These are simply Soul-ish arrangements of her music, which is why I think it's so good stripped down like this, highlighting the melodies and vocals with effective but minimal instrumentation. Yeah, she does know how to put on a Pop performance, but she's pretty similar to Christina Aguilera (not as powerful / as much range), but she's got that vibe and talent. I think she should just go work on an entire Soul album and reach a entirely new and wider audience. She's clearly capable of delivering in that space.

I was never into pop music until I heard Dua blend it with disco. I'm sure she's not the first, just the first I've heard, and i love it. This is what a 10/10 performance looks like. It doesn't need to be a huge, flashy production. Just a well organized group genuinely loving what they do. Her dancing isn't performative, just her grooving to tunes that she enjoys hearing, and by the way she smiles and giggles throughout the whole thing you can tell she loves singing them too. This felt very intimate, like something you might see at a dive bar while everyone is sitting back having drinks, and I absolutely loved it.

There's hardly any one hit wonders anymore with how the music world works these days as far as they completelystop making music after 1 album, most all keep making music that at least some people like. It just doesn't get mainstream recognition. For example I had no idea until like last year or so that Carly Rae jepsen is still making music, yeah the Call me Maybe Girl. And her album Emotion is pretty good, especially the title track. But Dua Lipa is coming up even more in popularity so yeah she's definitely not a one hit wonder even as far as actual mainstream hits go. But like i said, no one is, really.

I often thought cheap instruments and the popular radio explosion in America in the 30s 40s created an amazing generation of musicians. Musicians who heard the very best playing on the radio then tried to be as good. I feel this your tube generation are doing something similar, they see the best and then reach for it. I sometimes think you have to go back to the era of Dusty Springfield, Diana Ross or Ella Fitzgerald to get a vocalist as good as this girl.

I always feel that people base the state of music purely on the pop artists we see and hear. Based on that, I could agree with people being disappointed and surprised when something nice comes along. But there are soooo many young qualified artists around doing absolutely great things. It's not that rare, if you ask me :) Just look at the countless Tiny Desk videos. So many talented young musicians to find there. In comparison, Dua Lipa seems rather tame, even (although I did think this was catchy and nice!). Long story short: it's really not that hard to find great young artists (y)

When she says "slow it down, put my mind at ease" the beat change MAKES this song what it is, it's almost like that tension is ACTUALLY building up inside you and then when that change hits it ACTUALLY seems relieving. Crazy good composing here by her, to get that vibe, that is what music is all about.

I feel the same levels of excitement every time I watch this video; Dua is clearly the center of attention, and rightly so, of course, but I really love the collaborative vibe of the concert, how she brings in all the talent, and how they all perform together, and having fun while doing it. I love the song choices and I find her voice to be powerful but sweet to the ears, a unique and potent mix that puts me in a different space whenever I hear it. I love her white outfit against the orange set, the lighting, cinematography, editing, and background props. It was all carefully planned and well done; you could tell that she was surrounded by very competent people she could trust to make her work perfect for her audience. I love everything about this home concert! 10/10 for me! ❤
