Thanks for watching this video, in this opportunity we share with you our experience setting up dual WAN connections with omada routers.
We’ll also show you the options that you have for such connections, how many you can have and how important the USB port is in Omada Routers. This is a setup that in the past we also did with Unifi gateways and results were great too with the little limitation that the Network Application at that time only had the fail safe option and no load balancing was available.
Different from Unifi you may find a comparison between them with this short video that not only explains advantages of having multiple WANs, but also being able to configure other combinations for this setup and its benefits.
Thanks for watching our videos. Please subscribe and support us in this process.
Hardware seen in this video:
Omada Router ER605 : amzn.to/3ele2Mn
Omada Router ER7206 : amzn.to/3wQU6Ye
Omada Network controller: amzn.to/3ACLNjK 100 devices
Omada Network controller: amzn.to/3ACLNjK 500 devices
Optional devices not tested by us:
LTE router netgear: amzn.to/3RvIdiN Up to 1gbps
LTE router by Cudy: amzn.to/3xgb8zc

Thanks for sharing very informative videos. Do Unibuiti or tp-link ship routers which can be used branch office to head quartet setup such as cisco provided router to setup frame relay between two offices.

Hi thanks for your comments, I don't know if this is what you may need, but anyway here it is. Linking offices with TP Link Omada is as easy as it gets. Here some links to our examples: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o5qjjMJ6q7C5gHk.html and kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ormlo5Z11LrXhY0.html With the ER7206 being the most capable of what as of now they have to offer. There may be more powerful coming up: amzn.to/3SrMzYA

I have an Omada ER605 v2 with the USB port and as of 1/3/2024, it works fine as a tethered port to my Samsung S23 from T-Mobile.

I have tried my samsung s23 and not been able to get it to work. Curious how you set this up. I have my connection shared through ethernet with a cable.

Hello! This a late response but I have the Omada ER7206 and I have load balancing enabled. I'm a bit confused on the ratio. WAN 1 ~400Mbps is faster than WAN 2 ~200Mbps what should the ratio be? 1:2, 2:1? Is the first listed one the primary? If I update either they both change so I'm a bit confused by it.

Hi, well what I have perceived (and I might be wrong) is the weight in terms of importance to each connection so it will give the priority you specify to each. In your case you might want to give more importante to the one with higher bandwidth.

@@TechnologyMoments thx. Yeah I actually figured it out. Wan is the first one Wan2 is the second. Also, if you have failover enabled load balance is ignored. It still fails over if you just have load balance (although slower to do so) so it works for me.

Hi, i got two block of IP Adddreses from my ISP, /30 and /29 range. I know that one ip is peer conection to ISP and secondary that thes say is LAN are my publick IP addreses. Can i setup my router to workk like thar
@TechnologyMoments

Hi, it wouldn't serve any purpose as the idea of dual WAN is you have a backup connection in case your ISP (all addresses) fail.

I can combine the speed of my two different ISP with this router? Like one is PLDT and another is Converge?
@TechnologyMoments
@TechnologyMoments 7 ай бұрын
Not yet, at least in our tests... this load balancing refers to the fact that it assigns evenly the output way for each client.

Hello. Is it recommend to set to bridge mode both ISP router when when connecting to load balancer?
@TechnologyMoments
@TechnologyMoments 11 ай бұрын
Hi, It is not necessary, actually load balancing works even when receiving private dynamic IPs from your ISP

Great! Appreciate the quick response 🙂. But when both ISP router are not in bridge mode, will it not create double NAT issue? Considering on buying this hardware to maximize the dual ISP connection. Thanks in advance for your reply.

That's right you can downlink to as many switches you want cascading down from the LAN port.

Thanks a lot for the video I have a question... In the scenario: an Office with Omada router that have 2 connection, and you have a web server in your office (or other service) If one connection drop down, can the other connection answer for the office webserver request from outside ? Thanks again.
@TechnologyMoments

Yes it can be configured to be accessed from either one of the connections, I have not tested to be able to answer from both of them at the same time

I have to modify these settings during work, but I can't quite understand if this warning indicates the clients on my network will lose their internet connection: "Modification of WAN Ports will automatically delete the current configurations associated with the ports, and the gateway will reboot. The controller will be inaccessible until the gateway reboots". If yes, I'll have to come back in the weekend to perform these modifications.
@TechnologyMoments
@TechnologyMoments 11 ай бұрын
Basically it is warning you, that while it reboots your network clients will loose access, and that is important as it takes a couple minutes to reboot, and you never know if something might go wrong.... doing it at low traffic hours as you're planning is best.

@@TechnologyMoments glad I didn't do it during lunch, but stayed late till everyone was home. Everything was unstable for at least 30min after the reboot. WAN disconnected a couple times and the 5Ghz network wouldn't activate.

I just bought this omada ER605 v2, i have a question.. Is it normal when it's booting / restart takes about 5minutes ?? I tried to reach tplink customer services to ask about this booting time, but stuck on waiting, both on website and phonecall.. haven't connnected

Yes, Like I've said they are way to slow to boot up. It takes for us 3 minutes in all models we've tested.

Can you do this with the ER605v2 without using Omada?
@TechnologyMoments
@TechnologyMoments Жыл бұрын
Sure, and as a matterr of fact is our prefered method for VPN connections between Omada routers. Set them up in standalone way so routers don't have to wait for provisioning info. Eventhough controllers are a great alternative (amzn.to/3ZbVe4h) we found these site to site routers (we have mostly used ER605s amzn.to/3yKLu6f) to work better without the controller, as we may have shown in other videos.

Not right now. We've tested and still not possible, You can do that with the edge router from Ubiquiti: amzn.to/3UO2p2l Not so easy to configure as you have to use CLI but still very powerful

Not to worry, you can go up to 1 Gbps on each port. If it does not go as high there may be something wrong in the other equipment's port or even the cable.

All of these dual wan videos do the rookie thing by just unplugging a cable. That's not realistic, any cheap router can do a link failover. Even Asus. What is important is if there's actually no internet connection, you could have a working IP or even a dns relay trick the unit into thinking the connection is still valid. That's the problem with most of these "failovers" they simply just do not work that way or at least it's not as seamless as they make it. Then there's the whole failing back and not failing back prematurley etc. Anyone can unplug/plugin a port, it doesnt prove fail over works. Leave fiber/cable/vdsl modem connected, leave starlink modem connected...then unplug THEIR connection and tell me the tplink is just as amazing lol it's not

"Pulling the plug" serves as an illustrative way of saying internet is "down" That's why any decent system has a poling interval that serves as a trigger for transferring over to the other WAN. We all now these are not "top of the line" routers but do have this option and work pretty good. There are Mission Critical routers in which you'll not even notice that transfer. Anyway thanks for enriching our content.
