A great way to stay on track is to count your steps out loud as you go. For example: 1st ✔️, 1st med read only 1st ✔️, 2nd med... 1st ✔️ , 3rd med... You are reading the med bottle only. You've completed the 1st ✔️, which is Verification. Now you do your 2nd ✔️ which is Preparation- 2nd ✔️, 1st med. Put the 1st meds in the med cup 2nd ✔️, 2nd med ... 2nd ✔️, 3rd med... The 3rd and final check is Presentation 3rd ✔️, 1st med-hand med cup and water to Individual 3rd ✔️, 2nd med... 3rd ✔️, 3rd med...

What about wearing gloves

@Amy Wiles, gloves are not a DSP requirement because we only assist with self-administration of medication. I know that facilities require you to wear gloves but that is their added level of sanitation. If you have your DSP curriculum it clearly states that a DSP may only assist with self Administration. It also gets confusing because at facilities a DSP may state, "It's time for me to administer your medication." Administer means to give. Dsps are allowed to assist which is why it states in your curriculum self-administer. The three checks in DSP medication assistance is Verification, Preparation, and Presentation. Presenting someone with a cup of medicine is not giving it to them. You are handing it to them. It is illegal for any facility to require you to put medication in someone's mouth and you don't have the proper credentials.
