Suuuuuper weird, at least DSP is speaking up about this totally real issue. I don't understand how a person can spew out so much garbage and obvious excuses without feeling intense shame afterward.

"honest" doesn't really exist. That's mostly just an FGC filler word with no real objective meaning. Ryu has a very high damage output off of easy input combos, BUT Ryu has been functionally the same for 20+ years so yes Ryu is not "gimmicking" or you cant say its a MU check

7:48 I was actually confused by this so I looked it up. Basically your opponent gets "locked out" when you do a drive impact during a true block-string (which is rare). It's protection for the defending player if they are already stuck in block stun and can't do anything about drive impact. So in Phil's case here. Lily's 2HP (crouching heavy punch) had enough blockstun to "combo" into drive impact, thus the Ryu was protected because he literally could do nothing about the DI after blocking the 2HP.

Yup, Lock state is relatively rare but I'm pretty sure it's explained in the tutorials (though of course that'd be expecting people and especially Phil to do those tutorials lol).

It's because the Ryu was in burnout, which adds blockstun. 2HP would ordinarily not cause a lockout, but in burnout it does. It's pretty rare that even in burnout one normal into DI causes a lockout so I won't knock anyone who doesn't know about that, it doesn't come up that often. If it does happen, I believe you are still plus afterwards, so you can just mash afterwards and be fine. So it's not super punishing if it happens. This isn't the first time it's come up for DSP though, after this I would've just said "shit, I need a new route for Lily in burnout so I can Drive Impact" but he will likely just ignore what just happened.

Several characters have nothing but completely safe patterns that there is absolutely no way to counter and take zero skill to utterly dominate with...just not when Phil is playing as that character. Same with lag - if you're lagging it enables you to do insane combos and unfairly dominate your opponent...except for Phil, for whom it utterly paralyzes by preventing his character from moving or using out basic moves. Friggin' Crapcom must have had 'make everyone else brokenly overpowered, make Phil just broken' at the top of their priorities when they were programming this game.

A few weeks ago i mentioned in dsp's chat how world tour mode teaches you about drive impact lock among other mechanics, and that it's a good play through for even a seasoned vet of the series. Phil read my chat and said "oh well I already know how to play the game, I know all the mechanics so I could see how it would be good for a newbie, but not for me, thanks". So let me get this straight, if the connections says its bad he shits on his opponent and blames the connection. If the connection is good the indicator is lying and the connection still isnt good and his opponent still sucks. So regardless of the ping is the connection and its lagging, interesting 🤔

Just throwing out excuses for the sake of making excuses. They don't have to make any sense - his viewers are so dense they'll just take whatever Phil says as the truth. So Phil gets to keep saying he's good at Street Fighter even while losing more than he wins.
