Thank you for the video . I was having trouble understanding double consciousness and since I'm a visual learner this video helped me a lot. Once again, thank you!

I wish they understood its deeper than that. It’s not about not unifying identity; it’s asserting one. This consequently doesn’t get to flourish bc we are hinder by the invisible rules of society; it’s a mechanism of survival. I’ve been theorizing this since I was a child. Message me if you’d like to have insight on more burrowing ideas and theories in reference to this.

Oh hi :)

I was cringing too, until I saw other videos that used this pronunciation, and ultimately- this: [Responding to a speaking invitation by the Chicago Sunday Evening Club in 1939, Du Bois made it clear that: “My name is pronounced in the clear English fashion: Du, with u as in Sue; Bois, as in oi in voice.]

I feel this is into something. Sometimes I feel as though I have many separate selves not in a psycho split personality way but just ways you engage with the world kind of way. It feels nigh impossible to merge them all but I would like to because it feels like these self realization there.

Something happened to my brain after the last trauma in a lifetime of pain and trauma. I hope and wish that it is this and not just another psychology label.
@15dust902 жыл бұрын

So double consciousness is what you think you are + other's people perception

Yes, and how these two conflict e.g) "I'm proud to be black & African", but then you try to conform to white society to get by. Some take the position to ignore white society fully, segregate & self develop. Others assimilate fully, deny their black & African self and white conform the most. Most are in the middle, trying to reconcile the two and get by. This is how systemic racism divides an oppressed race, cause in-race conflict, helping the dominant race to retain power (with unified white identity)

So... brainwashed by others' stereotypes of your people?
@jamesyjamesik715 Жыл бұрын
Brainwashing almost puts too much responsibility on the subjected . It also manifests as limited opportunities by the systems' gatekeepers . Even if you aren't brainwashed because I don't see you as a fit you won't even be considered whether this is subconscious or not. Side note: with the Supreme Court considering removing affirmative action. This scares me. Because our lives are still shaped by stereotypes and we are only just now beginning break them. Stereotyping malicious or not does influence our society.

Well yes. Everyone growing up in the society is conditioned i.e) brainwashed, to varying extents. Race is purely a social construct and brainwashed into everybody. And it works well ...
