You are a machine Warren, working as much as you do is no easy feat but even more telling is your vast knowledge/skills, it's too bad the average customer hasn't any idea just what it takes sometimes to get "their job done". There have been times when through the lessons at the school of hard knocks I have tried to minimize my aggravation by quoting absurd prices for jobs to scare a customer off only to have them take me up on it, it wasn't long before I just flat out refused those nightmare jobs, they unfortunately never really pay enough in the long run and they usually keep you from the real money making work that is really routine in nature, it's too bad people in general don't realize just what it takes many times to solve their mechanical problem.

I always hated working on a grease ball truck or tractor. It just showed off a serious lack of maintenance. I could only forgive it if it was a very recent purchase. That final fire up in the video was beautiful. That is how a diesel engine should start. And now you're closer to having it out of your shop. Not sure if it should have ever been there though , a scrap yard might have been more in order. I, while not a huge fan, I have a lot of respect for the DT466 as a whole. To me they preformed well power wise , fuel consumption wise and longevity wise too. International did have some weird cab designs but most newer pickup truck have adopted stuffing the engine back and into an inaccessible position. Our wonderful federal government (and some state ones too) have made manufactures hang so much garbage onto engines I am amazed they run at all.
@samuelberryhill69563 жыл бұрын
Your right the dt 466 and old model international engines are pretty good engines.i work on alot of international trucks on the shop I work at and I would take a dt engine any day over the maxxforce engines
@angrybill3 жыл бұрын
Warren, some of us oldtimers set engine blocks up on their back ends when installing camshafts. Especially so with straight sixes. We let gravity help us with dropping the cam into it's proper place and avoid the cam getting hung up on bearings or sharp edges on the block. I have a hoist just like you do to help me do the heavy lifting. Works perfectly and saves my back.

Great Vid Warren. Takes me back to my days as a coach and bus mechanic in the UK. Used to remove Cummins C Series camshafts in situ in the belly of a coach. I miss those days. Hard days work done right. Nice work my friend.

Nice job .I had one of them .My kids still have it in their back yard. The pedal and pedal mount are weak and can bend or break. The accellerator pedal and stretching of cable to fuel pump .Common .I had to use vice grips to hold pedal to cable one time to get it home. Mine had 210 screamin" horsepower. My newer pickup has more hp.

First smoke and sound of rebuild engine give me huge kicks! Unhappily some builds did not past (last) first test drive - learned every time by my mistakes (read 'no profit'). No engineer is perfect! My father had a small shop and taught to me: Repair/build customers equipment like your own one! Need to be perfect one and better than factory mass product of piece of shit. I appreciate you Warren for your effort to do triple check for torques and timing. Good workmanship at least! Keep the line, Warren, also in the future. I am nowadays retired, but still want to learn from you. Mr. Warren, new tips and tricks for my knowledge and perhaps someone need my opinion at some day and I can refer you Warren. You are 'The Father of Honor'.

I have that same snap on set Love it 3 or 4 biggest size have never even used Cause I'm 99% automotive ring compressors I think the problem you're dealing with is that the ring lands R so far apart that the taper is ramp up on the compressor sleeve cause the ring compressor is not very deep on the band depth so top ring hangs up
@williamgleaves19543 жыл бұрын
YOu must have better knees than me, that's for sure. I'd never do that without it sitting on a high stand so i'm not crawiling or bending low. You would save a lot of trips with a tool cart or rolling parts cart for each project.

Feel ur pain about trash and other stuff on trucks . Drivers just to busy to clean their trucks cause they have to get home to drink beer. Back in the old days drivers or farmers took care of their animals and equipment. It's what paided the bill , mules or draft horses out sick not going to get the field work done . Tractors or trucks had to be up keep . Now days most drivers just drive

Hi Warren, Did you have to rebuild the foot pedal linkage? I know some service persons will not work on a vehicle unless it has been cleaned up by the owner saying they were not a detail shop and they have to have access to what is being worked upon. Let us know when you get Warren's detail shop open for commercial vehicles, agricultural and construction vehicles. I know the OTR trucks have wash and detail services. That way you can spend actual time servicing their equipment. Could be used to generate revenue when your body gets tired having a mobile cleaning service at a rate lower than equipment servicing. I mean do these folks understand they are paying service rates to clean their equipment? I never sent the farm equipment to be worked on without cleaning it first, it is just general disrespect to your trade/services, but that is how folks are these days no pride in their operations, just want to get paid for something with minimal effort. The cleaning devices to make it easier are out there, read the Farm Show magazines.
