What he calls "spam" is actually the other player figuring out his weaknesses in play and taking advantage. What he calls "mashing" is doing the same combo a lot, which EVERYONE does in fighting games, including him. He's just pissed off that players get his number and defeat him. And if he's not willing to invest the time to learn how to play, why even play at all? Just because it's new and popular. That sounds pretty dumb to me, but then this is Phil we're talking about.

Man, to be fair to Phil here, 1+2 breaks are frame perfect input, if you hit 1 then 2 a frame later it keeps the 1 input as the throw break attempt. In a similar vein, if you're trying to do a 1,2 string and press the 2 exactly a frame after the 1 input without also letting go of it, you get 1+2. Actually very annoying
