopted great-nephew, whom she considered her son, Mark, had reconciled. Bassey has four grandsons through her surviving daughter, Sharon Novak, and current resides in Monaco.
