Featuring some industry firsts, new patent-pending manufacturing and plenty of intricate details, the new DT Swiss EXC 1200 Classic wheels are the brand’s new HALO product. Come along while we will dive into the details behind their enduro-focused carbon option, the EXC1200 Classic.
These EXC1200 wheels feature DT Swiss’s Revolite bladed Spokes, a ceramic bearing driven DEG 180 hub with 4 degrees of engagement, and DT’s Out Of The Mold production process for the hoops that minimizes waste and maximizes strength and reliability while keeping weight at just 1725g for a 29” wheelset.
Front and rear wheels get a specific profile aimed at a no compromise strength to weight ratio. The front wheel opts for 28 spokes while the rear is 32 maximizing strength where it counts. Both front and rear specific wheels have an inner width of 30mm. Wheels are offered in both 27.5” and 29” options with both having a 148mm rear and 110mm front hub. Pricing lands at $2,911.80 USD.
The EXC1200 is DT’s Enduro-specific Carbon option aimed at taking on gnarly descents under the world's fastest racers and the weekend warrior looking for a wheelset that will outlast their new frame. The focus with this wheel was to deliver on their brand's ethos of no compromise durability and with that they are ASTM class 5 rated.
To do this DT has a patent pending production process dubbed “Out Of The Mold”. This allows them to pull the wheel straight from the mold without having to remove excess resin resulting in fewer imperfections thanks to uninterrupted fibers. These sections of carbon enclose the entire rim to better solidify the rim horns against heavy impacts. All in all this process provides a wheel free of imperfections straight from the layup. Another benefit of this production process is the reduction of material waste!
DT’s RevoLight spokes play a huge factor in the riding characteristics and durability of this wheelset. These spokes are produced using a flat cold forging method that increases the density of the material.
The double-butted spokes forging method creates a uniform shape that not only increases strength and cuts down on weight but also retains the elongation properties ultimately extending the lifespan of the wheel.

@@loganjacobson2335 at this pricepoint, "bang for the buck"-principle isnt applicable anymore. you can get a dtswiss E1900 wheelset for 300€ and ride for years without any maintenance.

How is this better than for example Zipp 3Zero moto wheelset which is half the price and comes with lifetime warranty? This pricing of DT Swiss is insane and there was no information on ride quality of these wheels.

We don’t know just yet as riding has been pretty minimal before launch. We have however ridden and like the Zipps so as we put several hundred miles on these in the coming months for a long term review, we will let you know!

3k for a set of wheels??? In this current bike market good luck with that!!!! 😂😂. I paid 1800 for a NOBL / chris king set, live time warranty, i couldn’t be happier with this choice!!!!

2 weeks on the DEG and it is destroyed with my Bosch CX, 1 week later the next. now i am over with DEG on any E-Bike.

Vehicle parts are made at high economies of scale and not a lot of time or money is invested in trying to make them lightweight. Of course I’m speaking generally. If you look at high end exotic cars you’re going to find parts that are far more expensive and do have a lot of emphasis on being a lightweight and high-performance. The same can be said of the Bike industry. There are many bikes and bike parts that are inexpensive and good quality. This video is focusing on literally a brand new manufacturing process to make the best performing lightest weight carbon wheel set that DT Swiss can possibly make. there’s no world in which they’re going to be cheap. That doesn’t mean you can’t find really good quality wheels at a decent weight far less expensive even from DT swiss themselves.

At the high end, yes. At the mid and low end, you get more quality for the money than you’d ever get. A €1000 bike on the used market nowadays are heaps and bounds more capable than a similarly prices used bike only 10 years ago. Unless you compete at the highest level, you don’t _need_ a high end bike, allthough you might want one. Not many people need a Lambo or Rolls, but plenty want one. Most people can make do with a Golf GTI.

DT can make cheap and strong wheels. Not this time 😮 They should've made them with bold colors for the release they look like any other DT, the type of person who shell out 3k for this is probably concerned about that 😂
