Rest in peace, Dshamilja.
This female snow leopard had been rescued from poachers in Central Asia after sustaining severe injuries in a snare. Conservationists managed to save her, and she eventually came to Zoo Zürich, where she gave birth to and raised several cubs, contributing to the EAZA snow leopard breeding program. At age 19, she has passed away earlier this month.

Such a nice tribute to Dshamilja, she was a survivor of a traumatic injury, a loving mother to many litters and beautiful snow leopard. Rest In Peace!

So glad that she was rescued and had a beautiful life (albeit) in the zoo. In the wild she would have perished, unable to hunt with that leg.

She was a great leopard and mother. Her kids populate zoo’s from Europe to the USA. Her offspring are regarded as the best of captive breading. I think she remains the oldest living in captivity herself, at 23 years old.

Looks like a real animal hero. Very sad that Dshamilja's passed away but she brought endless beautiful small Snow Leopard cubs the world and she has every reason to be proud of herself for the Snow Leopards who're just living because Dshamilja and will have one day their own family which brings again the world small Snow Leopard cubs. When i had a bad day watching Snow Leopard cubs is what always makes me smile.

@Sara Tok: Why, would you prefer that the endangered cubs risk dying in the wild, like their mom would have, if she hadn't gotten veterinary treatment? Or so her cubs can be caught in an agonizing leg trap, to be killed for their fur?

Todo lo que toca el hombre se ve dañado, estos leopardos de las nieves son uno mas de esos dañados, en su habitat viven sin problemas, salvo cuando tienen que compartir su territorio, el programa de recuperación de la especie nunca tendrá éxito si no se conciencian a las personas, mientras esperemos que esta especie siga pudiendo existir.
